2 Room prices Saija, tradition and comfort - far from the hectic bustle of life Saija Lodge is situated in the northeast of Finland, south of the Arctic Circle, in the middle of the beautiful and original Finnish nature. The lodge is built directly by the shore of the idyllic Lake Jokijärvi and is surrounded by mostly state-owned commercial timberland. There is a cosy restaurant in the main building of the rustic Saija Lodge, which is completely made of wood. The rooms are situated in the side buildings. Each room has a surface of ca. 35 m2, with an own entrance and a separate sleeping and living room. All rooms are equipped with toilet, shower and sauna. Accommodation with full board Season A: Season B: Season C: , und Prices are per person. They include: accommodation with full board, breakfast, bed linen, towels and own sauna in the room. Children under 12 years: discount of 50%, under 4 years no charge in the same room with parents (no own bed) Good to know: Provided from Saija Lodge: Winter boots, overall, gloves, hat and balaclava. Good to take with you: Goggles, sleeping bag and a plastic bottle for water (for day- and overnight trips), house shoes (for the overnight trip), thermal underwear, fleece or ski pullover, jogging trousers, warm socks (wollen) and scarf. Rental on the spot: skis, snowshoes and fat bikes The Northern Light evening is organized in the kota (Lappish teepee) and is included in all week programs. There will be served hot juice and cookies around an open fire, strories will be told and a Northern Light video shown. 1

4 Sky Cabins Starlit sky and magic lights of the North - directly from your bed The glass-roofed cabins are situated by the shore of the lake Jokijärvi. From there you have a perfect view to the Northern sky, which fascinates all year round with several light phenomenons. For a pleasant stay cares Saija s staff, who serves the meals in the main building. The glass-roofed cabins fit to 2-3 persons. Each cabin has a luxury bed, a sofa bed, toilet, shower and own sauna. Prices: Prices are per cabin. They include: bed linen, towels, breakfast and own sauna in the cabin. Half and full board as option available (meals are served in Saija's main building). Introduction day Today you receive more information about the coming week, we provide you with safari clothes and we show you around the lodge. Husky introduction (2-3 hours) You meet the dogs and get an introduction how to drive a dog team. We show you the needed equipment for the tour. After that, we leave for a test drive of about 13 km. Husky day-safari (4-6 hours) Today we drive about km. The route takes you through the beautiful forest and swamp scenery, over frozen lakes and along rivers. We have lunch around a campfire and return to Saija to spend the night in Saija. Overnight safari The 2-day-safari will take you through the beautiful winter scenery. We stay overnight in the simple but cosy wilderness cabin Harjajarvi. The cabin has a sauna, but no shower, no indoor toilet and no electricity. You look after your own dog team and help preparing the meals. The breakfast and dinner are served in the cabin, the lunch at a campfire in the wilderness. Free day Today you have the possibility to explore the surroundings by your own. You can also book an additional guided winter activity. This package includes a 2-day trip with an overnight stay in a wilderness cabin and lunch at a camp fire. Every day we choose a different trail. Cross-country skiing (ca. 2 hours) The guide introduces you to the techniques of cross-country skiing. Then he takes you on a small cross-country skiing trip in the close surroundings. Husky introduction (2-3 hours) You meet the dogs and get an introduction how to drive a dog team. We show you the needed equipment for the tour. After that, we leave for a test drive of about 13 km. You drive your own dog team of 4-6 dogs. Husky day-safari (4-6 hours) Today you are again outdoors with your faithful sledge dogs. This trip is about 30 km long. The guide prepares a typical Finnish outdoor lunch for you at a campfire. Snowmobile Safari (ca. 5 hours) After a short snowmobile driving instruction, you enjoy the speed in the beautiful nature. On the way we stop to have lunch at a campfire. Snowshoeing (ca. 3 hours) This hiking tour takes about 3 hours and you enjoy coffee/tea at a campfire. Together with the wilderness guide you will read animal tracks in the snow and you will be told more about the animals and plants of our area. Reindeer farm (ca. 4 hours) Today you visit a reindeer farm. The owner tells you about the reindeer, his work and his farm. Afterwards he invites you for a cup of Finnish coffee and a snack. 8 1 week package Saija's Christmas Christmas in Finland; is there a better place to spend Christmas than in the homeland of Santa Claus? Santa lives only 200 km away from Saija and has time to pay us a visit. Day of arrival (Samstag): After a transfer from the airport to Saija, our famous Finnish homemade food is being served for you. Instruction day: Today you receive information about the coming week, we provide you with safari clothes and we show you around the lodge. Christmas Eve: Christmas trees are ready to be picked up from the yard. Everybody gets an own small Christmas tree for decorating the room. The traditional Christmas porridge is served for lunch. In the afternoon we walk over the frozen lake to the close by Church Island. On this former cemetery island we commemorate people, who pasted away. We return to Saija, where we drink a warm Christmas glogg. Before the Christmas dinner is served, we read the Christmas evangelium. After the dinner, Santa Claus visits us and distributes