1 ISSUE: SEPTEMBER 2017 COORDINATOR S REPORT Welcome to September, team. Despite the touch of ice still coating our windscreens, it s officially SPRING! You ve got to love the collective cheer which vibrates around our lovely State on the first day of this month. So, there s more than just the longer days to celebrate here at the Club. We can finally reveal our huge news; in 2018 New Horizons, will be spreading our wings to Southern Tasmania! Our organisation is overwhelmed to have been chosen as the Tasmanian recipient of a $150,000 Commonwealth Bank Community Grant, for the specific purpose of setting up a satellite NHC programme in Hobart and surrounds. The funds (which will be paid over three years) will set the foundations for a new era in state-wide sport and rec opportunities for people with disability. We will reveal more details about the grant and plans over the coming months, but we re so excited that Southern Tasmanians will now have access to the New Horizons pathways to sporting representation, as well as our wonderful, supportive community. Thanks so very much to our new partners, CBA. Our crew can t wait to get to work, making this longheld dream a reality! Now, on another happy note, we re thrilled to report that Boss, Belinda Kitto, will be returning to work from her maternity leave in October. The truth about Belinda s leave is that she has always been accessible to myself and Vanessa, and we both extend our heartfelt thanks for her continuous support of New Horizons while caring for little Floss. Cheers to Spring and the impending cricket and tennis season (not to mention getting back in the outdoor pool!). This month s applicants are Aaron Edwards, Megan Lockett, Mathew Semmens, Mack Semmens-Blake & family, Hayley David & family. If any member having just cause why any of the above-mentioned applicants should not be inducted into the club, they must advise the Public Officer (Belinda Kitto) or Secretary (Olwyn Nilon) in writing no later than FRIDAY 15/9/17. Mail can be directed to the club, PO BOX 49 Mowbray 7248 or dropped in. Without any objections, these members will be inducted into the club and advised accordingly.

3 PICTURE US ALL AN INVITATION Interested members are invited to attend the opening of the Picture Us All photographic portrait prize and exhibition. Come along, check out the incredible portraits of your friends and enjoy a lovely social evening! If you haven t been out to the Clubhouse in the last few weeks, you won t have encountered our magnificent new onsite sculpture; a cluster of 14 yellow poles, each handdecorated with symbols representing New Horizons members, activities and values. The sculpture (a community art project) was 7 months in the making, and created by 26 local artists. This place-making work will not only be enjoyed by us, but the whole Northern suburbs community; please feel free to wander around the poles, touch and enjoy next time you visit the Club.

4 TASSIE AFL INCLUSION TEAM CAPTAINS REPORT Well what a massive week we had up on the Gold Coast for the 2017 AFL inclusion carnival. The weather up there was so nice it was 23 most off the week! On our first day, we played in a Lightning carnival which we played 7 games for the day. We recorded our very first win ever against Northern Territory by 24 pts and in the end, we qualified for the pool B Group. We then played one game a day and we had 4 games in pool B Group. We played some fantastic football to beat Northern Territory again in a night game on Wednesday night winning by 34 pts. On Thursday, we played South Australia, we lost to them by 11 pts and the boys played really well. Friday was our best game we played Western Australia. We had to beat them by more than 15 pts which we did and ended up winning by 21 pts. This was a great result because this put us into the pool B Grand Final against South Australia. It was a great achievement by all the boys to make a Grand final but unfortunately, we lost by 4pts. What a great game of football, congratulations to South Australia who won pool B Grand final and Vic Metro who won the pool A Grand Final. To all the boys you guys played your hearts out and I'm so proud of all of you guys! You represented the state proudly. Congratulations to Dylan Pace and Vincent Hall who made the all Australian team for I would like to say a massive thank you to Andrew McCarthy (coach) Angus Kidd (assisting coach), Lorna Wilson (team Manager) for all the wonderful help and support they provided us! Without you guys the trip would not happen so thank you. Thanks also to Ness who organised the whole trip. I know how tough it is organising teams so thank you Ness Wyllie! Thank you for all the support from parents, members and public is was great to have so much support for the boys. I am now signing off; thanks again everyone! Dingo

5 FOOTY MARGIN WEEKLY WINNERS RD 22: Ken Robertson RD 23: n/a MEET OUR NEW BOARD MEMBER, PHIL MOIR I have resided in Launceston the majority of my life being educated at Kings Meadows High School and Launceston Technical College. I worked in the private sector for the past 40 years, starting my employment as an apprentice carpenter and concluding in September 2016 in a Senior Management role in the manufacturing industry. During that period, I have remained a hands on practical person which I hope to be able to continue in my role as board member at NHC. I am father to two daughters and a grandfather of two grandchildren all of who I am immensely proud of. My sporting interests have been in football for 16 years playing at senior level with City South, Deloraine and South Melbourne football clubs. I have a genuine interest in all sport & outdoor activities but in more recent times golf, swimming and walking have been my interests of choice. I have developed a passion over recent years to be involved in not for profit organisations with the aim of giving back to the community in which I have lived. By joining the NHC as a Board Member I hope to be able to contribute in a positive manner in the best interests of the members and look forward to meeting everyone over the journey.
