Through the XCPPNQ, Xstrata s copper and zinc businesses have formed partnerships with North Queensland charities, community groups and government departments that make a real difference to the way we live in rural and regional North Queensland. In 2010 XCPPNQ entered its sixth year of operation and continued to deliver results through partnerships in Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Townsville and Bowen, where many of our employees and their families live and work. Our partnerships are delivering results in the areas of health, education, social and community development, enterprise and job creation, the environment and arts and culture. As our partnerships draw to a close, we take this opportunity to congratulate our outgoing partners on the successful outcomes they achieved under the partnership program, and to review the highlights of their achievements.

MICRRH: SimMan and SimBaby medical mannequins The Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health (MICRRH) aims to develop a centre of excellence in rural and remote health through multi-disciplinary education and training research. Xstrata partnered with the Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health in 2005 to provide local and regional health professionals with training in the diagnosis and implementation of advanced emergency medical procedures. The partnership has enabled MICRRH to purchase SimMan and SimBaby, computer controlled simulated medical mannequins, as well as other critical equipment such as an intubating scope for the operating theatre and an EZIO (intraosseous drill) for the Mount Isa Hospital Emergency Department to support the implementation of an effective training curriculum. Since the partnership began, funding from Xstrata has assisted in providing this critical training to over one thousand health professionals in the region. The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) joined this program in March 2008, enabling training to be extended to health professionals in outlying communities. Queensland Health: Mount Isa Diabetes Clinic Diabetes is a serious chronic health problem affecting 7% of Australians and approximately 24% of Indigenous Australians. As almost a quarter of Mount Isa Health Service District s population is indigenous, access to local diabetes management service is of great importance. Xstrata partnered with Queensland Health in 2005 to provide consistent, modern diabetes management for Mount Isa and surrounding communities through the Mount Isa Diabetes Clinic. The clinic targets prevention, early intervention, treatment and self-management of diabetes while also providing training for health workers and community education on living with and preventing diabetes. Since the partnership began the Mount Isa Diabetes Clinic has provided over 6,000 free consultations to local patients. The clinic also conducts regular outreach visits to Mornington Island, Doomadgee and Normanton servicing on average 270 clients per community. Laura Johnson Home: Equipment Upgrades The Laura Johnson home is the only aged care facility servicing the Mount Isa Region and provides critical services aimed at assisting its clientele to maintain their independence. Xstrata partnered with the Laura Johnson Home to upgrade existing equipment and furniture, and to undertake a community survey and feasibility study into the Home s future. The funding has also enabled the Home to upgrade their fire safety system resulting in a saving of over $15,000 in unnecessary callout fees, purchase equipment such as new tilt chairs and a shower trolley for residents, and undertake much needed bathroom renovations. North West Wildlife Carer s Group: Native Animal and Wildlife Care Program Funding provided to the North West Wildlife Carer s Group has enabled them to provide a free community service to rescue and rehabilitate injured native wildlife in the Mount Isa region. Since the partnership commenced over 400 native animals have been rehabilitated and returned to their native environment. Through regular visits to schools and community groups, the North West Carers Group also educates the broader community about the importance of native animals in our ecosystem. 2 Xstrata Community Partnership Program North Queensland

In 2008 the school enhanced its percussion section with two new xylophones, some snare drums, an electric drum kit and timpani. In 2009 it purchased a new drum kit, saxophone and euphonium and in 2010 the school purchased a bass guitar, music stands and a PA system. The school has around 30 band members and all of these students have enjoyed having access to instruments and equipment purchased through the program. Cloncurry Multi-Purpose Health Service: Aged care and ward improvements Cloncurry Multi-Purpose Health Service (MPHS) is one of Cloncurry s major health service providers and it works in conjunction with other providers to deliver a range of services within the Cloncurry community. It has also constructed a colourful castle-like play space, an undercover gazebo area, a new shed for storing play equipment and a stage platform in the outdoor playground area. The purchase of educational resources and equipment has replaced outdated learning equipment in order to comply with mandatory criteria and guidelines expected of Early Childhood Centres. They aim to improve the lives of individual members and to assist in the development of local communities. Following feedback from the recent 2009 Community Attitude Survey undertaken by Xstrata, which highlighted community concerns about a lack of activities available for Cloncurry s youth, Xstrata partnered with the Cloncurry PCYC to support the club s Sergeant position and to help with the provision of club activities. With Xstrata s funding the PCYC has developed its boxing and Youth Management Team programs with its members participating in various competitions and self-development activities over the past three years. The club has purchased a new slushie machine for use as a fundraising asset and it purchased a jumping castle during 2010 as an additional source of revenue. The club has more than 250 members and is a popular gathering place for local youth in Cloncurry.
