SAVE THE DATE Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Game. Saturday September 13, PACK AND A SNACK DEBUTS The First 6-Pack and A Snack House Party held on March 7, 2014, at the home of Jim & Sandy Schuster was a Success. There were 25 party-goers. The host & party-goers really liked the easy format just...show-up with snack to share and your own beverage. From the hosts view, there is very little to do. Just pick up your home before and run the dishwasher after. Every one brings their own drinks and a snack and takes everything home when they leave. Easy-Breezy!!! Another party is planned soon. Want to join this group? Please contact Lisa Kocent at LisaKocent.BPMCA@ gmail.com. You must be a paid member of the Civic Association to or a paid Social member to join RACE FOR JOE Dear runners and walkers, it is that time of year again! The 6th Annual Race for Joe is scheduled for Saturday, April 19 at 9:00am (Easter weekend). This event memorializes the February 6, 2008, sudden passing of Joe Guzzetti of an epileptic seizure. He was just 24 years old and a resident of our very own neighborhood. All proceeds will fund the Joe Guzzetti Memorial Scholarship which granted scholarships of $2,000 in 2013 to graduates of North Allegheny High School. Please sign up to run or walk at the event website, Tell all your friends... them, text them, tweet them, Facebook them, call them, whatever you do! And if you are not going to participant we can use volunteers (call Dan Lutz to volunteer) or you can plan to line the streets to show our community cares!! ANIMAL WASTE ORDINANCES & FINES Spring is here (despite the weather). It s time for a gentle reminder about cleaning up after your pets. Nothing is more annoying than finding "gifts" left on your property by the dogs and cats of your Brook Park neighbors. Animal owners are required by town ordinances to remove their pet's waste immediately from the property of another resident. Failure to do so could result in a fine of $100 for each occurrence. Failure to pay this fine could result in a 30-day imprisonment. If you see someone not cleaning up their pet's waste from your property, immediately contact your local police and
3 report the violation. Pet owners, please be responsible and pick up your pet's waste from your neighbor's property immediately. sale. A copy the protective covenants can be viewed and printed from the Brook Park website: YARD WASTE COLLECTION TO RESUME IN McCANDLESS Republic Services will resume collecting yard waste on Monday, March 10, Yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings, branches, tree limbs, plants and flowers with soil shaken off, shrubbery, and prunings. Tree limbs over four (4) inches in diameter and four (4) feet in length, soil, lumber, excrement, plastic or clay pots, and any synthetic material are unsuitable for collection as yard waste. Please remove all plants from plastic, clay or any other kind of container before placing into your yard waste cart. In lieu of or in addition to your green-top cart, you may also choose to use up to three paper composting bags as part of the weekly seasonal yard waste collection at no extra cost. Charges for more than three bags will apply to your bill. WHEN SELLING YOUR HOME IN BROOK PARK Please remember to provide your realtor and/or potential buyers with a copy of the protective covenants covering your Phase of Brook Park when selling your Brook Park home. Doing so will eliminate potential issues with the closing of your TOWN OF McCANDLESS REFUSE COLLECTION UPDATED CUSTOMER HANDBOOK The Town of McCandless will be ordering new customer refuse handbooks as a resource for all residents. The original handbooks were delivered with your cart at the outset of our new automated trash, recycling, and yard waste program. A copy of the handbook can be found at our web site at If you wish to have a paper copy, you are invited to pick one up at Town Hall (located at 9955 Grubbs Road) starting Monday, March 24, Changes include pricing for bulk items, contact information, e-waste information, and recycling resources. RESIDENT DIRECTORY NEW NEIGHBOR UPDATES Brook Park Manor directory updates for November 2012 through March 2014 are attached at the end of this newsletter. Updates include new neighbors only. If you fold the document on the line in the middle of the page and 3-hole punch it to match the holes in the directory, the page fits in there nicely without putting holes through the information.