to everyone a gift. Christmas Eve is the most important Christmas day in Finland. Christmas Day: On Christmas Day people in Finland normally stay at home and enjoy the quietness. We have a cosy walk to the close by island Villinsaari, where we try out tobogganing and enjoy a hot drink around the campfire. Following days of the week: You have the possibility to join a guided winter activity or explore the surrounding nature on your own. During this week the traditional smoke sauna will be heated for you. 9 New Year in the middle of beautiful Finnish nature, far away from the big crowds and their noisy New Year parties; New Year in Saija is celebrated in an old fashioned way; we sit around the fire and try out lead pouring. New Years Eve In the evening you can join a walk (in the dark) in the surroundings and you get to know a bit more about the village Jokijärvi, where also the popular author Kalle Päätalo used to live. After returning to Saija, the cosy kota welcomes you with a warm fire and a traditional evening snack. After enjoying the meal, you try out lead pouring; an old tradition to predict what the New Year will bring to you. At 12 p.m. sparkling wine is served and you lighten the star sparklers to celebrate the beginning of the New Year. Following days of the week Free days during which you have the possibility to join a guided excursion or explore the surrounding nature on your own. You will explore the diverse natural surroundings of Saija Lodge on day trips, stay over a night in a wilderness cabin and have lunch at a camp fire. Introduction ride (ca. 30 km) After the breakfast you are provided with a helmet and the guide introduces you to the techniques of snowmobile driving. Then you can enjoy the speed in the beautiful nature. Overnight tour ( km per day) Today you go on a 2-day safari, which takes you through the beautiful winter landscape. You stay overnight in a cosy wilderness cabin. We will enjoy the dinner together in the evening. The breakfast and the dinner are served in the hut and the lunch at a camp fire in the wilderness. Day tour ( km) On the today's day trip of about km, you can again enjoy the speed of your snowmobile. The lunch will be served at a camp fire. 12 Individual tours Snow Fun - guided tours Beside the special week packages you also can choose from several additional guided activities of the weekly program. Create your own holiday package according to your wishes. Fat biking in the snow Explore the snowy wild nature by fat bike. During the trip you have a break by the river where you enjoy a hot drink. On that spot you can observe the common dipper bird as also other wonder of the nature. ( 57 p.p., approx. 3 hrs) Cross-country skiing introduction followed by a tour in the surroundings ( 41 p.p., approx. 2 hrs) Snowshoe hiking We enjoy coffee and tea at the campfire. We search for and read animal tracks and hear more about the animals and vegetation of this area. ( 56 p.p., approx. 3 hrs) Dog sledging introduction You visit the huskies in the kennel and receive a short instruction how to drive a dog team. After that we go on a test drive of about 13 km. Each customer drives an own dog team of 4-6 dogs. ( 170 p.p., 2-3 hrs, 13 km) Short husky safari You know already how to handle a dog team and participate at a half-day husky safari. ( 200 p.p., 3 hrs, 20 km) Long husky safari This trip takes you through the beautiful forest and swamp scenery, over frozen lakes and along rivers. We have lunch around a campfire. Ice fishing The wilderness guide will explain you the technique of ice fishing. After that you try your own luck. We warm up with a hot drink at the campfire. 13 Short snowmobile tour After getting the safari clothes and a short instruction how to drive a snowmobile, you can enjoy the speed in the nature. The trip is a half-day tour with coffee at a campfire on the way. ( 139 p.p. = 2 persons per snowmobile, 180 p.p. = 1 person per snowmobile, 2-3 hrs, 30 km) Individual tours & individual activities Long snowmobile tour After getting the safari clothes and a short instruction how to drive a snowmobile, you can enjoy the speed in the nature. The trip is a day tour with lunch at a campfire on the way. ( 209 p.p. = 2 persons per snowmobile, 269 p.p. = 1 person per snowmobile, 46 hrs, 60 km) Hunting Northern Lights on snowmobile After getting the safari clothes and a short instruction how to drive a snowmobile, you can start the hunt. The trip is a late evening tour with a photo break and coffee at the campfire on the way. ( 155 p.p. = 2 persons per snowmobile, 195 p.p. = 1 person per snowmobile, 2-3 hrs, approx. 30 km). Please note that we cannot promise to see Northern Lights, although the chances are quite good. Visit of a reindeer farm You visit a reindeer farm in Taivalkoski. The owner will tell you about his work, the farm and the reindeer. After that you are invited to have coffee and a snack. ( 98 p.p., approx. 4 hrs) The Huskys of Saija are eagerly waiting for your visit and would love to go for a walk with you. The surrounding nature is full of opportunities. The routes for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and biking start directly behind the main building of Saija Lodge. For individual trips we rent equipment on the spot: Cross-country equipment 16 / day Snowshoes 16 / day Fat bike 20 / day In addition we have tobaggans and kicksledges for free use! 14 How to reach us: You reach us by plane to Kuusamo or Oulu. Airport transfers to/from Saija are included in the one week packages (spesific flights). There are also rental cars available at both airports. Another possibility is to use the public transportation (Bus to/from Taivalkoski).
