Both, IATA and Fraport s Local Training Coordinators (LTC) have compiled some information about Frankfurt which hopefully will assist in making the upcoming course visit as easy and convenient as possible for you. 10 Page 10 Germany at a glance Please read this information before leaving your country. Germany is part of the so-called Schengen area. Entry requirements To enter Germany, you must hold a passport which is valid for at least four months from your date of arrival. For citizens of EU-countries a valid identity card will do. Visa EU citizens do not require a visa. Citizens of all other countries will generally need a visa, with the exception of some countries for which the European Community has abolished the visa requirement. Nationals of those countries do not require a visa for visits to Germany lasting no longer than three months in a six-month period.

Customs For goods from other EU countries no duties have to be paid as long as you carry them with you and they are intended for your own personal use. Goods imported into Germany from a non-eu country are tax-exempted up to a total value of 300,00 (respectively 430,00 if traveling by air). Some restrictions do apply for specific commodities such as tobacco, alcoholic beverages and perfumes. 12 Page 12 Germany at a glance Please read this information before leaving your country. Vaccinations Generally, no vaccinations are required for entry into Germany. However, between spring and autumn there is an increased risk of contracting illnesses caused by ticks, such as Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). The best protection is to wear clothing that does cover as much of the skin as possible. In case you are bitten, we strongly advise to seek immediate medical assistance as a precaution. The areas of highest risk are to be found within the federal states of Baden - Württemberg and Bavaria, as well as in certain regions within Hesse (where FRA is located), Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia. TBE vaccinations are recommended if you intend to spend a lot of time with outdoor-activities.

13 Page 13 Germany at a glance Please read this information before leaving your country. Climate Overall, Germany has a warm, temperate, wet climate with winds prevailing from the west. Extreme fluctuations in temperature are quite rare. Rain does fall throughout the year. Rather mild winters (2ºC to -6ºC) and moderately hot summers (18ºC to 25ºC) are the norm. When getting ready for your trip and choosing your apparel, we recommended to always bring along a sweater or waterproof jacket as well as sturdy shoes, at least a pair of sneakers.

Language and Lifestyle Apart from High German which is understood everywhere, many different regional accents and dialects exist. Germans are quite fluent in English, especially if employed in the service sector. Young people might even speak additional foreign languages such as French or Spanish. Therefore, guests from abroad should usually not face any communication problems. Life in Germany is subject to a great diversity of cultural influences. Generally, it is characterized by a modern and cosmopolitan mind-set. Germans love to get together and celebrate, whether in a traditional style during the carnival season, at regional wine-tasting festivities or when attending one of the numerous music festivals. Enjoying good food is just part of the game.

22 Page 22 Etiquette Tipping policies Hotels Throughout Germany tipping is expected when staying in a hotel. If you receive good service you should give your porter between 1,00 and 3,00 per bag. Your housekeeper should receive between 3,00 and 5,00 Euros per night. The tip may be left on the bed or nightstand. If your concierge provides outstanding service, you can tip up to 10,00 or even 20,00.

24 Page 24 Fraport Training Facilities General Information Arrival procedure Upon arrival at Fraport s Headquarters, please contact the reception desk. You will obtain further information about the designated training room and on how to get there. Usually, the venue is located on the ground floor of the building. Cash withdrawal In case you re running out of money, there is an ATM-facility available next to the entrance to the FRAbar. You may retrieve money by debit or credit cards. Please note however, that additional costs may incur, depending on the policy of your bank. Security advice Please make sure that you re wearing your airport badge at all times and in a clearly visible way. Strict adherence to this rule is of importance, especially when entering non-public airport areas!! Moreover, please do not forget to return your badge to your host at the end of the course.

25 Page 25 Fraport Training Facilities General Information Smoking policy Unfortunately you re not allowed to smoke anywhere in the building. However, smoking is permitted in designated areas of the patio. Storage of Luggage Luggage can be placed inside the designated classroom. However, please note that Fraport may not be held liable for any damage or loss of items, if they are left unattended (e.g. during lunch-breaks). Wireless Internet Access Every morning, you will be provided with a complimentary voucher to access the W-LAN network. This voucher can be used for a single device only and covers a maximum utilization period of 12 hours on that specific day (please note, strictly one voucher only per person). Further instructions on how to log in or to configure your equipment will be given locally.

26 Page 26 Where to eat at lunchtime During morning sessions, coffee, tea, water, juices and biscuits will be offered free of charge to every course participant. In the afternoon, catering consists of the same selection of beverages in addition to a choice of either fruits, cakes or tartlets. For lunchtime, we suggest to visit the following premises: FRAbar This is a self-service café, located in the lobby of Fraport s Headquarters next to the main entrance. It offers a wide selection of coffee specialties as well as delicious (hot or cold) snacks such as freshly baked panini, crunchy baguettes, donuts, muffins and crispy salads. Payment is possible by cash or credit card. Staff Restaurant Building 164 One of several catering facilities used by airport staff is located in close vicinity to Fraport s Headquarters. Every day, at least three freshly prepared menus are on offer (incl. dishes conforming to halal-preparation). In addition, an extensive salad bar and various fruit baskets are available. Payment by cash only!

