2 Dr. Jean-Christophe Boucher, political science was interviewed about the end of the Afghanistan mission by the Canadian military. Dr. Boucher was interviewed by CBC Edmonton, Vancouver, Regina, Calgary, Victoria, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Sudbury and Iqaluit. Attached is the clip from CBC Toronto. Dr. Chaldeans Mensah, political science appeared 'live' on CBC Radio's Alberta at Noon to discuss premier Alison Redford's political situation after Tory MLA Len Webber crossed the floor to sit as an independent MLA. Dr. Torah Kachur, biological sciences discussed new scientific research into homosexuality in the animal kingdom. Print/Online MLA jumps ship as Redford pays back $45,000 for South Africa trip interviewed after premier Redford announced she would pay $45,000 for th cost of her trip to South Africa to attend Nelson Mandela's funeral. Here's a part of the story: At MacEwan University in Edmonton, Chaldeans Mensah said the issue has been "a major political headache" for the premier, but Wednesday's move may give her the chance to get her government's agenda back on track. To do that effectively, Redford has to tighten controls to ensure questions about spending and travel don't derail her agenda in the future, he said. MacEwan University Page 2
3 MacEwan receives $30 million from province for new arts facility President David Atkinson and Board Chair John Day were both interviewed for this story about the province helping to fund our new academic building. Here's a part of the story: "This is truly an investment on Alberta's future," said MacEwan president David Atkinson, adding the university "deeply appreciates" the province's "vote of confidence" in the institution. "The expansion will enhance the arts district and contribute to the transformation of downtown," added Atkinson, noting the new arena is going up on 104th Avenue to the east of MacEwan and the Royal Alberta Museum just north of City Hall. The project will go out to tender early this summer. "We want to move forward; there are a lot of competing pressures," Atkinson said. It's magic! Will Alison Redford's new ability to find money under the couch cushions be enough to save her This column discussed the the recent funding announcements by the province for the LRT and MacEwan University. Here's a part of the story: Wednesday, it was Grant MacEwan University's turn for a treat: $30 million, over three years, to help fund MacEwan's long-planned $153-million downtown arts campus. The plan will allow MacEwan to close its Jasper Place and Millwoods sites and consolidate in the downtown core. That's great news for downtown and for all Edmonton arts lovers since the plan also includes a new downtown theatre and recital hall. MacEwan University Page 3
4 Illness forces Richard Wagamese to postpone Edmonton reading MacEwan University Book of the Year author, Richard Wagamese had to cancel an event at MacEwan due to illness. Here's a part of the story: Author Richard Wagamese's gala public reading at MacEwan University has been postponed due to unspecified health reasons, it was announced Tuesday. Wagamese's 2012 novel, Indian Horse (Douglas & McIntyre), was selected as the 2013 MacEwan Book of the Year. The British Columbiabased writer was due to appear at the university on March 17 for the reading, which was to include a Q&A with Edmonton author Richard Van Camp. Not a nice lady': After staring down a caucus revolt, is there a political future for Alberta premier Alison Redford interviewed about Tory MLA crossing the floor to sit as an independent MLA. Here's a part of the story: 5. "It appears that there has been a subtle power shift, from the office of the premier to the caucus and. the leader is having to follow in order to keep herself in power," said Chaldeans Mensah, a political science professor at MacEwan University. "She has taken an important step, meeting the requirements of caucus by paying back that troublesome $45,000. Now she is hoping to build on that. The question is, are there going to be other defections? We don't know." MacEwan University Page 4
5 Downtown Galleria project a great concept, but the devil is in the details: Hancock This story is about the proposed Galleria project for the downtown area. Here's a part of the story: 6. Hancock declined to say which department is holding potential Galleria funding, but it won't necessarily be "this year money" because the project could be two or three years out before big spending is required. "It's like the arena concept - it's exciting but... we're not paying prices that are not competitive. " Hancock said it makes sense for the U of A to expand into downtown even while MacEwan University is consolidating on one campus. "They are very different institutions," said Hancock.
