2 5 Holiday Travel Myths: Debunked! Butterflies are some of the most common insects known worldwide. It is estimated that there are about 17,500 species spread throughout almost the entire world. They belong to the order of Lepidoptera which means scaledwinged; scales which come off like dust on one's fingers when the insects are handled. The adults have large, often brightly coloured wings and are frequently sought after by collectors of all ages. They feed by uncoiling their long straw-like proboscis to sip nectar from flowers, making some species agents of pollination. Other species may feed on rotting fruit or water from puddles. The average lifespan for an adult butterfly is days. In some cases, species live no longer than 3 or 4 days, while others may live up to 4 months. The greatest threat to butterflies is habitat loss from residential, commercial and agricultural development. Climate change is also believed to be threatening several species of butterflies. There are over 150 species of butterflies among the diverse terrestrial fauna of Jamaica, with approximately 35 endemic species and 22 endemic subspecies. This newly installed exhibition at the Norman Manley International Airport highlights some of the island's endemic and unique butterfly species from various families within the group. DO GO SEE! Everything about travel costs more during the holidays. While holiday flight prices rise due both to speculative pricing as well as simple supply and demand, this is not necessarily true across the entire spectrum of travel services. For example, hotel pricing can be unexpectedly affordable during the holidays, as studies show that around 50 percent of holiday travelers stay with family. Add to this the fact that business travel is almost non-existent this time of year. The same is often true of rental car outfits, especially during Thanksgiving, when the large majority (91 percent) of travelers take trips in their own vehicle. Waiting for a last minute deal is the cheapest way to buy air tickets According to new research from Expedia and the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC), it's best to buy tickets on a Tuesday - and ideally, more than 21 days in advance - to take advantage of the best possible rates. When it comes to international flights, the lowest fares were found even farther in advance - between 150 and 225 days - with the lowest price around the 171 day mark. All warm destinations will be overrun with vacationers. This is the case for some but not all warm-weather destinations. There are a few factors that can make one location a lot more or less crowded than others. Some beautiful, warm destinations remain largely untapped by tourists and locals. Airports are way busier, with way more delays. Although lately every trip to the airport feels like it was busier than the last one, this isn't entirely the case. In fact, the number of people simply opting out of the whole flying experience during the peak winter season is on the rise. Booze warms you up. Vincent HoSang during a ceremony to hand over a fever-scanning machine to the Passport, Immigration Citizenship Agency (PICA) whilst officials from NMIA Airports Limited, the Ministries of Health and National Security as well as members of the Vincent HoSang Family Foundation look on. The body scanning machine is valued at US$38,000. It is expected that on-screen alerts will aid in the quick detection of elevated body temperatures of passengers arriving in a large crowd situation without interrupting passenger flow. This alert will signal to the health authorities that there may be possible health issues with the passenger( s) in question. The celebrations continued throughout the week with a slew of activities focused on motivating, team building and boosting the morale of the Customer Service Team. The airport community was reminded of the general commitment to customer satisfaction and the important role everyone played in the process. 6 *BREAKING NEWS* Southwest Airlines is continuing its Caribbean expansion out of its hub at Houston s Hobby Airport. The carrier launched service between Houston and Montego Bay, Jamaica on Sunday, 1 NOVEMBER The Houston-Montego Bay flight departs at 10:35 AM, returning around 6:15 PM from Jamaica. Last year, Southwest launched its first-ever international service with flights to Aruba, Montego Bay and Nassau, Bahamas out of Baltimore/Washington, followed by flights to Cancun and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