27 Page 27 City information How to get around (1) Public Transportation System ( RMV ) Frankfurt disposes of a vast and very efficient urban public transport network. Please make sure to provide yourself with a ticket before boarding any mode of transportation by using the automated vending machines whenever possible. Fare indication: Airport-Downtown o-w: 4,80 Day-Pass (recommended) 9,35 * *Guests of the InterCity Hotel Frankfurt Airport are provided with a free day-pass during their stay at the hotel. Ask for it at the reception.

28 Page 28 City information How to get around (2) Suburban Trains ( S-Bahn ) You can take the lines S8 and S9 of the suburban trains from the airport (regional railway station at T1) straight to the cities of Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Offenbach and Hanau. By the way, the cities of Wiesbaden and Mainz are perfect spots to visit during your leisure time once your course ends in the afternoon.

29 Page 29 City information How to get around (3) The fastest way from Frankfurt s main station to the airport: S8/S9 in the direction of Wiesbaden or Mainz to Frankfurt Flughafen Regionalbahnhof (Terminal 1). Travel time is approximately 11 minutes. to the Zeil (main shopping district): All S-Bahn lines (except for line S7) in the direction of Hanau, Rödermark, Ober-Roden, Dietzenbach, Offenbach, Frankfurt Süd or Darmstadt to station Hauptwache. Travel time is approximately 3 minutes. to Sachsenhausen (pub district): S3/S4 in the direction of Darmstadt or Langen to Lokalbahnhof S5/S6 in the direction of Frankfurt Süd to Lokalbahnhof Travel time is approximately 8 minutes.

30 Page 30 Travel information How to get around (4) Long-distance trains Frankfurt Airport is well integrated into the high-speed network of Deutsche Bahn (DB). Every day, more than 170 ICE- and IC-trains stop at the airport s long-distance train station, located just across from Terminal 1. For instance, renowned German cities such as Cologne or Stuttgart can be reached within an one-hour-ride. Travel Centers and Service Points of Deutsche Bahn (DB) are located at the regional train station in Terminal 1, Level 0 as well as at the AIRail terminal integrated in the pedestrian bridge which links Terminal 1 to THE SQUAIRE. Staff will gladly provide you with any kind of information you may require. Opening hours are usually Monday Sunday from 06:00 am until 09:00 pm.

31 Page 31 City information Shopping suggestions Frankfurt Downtown Apart from a multitude of shopping opportunities at Frankfurt Airport the Zeil is Frankfurt s best-known shopping promenade. Located right in the heart of the City, it s here where you will find all kind of department stores, retail chains and specialty shops. Be it clothing or footwear, jewelry or consumer electronics, everything can be found at this spot. For those with an even more exclusive taste, strolling around Goethestraße might be an option. Featuring everything from Armani to Versace, this street is home to luxury labels and top designer brands from all across the globe. Shopping malls in the city center not to be missed include the following: MyZeil (address: Zeil 106) and SkyLine Plaza (address: Europa-Allee 6).

Business Hours of shops in Frankfurt are generally within the following range: Monday Saturday from 10:00 am until 08:00 pm Sunday *closed* (with some exceptions, e.g. souvenir shops) However, please note that other rules might be in place for certain locations, during specific seasons (e.g. Christmas) or at dedicated stores. It s highly recommended to check current opening hours in advance via the internet.

33 Page 33 City information Sightseeing Frankfurt am Main (cont.) With the city being a truly multi-cultural metropolis, there is a lot to see and do, even in a relatively short time available. In fact, famous sights, shopping miles and the large commercial center are not very distant from each other. The various city quarters and suburbs of Frankfurt offer many interesting locations to visit and can easily be reached by using the dense and efficient network of the public transportation system ( RMV ). A very useful web-page from which to retrieve a comprehensive overview of what to see in Frankfurt is the following: If you wish, your local training coordinators are more than happy to assist you with additional suggestions in order to allow for a personalized city experience.

34 Page 34 Etiquette How to find a seat & tipping policies Restaurants In German restaurants, you generally seat yourself. If you are a party of two sitting at a table which may accommodate up to four persons, don t be offended if another couple joins you. It may be considered sort of a weird behavior if you refuse to have someone seated next to you. Water is not free at restaurants and requesting tap water can be deemed as being impolite and not appropriate to the place. As you usually seat yourself in German restaurants, be aware of tables which are marked as Stammtisch. These are reserved for regulars. Simply round up to the next Euro or add a few Euros (5% - 10% for good service). No need to overdo it. Give the gratuity directly to the waiter, or just add it to the bill.

Yet, the city offers a diversified gastronomic scene that might surprise even the most discerning visitor. The population is for sure among the most cosmopolitan in Germany. As such, citizens from more than 170 different nationalities not only contribute with their specific culture to the truly international flair which makes Frankfurt so unique but also by enriching a predominantly simple local cuisine (local specialties do include Frankfotter Grie Soß or Handkäs mit Musik ) with flavors from all around the globe. 43 Page 43 General information Power supply Electricity, Voltage The electrical current used throughout Germany is 220 volts, alternating current (AC), 50 cycles. Prongs are of the standard European type (see above). Upon request, your hotel will supply you with appropriate adapters (ask at the reception desk). Local stores many of which are also to be found in the public areas of Terminal 1 are selling them as well.
