Grandparents, Mums and Dads, children and community members all enjoyed the big cosy fire and delicious food cooked by Nigel and Katrina and served beautifully by Katrina off the back of Nigel's ute. The children all had a fun time running around together, toasting marshmallows etc while the adults enjoyed good company and easy listening music. A great night for all concerned. 3 JULY BOOK CLUB REPORT. When editor Susan Ryeland is given the tattered manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has little idea it will change her life. She's worked with the revered crime writer for years and his detective, Atticus Pund, is renowned for solving crimes in the sleepy English villages of the 1950s. As Susan knows only too well, vintage crime sells handsomely. It's just a shame that it means dealing with an author like Alan Conway... But Conway's latest tale of murder at Pye Hall is not quite what it seems. Yes, there are dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects, but hidden in the pages of the manuscript there lies another story: a tale written between the very words on the page, telling of real-life jealousy, greed, ruthless ambition and murder. From Sunday Times bestseller Anthony Horowitz comes Magpie Murders, his deliciously dark take on the vintage crime novel, brought bang- up-todate with a fiendish modern twist. July s choice was Judy Majors so on Monday night seven of us made our way to her place on Pinnacle Road dodging roos. I think we spent the first half an hour catching up on what everyone had been doing since our last meeting. Then Marnie read the report from her Book Club which set us to discussing this again. We finally made our way to the current read. All but two very busy people had read the book. We all agreed that it was an excellent who dunn it. We loved the characters and the plot and felt it was very well done. We liked how it wove two stories together sort of running parallel. I personally really liked how when the heroine got hurt she didn t bounce back all robust and perfect again, she retained her injuries and was unable to maintain her position and had to change her life. Overall this book rated mostly 9 s and 10s. A great choice Judy. Thank you for a lovely night. Next month s choice is Brooke s and will be held at the usual date of August 14th at her house. Ongerup Golf Club gets $500 boost The golfing community in the Great Southern Region is celebrating following a $500 donation from the Crop Science division of Bayer and Primaries Ongerup Pty Ltd, to the Ongerup Golf Club through the igivelocal Community Support Program. Bayer representative, Glen Bergersen and Mick Creagh of Primaries, presented the cheque to grateful Tom Hart who was thrilled to receive the donation on behalf of the Golf Club.
