2 ALLI 01 Nuori Pori PORI KIDS/ENVI 8 vols 18+ W: The aim of the camp is to organize activities for children and cultural program for small festival for children and families and also to do some environmental work. The volunteers will remove allergy causing plants called pujo (mugworth in English), cut down bushes and other plants and clean up nature path in a small village nearby. The camp is organized by Nuori Pori 2100 (Young Pori 2100) which is a local youth organization. A: The accommodation will be arranged in the sport hall of the local school. Participants must take their own mattresses and sleeping bags. Participants will have cooking turns and cook their own food in the school. L: Pori is a town with inhabitants. It is located 250km from Helsinki to the north west coast. T:Pori ALLI 03 Museum Railway JOKIOINEN RENO 15 vols 18+ W: Jokioinen Museum Railway is a narrow gauge museum railway in southern Finland entirely operated by volunteer railway enthusiasts of Museum Railway Association. The main station called Minkio is located in the countryside in municipality of Jokioinen. The camp will maintain and restore the historic railway environment. The work consists of several tasks including track repair, outside area fixing and general railway maintenance. A: The accommodation is arranged by the Museum Railway Association. It will be arranged in old sleeping car cabins (2 3 people in each). Breakfast equipment will be served and most of the meals are made ready for the participants. L: Minkio is small village in the municipality of Jokioinen in southern Finland. The area is mostly countryside, among a few villages and the centre of Jokioinen. The nearest town is Forssa, about 100 km from Helsinki. T: Forssa ALLI 04 Vaala VAALA RENO/ENVI 12 vols 18+ W: The municipality of Vaala would like to renovate some local cultural heritage. The volunteers will participate in renovating local museum area in traditional methods. The work will include renovating a wooden roof and also doing some tidying of the surroundings. The volunteers will also have a chance learn the basics of lake paddling. A: The accommodation is in a local old log cottage which is by a large lake. The volunteers will prepare their own food by cooking in turns. For free time, there is possible to go swimming and have sauna, paddling, fishing and play beachvolley etc. The place is great for nature lovers. L: Vaala is a beautiful place about 90km west from Oulu and 600 km from Helsinki. T: Vaala ALLI 06 Sierla Renovation NUMMI PUSULA ENVI/RENO 15 vols 18 + W: The camp will do various maintenance and repair work in a summer house for youth. The volunteers will do painting work in the main building and tidying up the surrounding areas (beach, forest, yard) and some other work.the camp host is the youth office of city of Espoo and there will also be some local young people joining the camp. A: Volunteers will sleep in the main building (an old wooden school) in bunk beds. There is a well equipped kitchen where volunteers will cook their meals in turns. There are no showers but

3 instead there is a sauna and the lake. Toilets are outdoor. Volunteers can do fishing, rowing, canoeing, swimming and other outdoor activities. L: Sierla camp center is located by a lake Pitkajarvi, surrounded by fields and forests, in the municipal of Nummi Pusula. There is a farm close by but the other neighbours are mainly summer inhabitants. Nearest towns are Karkkila, Lohja and Salo (~30km) and the closest bigger city is Espoo (~60km). T: Espoo. The volunteers will be taken by bus from Espoo to the camp place. Special requirements: Use of alcohol is strictly forbidden in the camp. ALLI 07 Old Station HYRYNSALMI RENO 10vols age 18+ W: Volunteers help to renovate the old railway station in Hyrynsalmi. Historical exhibitions and happenings will be organized in the building when it is ready. Also art exhibitions. The camp host is a small local organisation which wants to maintain this piece of local heritage having an important meaning in the Finnish history. Most of the other buildings in the area were burnt down during the second world war. A: The volunteers are expected to cook in turns and be prepared to cook some typical dish from their own country. The volunteers will stay in a house with all facilities. L: Hyrynsalmi has 2800 inhabitants, Kajaani being the nearest city. Destination from Helsinki 650km north east. Great nature, lots of lakes and woods. The volunteers will have a chance to participate in a interesting event called swamp soccer because the world championship games will be held in the are in the end of the camp. T: Hyrynsalmi ALLI 09 Cultural Heritage JALASJARVI ENVI/CULT 10vols 18+ W: Local villages in Jalasjarvi want to take good care of their communal houses and environment. Communal houses are places where local people can gather together to meet each other or to join various activities. Maintenance of these houses together is important part of taking care of the local culture. Houses need renovation such as painting, cleaning up and fixing things. Also the surroundings need help: cutting the grass, clearing bushes etc. A: Accommodation will partly be in the communal houses. There will be toilets and showers and small kitchens. There will be some meals provided by the organizers but often the meals will be cooked together by the volunteers. L: Jalasjärvi is located in western Finland and in Southern Ostrobothnia region. The population of Jalasjarvi is about Jalasjärvi has nine villages and in the centre of Jalasjärvi you can find all the basic services. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood. In summertime there are a lot of happenings in Jalasjärvi (theatre, dances etc).seinäjoki is the nearest town. about 40 km away. The distance from Helsinki to Jalasjarvi is about 400km. T: Jalasjarvi Special requirement: The volunteers need to have a travel insurance. ALLI10 Piispala KANNONKOSKI ENVI 20vols 18+ W: The camp host is Piispala youth centre which is focusing on children s and youth activities. There are excellent sport and recreational facilities in this centre. The work on the camp will include tidying up the surroundings and planting flowers and different kinds of plants around Piispala area.

