1 New CEO Cystic Fibrosis Australia Ms Michelle Skinner It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce that the Board of Cystic Fibrosis Australia (CFA) has appointed me as the new CEO of CFA. I have accepted and commenced at my new position on 4 March 2014 and I bring to CFA an extensive National and International experience in the health, non-government and charity sectors. I am a passionate and visionary leader with a strong commitment to best practice and innovation. I have previously worked at the highest level of organisations in both Australia and the United Kingdom, including roles as CEO of Transition Community Care, The Winnicott Foundation and North Sydney Community Services. I find working in the not-for-profit sector immensely rewarding and was strongly attracted to the role of CEO for CFA because of its connections in advocacy, health, research, quality improvement and community engagement. I look forward to meeting you on the Great Escape and working with the CFA team as we continue to strive to achieve our vision of Lives Unaffected by Cystic Fibrosis. 2 TRACK NOTES Cabins on the Spirit of Tasmania are all equipped for comfortable relaxed sailing. Ocean Recliners are available for the budget-conscious and offer reclining chairs in a private lounge. Information can be found at: Crossing from Melbourne to Devonport, we will have dinner on board but please note - Breakfast will be served at Devonport, catering by Rotary. An IMPORTANT NOTE: you cannot take on the ferry across to Tassie * any form of fruit or vegetable, so either eat or bin it before getting on the boat. * your spare fuel Jerry Can needs to be empty, you will not need to use your jerry can between Shepparton and Melbourne as there are ample servo s to get fuel, just keep your tank topped up and it will not be a problem. Once you are in Tassie, I suggest you fill the jerry up as there are some areas where fuel supply is limited by the number of servo s. RED, RED, RED during the GE 2014 there will be a number theme nights planned and you, more detail on this in Newsletters leading up to the event. But there is one that is special to Cystic Fibrosis, which was started last year & that is to: wear RED or something RED to the start line. RED is CF s logo colour and it helps in forming a reminder of 65 ROSES DAY and other activities that CFA are involved with outside of the Great Escape. Don t forget NSW and Vic School Holidays start the day after we finish in Hobart, so that s an excuse to bring the family down to have a look over this beautiful state. I hope all the fundraising and car maintenance is going to plan, Nicole Kidman was in Tow-Balls home town we are hoping he secured something interesting for the Auction! This course is different to previous Great Escapes, due to the various restrictions within Tasmania on Forest and National Park tracks. Unfortunately this cuts us out of some great roads, but on the advise of a lot of locals we will head into some great back country areas and have time to look around and get a real feel for the beauty and the difference of Tasmania, which I am sure you will appreciate. There is a bit for everyone in Tassie, particularly seafood. I have been able to get the 3 main Salmon suppliers in Strahan to donate fresh salmon for lunch, the ladies from the Strahan Golf Club will prepare and serve the Fish of the Day. For the Golfing Nuts there are a number of surprises. In Bridport we have planned a 2 hour fun event for those who think they can drive or you can drive about 6kms and find 2 Golf Courses which are rated world class. Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links is Number 11 in the World right next to it is The Lost Farm Golf Links it is number 23 in the World. If you have time go and have a look in the Club House at the Lost Farm, the view is un-believable. These 2 course are in a very small but lovely village on the North Coast of Tassie called Bridport with a population of a couple of thousand people. Other Golfing information google Ratho Farm (we do not drive through here), but is reported as being the first Golf Course in Australia. It was developed on a farm and had square Greens. The Greens were fenced to keep the stock off the Greens. This is just info for you as I m a Tenis player not a golfer. We stay in some historic places one of those is Terraleah, accommodation in this old hydro town is in the homes used by the staff while building the dams etc. These houses have been totally refurbished and are 3 bedroom cottages, so I suggest a number of rally teams share the house/houses, you can even roll out your swag on the floor. So team up it will reduce your cost. For dinner that evening we will be eating in the Great Hall, which was the Town Hall of the village, a beautifully restored building. Other accommodation tips: At Orford the East Coast Central Motel has a variety of accommodation so it should suit everyone, and the good thing is that is we will be having dinner and breakfast here. St Marys is a very small inland village and normal accommodation is limited, no motel, just an old pub, a number of B&B s and a very good Exhibition Hall in the Sportsground that can be used for

3 swags etc, there are great toilet and shower facilities right next door. I am trying to get some billeting homes if possible. The next morning we are going to leave town before breakfast and do something different for brekkie. Tullah is another old hydro village, where the staff quarters have been turned into a Tassie resort which sits on the foreshores of the lake, a great fishing spot. Big roaring fire places will ensure we enjoy each evening. Talking of roaring during my survey s setting out the course I have seen 2 Tassie Devils, this is quite rare the locals tell me, but it was only a quick view as they get off the road quickly. Any way remember; Road Skill not Road Kill. When you are reading this Newsletter, I ll be back in Tassie doing about 2 day's work, as when I was down there earlier this year doing the West Coast Adventure Road, the road was closed due to an avalanche which had taken the road out, the Dept advised that it would be Easter before it would be re- opened. This road is one of the adventure roads of the world so we could not go to Tassie without going on this road, where we cross the Pieman River in the Fatman Ferry, yes another ferry, this time its 2 cars at a time, but it s also a lunch stop. So all things are rolling well with me, the numbers are good and the course looks very exciting, so I ll keep filling you in on other important points for the 2014 CF Great Escape in the coming Newsletters. Teresa is doing another course in Melbourne. She has to do a Community Project. The project she has taken on is for the Royal Children s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House. They are screaming out for goods and services such as vouchers for footy games, zoo, fuel and things like paper, colour pencils, games, books, also household utensils and things like pillows, mattress protectors, toasters, elec. Appliances. Anyway Teresa's my project and commitment is to fill a 20ft shipping container by the end of August. She started by having to tell at least 10 people about this who in turn would then tell another 10 and so on. I reckon I have now told over 100 people and now I have told you too. 4 Get those theme night costumes out of the closet as we have 5 theme nights on this rally. & remember RED DAY at the rally start. Welcome Dinner Masquerade & Mardi Gras. This will be the brightest and most colourful theme The Great Escape has ever seen. We even have a couple of Mardi Gras cows on loan for the night. If cows can get into the spirit and dress up then all our Rallyatives can have a lot of fun. AHOY! Some extra accommodation info: Smithton Accommodation Our recommendations would be to try the caravan parks as you have been and I can also suggest the Riverbend Youth Centre which is about 5km down the road from us towards Edith Creek. Riverbend offers backpacker and budget accommodation as well as camping.
