08:30 09:00 09:10 Registration and Refreshments WELCOME & OPENING REMARKS KEYNOTE ADDRESS Sir Christopher Coville, Chairman, British Helicopter Association SESSION ONE: AUTOMATION IN AN ONSHORE ENVIRONMENT- MIND THE GAP Mind the Gap will first summarise the nature of the problems to be addressed; namely the difficulty of matching strict SOPs in an unstructured environment, and also the matching the design philosophy of the OEM to the techniques used by the pilots. The sessions will move the audience progressively through the description of the problems, the explanation of the challenges, and finally some guidance on finding the solutions through EBT. Session Chair: Patrick Lacey, Director, Royal Travel 09:30 10:00 10:30 11:00 11:30 1) WHAT IS THE GAP AND HOW BIG IS IT? In this presentation the speaker will use real life examples from recent incident reports and operational conditions to highlight the nature of the challenges with regards to writing new SOPs, and revising training methods and priorities. Speaker: Dr Simon Mitchell, Visiting Fellow Cranfield University and Accountable Manager, Starspeed Ltd 2) RECOGNISING THE OPERATIONAL CONTEXT The speaker will use his experience of introducing the Apache into service with the British Army and his extensive Human Factors knowledge to guide the audience through the potential pitfalls of allowing a Practical Drift to develop between planned procedures and actual procedures. Speaker: Peter McCarthy, Lecturer, Human Factors and Accident Investigation, Cranfield University 3) UNDERSTANDING THE DESIGN PHILOSOPHY Dan Martin, an experienced military and EMS helicopter pilot who now conducts human factors research for various organisations that have design programs for automation, will take the audience through some of the ways the designers approach the philosophy of Human-Computer Interaction, and how this may influence changes to operator behaviour. Speaker: Dan Martin, Strategy, Risk Managment and Operations Consultant to The Children s Ambulance, AvMax Ltd 4) EYE TRACKING TRIALS MONITORING How Phase 1 of the eye-tracking trial has provided an insight into current monitoring practices - for the PH and PM - posing the question: do practices and procedures need to be modified to address the difference between

reality and expectation? Will Phase 2 of the project, with a different cockpit design, provide insight into the efficacy of current cockpit layouts and displays. Speaker: Tim Rolfe, Director, Aviation Safety, Bristow Helicopters 12:00 12:30 13:00 5) EVIDENCE BASED TRAINING The speaker will provide a report on progress being made in the area of Evidence Based Training, and how it will mitigate many of the challenges posed during the introduction and evolution of automation in helicopter operations. Speaker: Richard Carvell-Shepherd, Mission Critical Services Manager, Babcock International Networking Lunch SESSION TWO: INTEROPERABILITY SHARING THE LOWER-LEVEL AIRSPACE How to meet the challenge of exponentially increasing traffic in the lower-level airspace with fixed dimensions. How interoperability rather than segregation might provide the key. 14:00 14:30 15:00 15: ) AN INTRODUCTION TO SESAR - POTENTIAL IN THE FUTURE AIRSPACE Speaker: Robin Garrity, Air Traffic Management Expert, SESAR 7) HOW SITUATIONAL AWARENESS IS ACHIEVED - ELECTRONIC VISABILITY THROUGH ADS-B (EVA) How ADS-B has enabled the development of airborne surveillance and the process and display of the air situation picture to the pilot. A low-cost ADS-B solution for GA. Speaker: Richard Hayward, Research Engineer, NATS 8) INTEGRATED UNMANNED/MANNED AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS Speakers: Tony Duthie, Head of Market Development, Leonardo Helicopters & Andrew Chadwick, Business Manager, Frazer-Nash Consultancy 9) INTEROPERABILITY VISION 2025 How interoperability between drones, and drones and aircraft, in the lower airspace, might look in Speakers: Nick Rodgers, CRTO, Sky-Futures

16:30 17:00 17:30 18:00 10) CONFLICT DETECTION AND RESOLUTION (CD&R) Conflict detection and resolution how airborne self-separation can be safely achieved in an ever-congested airspace. Speakers: Jaap Groeneweg, Flight Simulation Expert, NLR CLOSING REMARKS URBAN AIR MOBILITY BY AIRBUS, AN INNOVATION CHALLENGE Rush-hour traffic is unbearable for many commuters today and the problem is growing. By 2030, 60% of the world s population will live in cities, which is 10% more than today. To address this rising concern, Airbus is harnessing its experience to make the dream of all commuters and travellers come true one day: to fly over traffic jams at the push of a button. Speaker: Jean-Brice Dumont, EVP Engineering, Airbus Helicopters

DAY TWO - THURSDAY 6 JULY :30 09:00 Registration and Refreshments WELCOME & OPENING REMARKS SESSION THREE: OPERATIONS IN DVE LOW-LEVEL IFR, PINS AND APV/LPV This session will provide examples of making use of, and modifying, current standards to remove gaps in operation. 09:10 09:30 10:00 10:30 11:00 11:30 11) INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY - PERFORMANCE BASED NAVIGATION Leveraging Performance Based Navigation and Required Navigation Performance to make economic use of an expensive resource in a degraded visual environment both in controlled and uncontrolled airspace. Experiences from the Performance Based Navigation Rotorcraft Operations under Demonstration (PROuD) trials and continuing developments. Speaker: Mark Prior, Technical Director, M Prior Consulting LTD 12) THE ITALIAN EXPERIENCE HELICOPTER PBN PROCEDURES How PBN has moved parts of Italy towards an integrated system. Speaker: Paolo Mezzacapo, Head of the Airspace Design Services, Enav 13) SWISS EXPERIENCES WITH PROuD - FLIGHT IN THE ALPINE VALLEYS How PBN is being used to open the valleys to operations in DVE; how, by modifying current standards, the ever-pressing dangers of weather and terrain can be avoided by more accurate navigation based on GNSS and advanced instrument flight proceedures. Speaker: Heinz Wipf, Senior Member IEEE, Air Nav Consulting and Heinz Leibundgut, Flight Operation Manager, REGA 14) NORWEGIAN EXPERIENCES WITH PROuD - ACHIEVING COUNTRY-WIDE COVERAGE How PBN is being used in a country-wide system for improving operations in DVE. Speaker: Lars Amdal, Project Manager, NorskLuftAmbulanse 15) FLEXAP - ANYWHERE, ANYTIME How a set of experiments were performed on the NLR rotorcraft simulator to evaluate a flexible approach module (FLEXAP) designed to allow aircraft to approach airports with less capable ground-based approach aids or remote sites with no approach aids. Speaker: Jaap Groeneweg, Flight Simulation Expert, NLR

DAY TWO - THURSDAY 6 JULY :00 12:30 Networking Lunch SESSION FOUR: THE HELICOPTER AS AN INTELLIGENT AGENT This session with show how, in a rich electronic environment, pressures on crew members are being reduced, even though the data that must be processed by the aircraft is increasing exponentially. 13:30 14:00 14:30 15:00 15:30 16:00 16:30 17) Future Helicopter Scenarios Speaker: Isabel del Pozo de Poza, Team Leader, Airbus Helicopters 16) Avionics Supporting Operations in Challenging Environments Speaker: Alain Ducollet, Airbus Helicopters 18) Presentation - Leonardo Helicopter Division Speaker: Simeon Wincott, Principal Engineer - Avionic System, Leonardo Helicopter Division 19) Presentation - Leonardo Helicopter Division Speaker: Davide Ferraro, FMS and GNSS Avionic System Engineer, Leonardo Helicopter Division CLOSING REMARKS
