ISVHLD has a long tradition of 43 years. Initially, it focused on the discovery of the hepatitis viruses, then on the development of diagnostic procedures and vaccines as well as on understanding the pathophysiology. Today, therapies have become the focus of research and in 2015 many of the new direct antiviral agents (DAAs) against hepatitis C will be approved. Public Health becomes increasingly important. Identification of patients in need of therapy is a major challenge to make these new therapies accessible to all parts of the world. Furthermore, we still need to develop better and finite therapies for hepatitis B and need to address many more burning issues of global relevance like hepatitis D and E. This symposium is organized every three years moving around the continents. Basic scientists and clinicians will discuss the most recent advances to combat this very important global health burden caused by all hepatitis viruses. For the first time, this symposium takes place in Germany s capital Berlin. The 15 th ISVHLD will be held together with the 12 th Annual Meeting of the German national network of competence on viral hepatitis (Hep-Net) and the 1 st International Symposium of the Hepatitis Section of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF). It is our vision and ambition to make it a true Global Viral Hepatitis Summit. At least one author (the first or the presenting author) is therefore kindly asked to register for the symposium. The abstract will otherwise not be reviewed and excluded by the scientific committee. Cancellation Policy In case of cancellation of participation until March 26, 2015 registration fees will be refunded deducting a handling fee of 32 per person. The registration is nonrefundable after that date. Name changes will be charged with 16 per registration. In case of any special requests for the processing of your invoice, kindly let us know when returning your registration form. For the rewriting of invoices 16 will be charged. All extras have to be paid directly at the hotel upon check-out. The city of Berlin has introduced a city tax. Business travellers are exempt from the city tax. They do, however, have to be able to prove the business purpose of their trip. This can be verified by a bill that is paid by or issued to the employer, or a letter from the company. Time Germany operates on Central European Time (CET), which is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and 6 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the United States. Official times like shop hours or train schedules are usually indicated by the 24-hour clock, means 7:30 pm is 19:30. Money The Euro is the official currency in Germany. You can change money at banks, post offices and currency exchanges in airports or train stations. Classic credit cards, such as American Express, Master Card, Diners Club or VISA are rarely used, but accepted by major hotels, petrol stations or large shops. Climate Germany belongs to the temperate zone, which requires a wardrobe as flexible as possible. In summer, the thermometer reaches temperatures about 25 C/77F, but deviations are not unusual. The humidity level is mostly high. From Schönefeld Airport take the 171 bus line until you reach "Sonnenallee". It takes about 40 minutes by bus and about 15 minutes by car to reach the Estrel Berlin. Road Travel Whether you are approaching the venue on motorway A100 or A113, use exit 26, Grenzallee and turn right The Estrel Berlin Hotel & Convention Center s convenient location makes it easy to reach by car and public transport. The nearest slip road to the highway is only 1.5 km, and Schönefeld Airport (SXF) only 13 km away. The Sonnenallee S-Bahn commuter train station can be reached by foot in only three minutes, and a bus stop and taxi rank are located right in front of the hotel. at the traffic light onto the street called Grenzallee. Continue on Grenzallee for two more traffic lights, turning left at the second one onto the street called Sonnenallee and proceed for another half a kilometer where you will find the Estrel Berlin located on the right side of the street.
