1 August 31st, 2018 Haddon Primary School Principal s Report Pupil Free Day: NEXT WEDNESDAY 5th SEPTEMBER On Wednesday we will be hosting a pupil free day. This replaces the report writing day for staff in Term 4, which we had scheduled for December. This day has been bought forward due to the power outage planned by Powercor. As a result of the Royal Commission into the Black Saturday fires there are safety systems to be installed. These are tightly scheduled and are required to be completed prior to the Fire season which has been bought forward. Powercor were unable to postpone the day until the school holidays due to their tight schedule. As you would know we are unable to operate the school without power for an extended time due to the septic system. Our system is a water treatment plant which can only operate with power. Although we could manage for an hour we couldn t operate safely for a day! The environmental damage would make it a health hazard for the students and staff. Making a Principal: Maryanne Moody Phone: Website rd September 5/6 Urban Camp-1 night 5th September PUPIL FREE DAY 7th September School Council 10th September Concert DVD orders due Apologies for this late notice however this was beyond our control. 12th September 5/6 Basketball Tournament Carpark: 14th September Division Athletics A review of the current situation for our car park / bus zone was undertaken by the shire on the 13th of August. The Technical Operations Manager confirmed that the former bus zone illegally covered an access drive way and had to be shifted. There were 10 parks taken with the new bus zone. There have been 5 created where the bus formally parked. The After School Care bus was taking 6 spaces, as it was required to parallel park along the Recreation Centre Wall. As such, the shire confirmed there was no reduction of parking capacity but there was a creation of a safety zone for the busses. The parks however are no longer in a block which gave the impression of the reduction. In addition, the amount of traffic recorded by the road counter (located in Sago Hill road) was very informative in terms of volume of traffic which will support our request for a crossing in front of the school. The Technical Operations Manager for the shire was very pleased. It appears that we may get a crossing which will provide additional safety for parents and students crossing the road. The crossing may cut across the current car park. The shire are planning to send traffic wardens to book illegally parking parents as it was noted by the operations manager the number of parking infringements. The enhanced safety for children with the staff car parking precinct in the front of the school was also strongly reinforced as it reduces the volume of reversing cars where children are endeavouring to cross or make their way to cars at peak times. The visibility for drivers reversing their cars where there are primary school children was viewed as extremely dangerous. This concern was validated last year when a child was struck by a not noticing reversing driver. The shire keep the safety of the children in their carpark as their number one priority. They have also considered blocking the car park completely so it would only be available for staff and delivery vehicles. At this stage the consensus was that this was not required. 17th September Concert Photo orders due 21st September End of term 3-Students dismissed at 2.30pm. 8th October Term 4 commences 17th Fairytail Cookbook incursion Whole School 16th October PUPIL FREE staff Conference 19th October 2/3 Sovereign Hill Excursion 26th October School Council 30th October 34F & 34C Werribee Zoo Excursion November 27th 2019 Prep information session 6.30pm 30th November School Council Book Parade: Congratulations to all of our students on the costumes for our book parade. Many parents out did themselves with the creative and colourful characters. The judging was extremely difficult. So many families are very creative and our staff are equally as competitive it would seem. 6th & 13th December Prep transition days 9.30am-11am Father Day Stall: Students purchased gifts for the dads this morning. There was a good range of products and Kellie Anderson managed to do a top up for us earlier in the week.
