Auckland provides a diverse, urban environment with a mild, temperate climate where everyone lives within half an hour of beautiful beaches, hiking trails and beautiful islands. Aucklanders enjoy a good work-life balance and are known for their friendly nature. Auckland has a cosmopolitan feel with a wide range of restaurants and eateries and students can find shops and cafes within walking distance of the University.

7 Academy (ELA) The Academy (ELA) is wholly owned by the University of Auckland and is located on the University s city campus in downtown Auckland. The ELA provides a wide range of high quality language programmes for international students. The courses offered by the ELA are supported by the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Applied Studies and Linguistics in the University of Auckland. Programmes include direct entry pathway programmes for students who are interested in pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Auckland as well as specialist language teacher training courses and general courses. The ELA is an accredited IELTS test centre, Cambridge TKT and CELTA training centre. All of the staff are highly qualified and experienced ESOL teachers and the majority possess postgraduate qualifications in TESOL or Applied Linguistics. Each year students from over 30 different nationalities are welcomed and include both individual students and groups of students coming from a partner university on a group arrangement Cultural Understanding Cultural Understanding lessons will focus on learning about New Zealand culture, history, education and lifestyle. Classes will further enhance students ability to communicate in with increased confidence and competence, with particular emphasis on pronunciation and use of the language. The course will allow students to interact in the community through meeting University of Auckland students and other New Zealanders. Students will also learn and practice key skills in preparing and presenting power point presentations. The course will culminate in students giving a presentation in which reflects on the cultural differences between their home country and New Zealand.
8 Included activities City Coach Tour Tuesday 25 th July (included activity) Travel through the city centre, past iconic Karangahape Road and the stylish suburb of Ponsonby, and over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, enjoying views of the Hauraki Gulf and city skyline. Visit the Viaduct Harbour, home to America's Cup racing for many years, and the central city's main road Queen Street, before continuing to the Auckland Domain. Developed around an extinct volcano, the Domain features 75 hectares of open spaces, tropical gardens, duck ponds and public art, and is home to the Auckland War Memorial Museum. The tour continues to historic Parnell Village, where you can explore this boutique shopping area during an afternoon tea stop. Next, travel the stunning waterfront route of Tamaki Drive to Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park, above Mission Bay. Named after one of New Zealand's greatest and most popular Prime Ministers, the park, with its formal gardens and tranquil atmosphere, offers a panoramic outlook over the picturesque Eastern Bays, Auckland city and the Waitemata Harbour. Auckland Museum Wednesday 26 th July (included activity) Auckland War Memorial Museum is New Zealand's first Museum. The Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. The Museum is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealand's top three heritage libraries. arts and pictorial collections. 9 Optional activities Honey Centre and Sheep World Travel by coach to the North. Go to Sheep World to hold the new lambs and see their parents perform in a show. Sheep World provides a unique insight into how we farm our sheep in New Zealand, then harvest and use their wool. Stop at the Honey Centre on the way home to sample a wide variety of New Zealand honey. An ELA chaperone and lunch are provided.
