We are too! Associação Livro Aberto s weekly mobile libraries reach more than 80 children, ages 3-8 and in three locations throughout the Costa do Sol area. Livro Aberto s mission is to foster an excitement for literacy, simultaneously developing skills requisite for reading success. Each session includes hands-on interactions with books where children listen to stories in Portuguese and Changaan, choose stories to read with peers, as well as, engage in literacy activities such as Reader s Theatre and Writer s Workshops (i.e., making their own books using recycled materials). These mobile libraries are setting the stage for what will be Mozambique s first children s library and literacy center. How can you help? Interested in becoming a mobile library reader? Can you help to contribute recycled materials (i.e., paper and cardboard boxes) or help to create recycled books?
