1 Invitation On behalf of the Ecuadorian Canoe Federation and the Panamerican Canoe Confederation, we are pleased to invite all the American Federations to participate in the Panamerican and Para-Pan-American Canoe Championship, which will be held October 12th to 15 th, Area (total): km2 Population: 15.6 million. (2014) Official Language: Spanish, Kichwa (Quichua) Time Zone: ECT / GALT(UTC 5 / 6) Currency: United States Dollar. Geography: 4 geographical regions; Galápagos, Pacific coast, Andes and Amazonia. Comprised of 24 provinces. Ecuador received its name from the imaginary equatorial line. This line traverses the country and divides the earth into its two hemispheres. Ecuador is located in the northern region of South America, bordered by Colombia to the north, south-east by Peru and the west by the Pacific Ocean. The continental territory is divided by the volcanic Cordillera de los Andes running north and south, in the south by the Gulf of Guayaquil and the Amazon in the northeast. Ecuador has the highest concentration of rivers per square kilometer in the world, featuring some of the most diverse animal and vegetable species. Ecuador is also one of the most traditional and culturally preserved countries. It has received five nominations for the Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The capital city, Quito, is located 115 km from the Games venue in the city of Ibarra.
San Miguel de Ibarra San Miguel located in northern Ecuador, 104 km from Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito. The weather is mild with average temperatures ranging from 16º to 28º Celsius (October weather), and its altitude is 2300 meters above sea level. This bustling highlands metropolis is known as The White City because of the historical Spanish influence on its gorgeous facades and inspiring architecture. It is a cultural city where the arts, writing, leatherwork, painting and history are celebrated and championed. It also boasts the principal highway, linking the four main destinations in the country by connecting southerly to Quito, westerly to the Pacific Ecuadorian coast, northerly to the Colombian border and easterly to the Oriental-Amazonia region. Lagoon of Yahuarcocha
Lagoon of Yahuarcocha; This lagoon is approximately 12,000 years old, dating from the post-glacial maximum period. In the Kichwa language, Laguna de Yahuarcocha means blood lake because it was the scene of a bloody massacre committed by the Incas against a rebellious indigenous Caranquis uprising. It is said that after the bloody battle, the Inca commander ordered his men to cut the enemys throats without pity throw their bodies into the lake. Currently, the Lagoon is one of the major tourist spots of the Imbabura province, surrounded by natural views of indigenous crops and lands. Yaguarcocha has a water mirror of 257 hectares with a navigable 7970m perimeter, maximum depth of 8m and 2200m above sea level. On its shore you can find fruit trees and totora plants growing. Additionally, on the eastern part of the lake is a recreational area. To learn more about the history and places you can visit, check out this website:
La Catedral church On the corner of Garcia Moreno and Sucre streets is the cathedral, a sumptuous Roman and eclectic style building with an adobe facade that memorializes the survivors of the devastating 1868 earthquake. Inside, it has a basilica with three naves and three doors. At the altar of the Blessed Sacrament of the Immaculate Conception and San Miguel are paintings by noted Ecuadorian artist Rafael Troya, who contributed portraits of the apostles. Sightseeing: San Miguel de Arcangel San Miguel de Arcangel is a hill located in the eastern part of the city. Traditionally it is a place to go sightseeing, taking in views of the city in the fertile valley below and as well as the breathtaking greenery of the highlands. The statue of San Miguel de Arcangel, the patron saint of the city, is located here.
Half of the world In the XVII century, the French Geodesic Mission arrived in Ecuador to ascertain the earth s shape and map the equator. This tourist destination is located in San Antonio de Pichincha parish, 14 kilometers from Quito. Nowadays is one of the main tourist attractions, and the only place where you can take a picture with one foot in each hemisphere, balance an egg on a nail and prove that here you will weigh a kilo less than any other part of the world.
