Richmond has many of the major restaurant chains and can be found within 500m of Richmond Bridge. There are also plenty of privately owned restaurants with culinary offerings from around the world, including; Indian, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish. Jamie Oliver s Jamie s Italian Trattoria restaurant is located just 2-minutes walk from 8 Red Lion Street. The Bingham Hotel nearby and overlooking the Thames was awarded its first Michelin star in Richmond upon Thames, of which Richmond North and South make up two of its wards, has the least poverty in London. The town has the largest commercial centre in the borough and is classified a major centre according to the London Plan. Richmond boasts a buzzing arts scene with many galleries and museums. Other highlights include a 14-screen cinema, comedy shows and a range of bars, pubs and clubs all set in a stunning riverside location. There are two local theatres, the Richmond Theatre and the Orange Tree Theatre. The borough has excellent road and public transport links to all parts of the UK so is well placed as a visitor and commercial centre. The Thames is a major contributor to the interest that Richmond inspires in many people. It has an extensive frontage around Richmond Bridge, containing many bars and restaurants.
