2 Announcement: AABP Develops VCPR Guidelines The American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) has developed guidelines for its members on the Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). The VCPR is an important factor between veterinarians and their beef and dairy clients in regard to pharmaceutical use, protocols, residue avoidance and more. Find the VCPR Guidelines at AABP s newly revised Practical Euthanasia of Cattle is also available at Other AABP task forces are also working on guidelines for veterinarians to help them make decisions with their beef and dairy clients in the areas of proper drug use, castration and dehorning, lameness and more. Those guidelines will be available on the AABP website at as they become available. International Congresses WBC2014 REPORT The WBC2014 Congress will be held from 27 th 31 st July next year and preparations are really on the move, and I hope that you will visit the website as soon as possible to keep up to date with what we have been progressing for you to participate and enjoy next year in Cairns. The scientific committee have collated all of the proposals and have put together keynote speakers from all parts of the world. We are already receiving abstracts in support of the streams of the congress and complimenting the keynote speakers. We would encourage you to consider submitting your abstract and help showcase the Buiatric achievements from your country and association. The social committee has a diverse range of activities for you. They have already decided on the overseas terminal in Cairns in which to hold the Gala dinner and have an exciting destination for both the local and overseas vets for the cultural evening. The committee is working with the Tablelands Veterinary Services to put together the pre and post conference workshops to be held in the Atherton Tablelands just behind Cairns. The committee has also been busy with the pre and post conference agricultural visits and tours, while the accompanying persons program can now be seen on the website. Our PCO, Kerry Wise from DCI has block booked accommodation in Cairns so that you stay where it best suits you. You will be pleased to know that all of it is within walking distance of the 2

3 convention centre. It is difficult to beat walking a few minutes in the warm balmy atmosphere of a tropical paradise to an international congress filled with the latest veterinary information. Kerry has worked very hard to get the best rates and has been in constant contact with the Cairns Convention Centre to make this the very best congress that Cairns has ever seen. Anne Cover is the Australian Cattle Veterinary (ACV) executive officer and has been busy in all areas of the congress but especially in relation to sponsorship. The ACV has an excellent relationship with all of the pharmaceutical companies, built up over many years. We can only again thank our sponsors for their generous support. We have also initiated sponsored vet visits from overseas vets into our local vet practices as a way of experiencing how we operate in Australia. You may be interested in this host/exchange program and Rob as reported that 40+ vets from Australia have already registered their interest and we hope that you consider this opportunity to visit an Australian vet practice. Bob Rheinberger Vice-President of the WAB and Chair of the local organising committee Warsaw, Poland, between May 26 to 29, 2014 In the late spring 2014 Warsaw, the capital city of Poland, will witness the XIV Middle European Buiatrics Congress. The congress is co-organized by the Polish Association for Buiatrics and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences-SGGW. The opening will take place on May 26 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and for next three days the participants will 3

4 be the guests of the Warsaw Airport Hotel Gromada. Following scientific topics regarding ruminants health will be included: clinical pathology of infectious and non-infectious diseases, food hygiene and public health, herd health and economics, infectious diseases and immunology, internal medicine, neonatology, nutrition and metabolic diseases, parasitology, pharmacology, physiology, reproduction and udder health, small ruminant diseases, surgery and lameness and wild ruminants. Everyone concerned with ruminant health problems may feel welcome to enroll and submit a scientific paper. The congress is a great chance for both practitioners and scientists interested in ruminant diseases to deepen their understanding of the most up-to-date issues and share their experiences with colleagues from around the world. 9 NEWS FROM CHILE 1) XI Chilean Buiatrics Congress The XI National Buiatrics Congress was held in Osorno, Chile from November 21 to More than 200 delegates participated and exchanged knowledge and experiences in the buiatrics field with practical results included in domestic and foreign research in recent times. The scientific program was organized around four symposia and conferences on major issues of Buiatrics, 23 sessions with keynote lectures were presented by 17 national and 4 overseas speakers from USA, Italy and Argentina. For oral presentation were selected some of the scientific research that are regularly reported as Poster. Also was awarded the best poster "Mycoplasma Mastitis in Chilean dairy herds" of the researchers F. Ulloa, A. Mella, J. P. Soto and J. Kruze, Institute of Biochemistry and Microbiology, Faculty of Sciences, Universidad Austral de Chile. 2) Regular Meeting of the Chilean Buiatrics Society During this Congress the XI Ordinary General Assembly of the Chilean Buiatrics Society chaired by Dr Paul Köpfer Schöbitz took place and nine members of the board were selected for the upcoming The respective charges will be distributed during a future meeting. 3) Collaboration Agreement with the Peruvian Society Buiatrics During the opening ceremony an agreement between the Peruvian and Chilean Buiatrics Societies was signed represented by Dr Paul Köpfer Schöbitz President of the Chilean Buiatrics Society and Dr Jorge del Campo Santa Cruz President of the Peruvian Buiatrics Society. This agreement will allow both partners to participate in the conference without registration fees, accommodation and meals for two delegates during each Congress. 9
