Conferment of CSI Lifetime Achievement Award on Major General (Retd) A Balasubramanian The Life-time Achievement Award of the Computer Society of India was presented to Major General (Retd) A Balasubrahmanian, for his services to CSI and his outstanding contribution for the introduction of computerization in India. The award was presented during the Inaugural Session of the Annual Convention of CSI held at Ahmedabad on December 1, Major General (Retd) A Balasubrahmanian is a Fellow Member of IETE and the member of the Governing Council IETE. He had a very long tenure with the DRDO and played a significant role in introducing Computerization in our country. IETE Chennai Centre takes pride in felicitating Major General (Retd) A Balasubrahmanian on his great achievement. Hearty congratulations, Sir! -Editor

Technology in Healthcare. The programme was conducted on 18 November 2011 by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, at the Founders Block seminar Hall of HIET.

Ms AL Vallikannu, Asst.Professor, ECE Department highlighted the significance of the seminar and introduced the speakers to the audience. Mr.

Er Shri G Selvam, Executive Committee Member IETE Chennai Centre delivered the welcome address. Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science IETE Students Forum Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, in association with IETE Chennai Centre, organized a Technical seminar on Technology in Healthcare. The programme was conducted on 18 November 2011 by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, at the Founders Block seminar Hall of HIET. The seminar was well attended The inaugural function began at am. Dr.G.Ravindran, Professor, ECE Department welcomed the gathering and delivered the presidential address. Ms AL Vallikannu, Asst.Professor, ECE Department highlighted the significance of the seminar and introduced the speakers to the audience. Mr.Manohar, Chief Manager, Siemens Ltd, Chennai, Guest Speaker of the function, for Session I delivered the key note address on Bio-Medical Instrumentation.During Session II Dr.M.Rama Subbha Reddy, HOD, Applied Mechanics as well as Bio Medical Engineering Division of the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennaidelivered a lecture on the principles of Bio-Signal processing and Medical Image processing.

4 -4- GANADIPATHY TULSI S JAIN ENGINEERING COLLEGE, VELLORE IETE STUDENTS FORUM Ganadipathy Tulsi s Jain Engineering College, Vellore in association with, IETE Chennai Centre conducted one day symposium esac "11", on 05 November 2011 at their College Campus. Sri V Chinna Pappiah, Hony Secretary of the IETE Chennai Centre, inaugurated the function. He also delivered a lecture on the topic Mobile Technology From 1G to 4G, which drew large enthusiasm. ISF AWARDS In order to promote competitive spirit among the ISFs, certain measures were initiated forthe ISFs under the jurisdiction of Chennai Centre. Activity reports from the ISFs were called for and assessed. Best ISF Awards were given to three Engineering Colleges in Chennai. Viz Sri Sairam Engneering College, Velammal College Of Engineering and Prathyusha Institute Of Technology and Management. Active ISF Awards were also presented to Arupadai Veedu Institute Of Technology Paiyanoor and Ganadipathy Tulsi s Jain Engineering College Vellore.ISF Coordinators of the above Colleges were also presented with mementos. Sri V.Chinna Pappiah Secretary proposed vote of thanks.

Dr Padmanaban,Principal Consultant,NexGtech Wireless Systems Pvt Ltd, Chennai conducted the workshop. Colleges in large number participated in the workshop. Dr Beulah Devamalar Director,PITAM and Dr N.Gunasekaran Principal, PITAM participated in the inaugural session.

6 IETE Foundation day celebration 29 November I E T E Foundation Day was celebrated on 29 TH November 2011 at Hotel Palmgrove Chennai. Smt Hema Gopal,Vice President,Global Head, Tata Consultancy Services was the Chief Guest and delivered a lecture on the theme Environmental Technologies : The Future of India. Sri Muruganandam, Chairman, IETE Chennai Centre read out the message from the President IETE New Delhi. Sixteen Veteran Members were honored and were presented with mentos.

7 -7- ORGANISATIONAL NEWS During the half year period from July 2011 to December 2011, Executive Committee met five times to plan, conduct and review the activities of IETE Chennai Centre. Consequent to the decision taken during the Students Day Celebration during February 2010, a new Computer Lab, having eight new systems with networking and broadband connectivity has been established in our Centre. We are sure this will by Students for getting Online Tutorials/Lectures Forecast.. IETE Chennai is planning to usher in the New Year 2012 with a Seminar and South Zone Meet at SRM Engineering College during the second half of January Details will be published soon. Yet another mega event will be the International workshop at Pratyusha Institute of Technology and Management, Chennai, during March As usual IETE Chennai centre Hall will be vibrant, with students attending tutorials, monthly meets and guest lectures and so on and so forth. At least those Corporate Members who are living in the vicinity of IETE Chennai Centre must not miss these events. We solicit their active participation in the Centre activities and guide the budding student generation to build a Technologically superior India of the future.
