2 SEE AFRICA through the eyes of Ashesi October 7 15, 2017 Get an insider s view of Africa through Ashesi s Annual Trip to Ghana. Over this 9-day journey, participants will experience Ashesi s campus in Berekuso, as well as the capital city of Accra and coastal Ghana. By connecting with our students and alumni, you ll see what makes the Ashesi Experience so special. On campus, pair up with students to attend class and learn about upcoming initiatives from university leadership. Then, visit graduate workplaces to see our core values of ethical leadership and innovative entrepreneurship in action. Of course, no trip to Ghana is complete without exploring Accra, Elmina and Cape Coast we ll traverse a rainforest, visit a historic slave fort, stroll through museums and art galleries, and relax on the beach. This trip is for anyone who wants to see beyond the tourism and news headlines, to the promise of today s Ghana and the bright future for Africa that Ashesi students and alumni are working to create. 4 Travel with a friendly group Trip participants often work in education, technology, finance or international affairs. For many, this is their first trip to Africa. SAMPLE DAY ITINERARY 8-9am: Breakfast at hotel. 10-1pm: Day in the life of a student Attend class and grab lunch with an Ashesi student. Kakum National Park Traverse the 1,150-foot canopy walkway, 130 feet above the tropical rainforest one of only two such walkways in Africa. 1-2:30pm: Ashesi leadership session Join university leadership to learn about Ashesi s current state of affairs and upcoming initiatives. 2:30-5pm: Giving Voice to Values Work with students in a seminar to teach you how to stand up for your values. 5pm: Return to Accra The evening is your own! Explore the city, dine, or just relax.

5 EXPLORE GHANA with our local guide and Ashesi community members Berekuso Spend time on Ashesi s campus in Berekuso, set upon the hilltops overlooking Accra. Our stunning 100-acre campus is renowned for its environmentally-conscious design, featuring a solar-powered library and rainwater collection system. Accra Explore Ghana s capital through a guided bus tour upon arrival. Then, team up with a member of the Ashesi community to see the city at your leisure. Elmina & Cape Coast On our trip to Ghana s coast, we will stay in Elmina, the first European settlement in West Africa. From there, we will tour Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum to learn about the history and legacy of the slave trade in Ghana.

6 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who arranges the trip? Ashesi partners with a local tour agency, Landtours, to make all arrangements except air travel to Ghana; guests pay their own expenses. Costs for this year s trip will be $2,350 per person for double occupancy, and $2,950 per person for single occupancy. What are the accommodations like? We stay at 3-4 star hotels, with all the facilities you would expect such as a swimming pool, gym, business center, and Wi-Fi. Daily breakfast is included with both Ghanaian and Western offerings. How will we get around? Landtours provides private transportation, with a driver and knowledgeable guide. The shuttle bus has spacious seating, is air conditioned, and is stocked with bottled water. An Ashesi staff member will be with the group at all times. What should I know about Ghana?