4 A: The accommodation will be in Piispala youth centre either in cottages or in tents. The centre is by a lake with good facilities such as saunas etc. The meals will be served in the canteen. L: Kannonkoski is situated in a beautiful place in the middle of Finland. It is a small village with only 1600 inhabitants. The nearest city is Jyväskylä, 105km from Piispala. There you can find the nearest railway station and airport. Piispala is situated by the beautiful lake Kivijarvi and has very good sports facilities (swimming hall, ice hall, bowling hall, gyms, sports hall, climbing wall, tennis courts etc.) T: Kannonkoski ALLI 11 KULABO MEDIA CAMP Rauma CULT 15vols 18+ W: The cultural youth centre of Rauma works actively with cultural and intercultural issues organizing events, campaigns and workshops. The themes of the work camp are short film producing and culture producing issues. Volunteers will also become acquainted with ancient technology and eco art as well as have a work shop on photography. Issues like human rights and racism and tackled by the means of media education. A: During the camp our headquarters will be in Rauma but we will stay overnight in other places as well so the volunteers will need a sleeping bag. L: In Rauma there are about inhabitants, Rauma is located in wetern Finland between Turku (100km) and Pori (50km). Terminal: Rauma bus station. It is about 300km from Helsinki to Rauma and there are direct buses. ALLI12 Sirkkula KUOPIO RENO/SOCI 7vols 18+ W: The camp host is a local association Sirkkulanpuisto which mainly works with marginalized people like alcoholics etc. The work will be renovating some buildings of the organisation and there will also be chance to get to know the activities of the organisation. There might be also some other tasks like recycling etc. A: The accommodation is in apartments with facilities. The volunteers will do cooking in turns. The association owns also a summer cottage so there will be chances to go to sauna and swimming etc. L: Kuopio is a beautiful town in eastern Finland about 500 km from Helsinki. You can fly to Kuopio or take a train. T: Kuopio ALLI13 Metsakartano RAUTAVAARA CULT/FEST 8vols 18+ W: The camp takes place in amazing environment in the middle of Finland, in Metsakartano Youth and Wilderness Centre. Volunteers will help several tasks of the youth centre, for example in the kitchen and in cleaning the youth centre premises. Helping Metsäkartano s guides in instructing activities for the youth will be also one of the tasks. The other tasks can be from example cleaning the windows or cutting the grass. There will also be some work in arranging an international youth event in Metsakartano. The youth event will be for years old youth from the nearby municipalities. The event will include workshops about democracy, intercultural dialogue and much more. Volunteers will organize a cultural market for the event. The volunteers can also make their own activity for the youth event, for example a workshop related to their home country. But the main part of the work camp the volunteers will assist in practical tasks.

5 A: Accommodation will be in a charming wooden cottage, which has its own kitchen, bathroom, and sauna. Rooms are for 2 6 people and have bunk beds. Meals will be served it the canteen where the food is mainly ecological food made by local products. L: The Metsakartano youth and wilderness centre is an all year around and youth camp jamboree resort. It is a perfect location for families and vacationers seeking for peace, clean air and genuine nature surroundings and activity programs in inhabited wilderness. It is surrounded by hilly forests, lakes and rivers. The closest train station is in Nurmes, about 38 km away. Closest airports are Joensuu and Kuopio, about 135 km away. There will be arranged transfer from/to Nurmes bus/train station. T: Nurmes ALLI14 Primitive Surviving7 Yli Ii ARCH/ENVI 7 vols 18 + W: This primitive surviving project is an Experimental archaeology revival of Stone Age daily life from the wilderness. It intends to be a scientific reconstitution of Stone Age daily life. We believe that archaeological alive reconstitutions are one of the strongest medium to perform the teaching of historical sciences. This project includes the interesting perspective of testing in real conditions the hypotheses made by archaeologists about prehistoric life and crafts. The volunteers will receive information on Stone Age technologies, crafts and food harvesting, which means that they will collect some of their own food with their self made tools. Kierikki Stone Age Centre is the basecamp for the group of volunteers. This is the seventh nomadic fishing camp set in a Yli Ii. One branch of the project is to support the promotion of the richness of the Finnish forests, the knowledge of the edible flora and fauna, and the idea that men can find their place in the wilderness as a sustainable part of the forest. The aim of the project is to offer the possibility for volunteers to learn, experience and perform in the Finnish wild woods: lake ancestral fishing techniques, surviving basic skills, handcrafting from natural surrounding materials, initiations to stone age primitive technologies, group life solidarity and teamwork in very simple conditions, nomadic ancient rhythmic of living. A: Accommodation will be inside reconstituted stone age houses, as well as, in hiking refuges and kotas. Comfort will be very basic (water from lakes and rivers, cooking on fire ). Food will be partly fished and collected from nature, partly bought. The volunteers should arrive with appropriate equipment and having checked carefully the webpage of the project L: Nearest train station is Oulu (600 km from Helsinki). From Oulu there are buses on weekdays to Yli Ii (50 km). SR: Participants must be in good health, have a valid travel insurance and be ready to very basic conditions like sleeping outdoors, motivation letter needed. There is an extra fee of 100 euros.

6 ALLI15 Vasatokka Inari ENVI 15 vols 18+ W: Practical landscaping work like cutting branches and bushes, carrying wood and other maintenance work around the youth centre Vasatokka. There might also be other work like painting depending on the weather conditions. A: Accommodation will be in dormitory rooms with common kitchen, toilets and showers. The volunteers will prepare most of their meals themselves. During free time volunteers can go fishing, sightseeing around the area, swimming, playing games, going to sauna, canoeing L: Northern Lapland, Inari. The area is barren, mostly dry pine forest with lakes, rivers and nice sceneries from arctic hills. T: The nearest bus stop and grocery is in Inari village (10km from the venue). The nearest airport is in Ivalo (60 km), nearest railway station in Rovaniemi (340km), from there you can continue by bus to Inari. You can also take a bus from Helsinki (1200 km). S.R: The place is far from civilization and useless amusements. Those who like nature will fall in love with this place.
