1 Present-day Village-based Production of Earthenware and Stoneware in Mainland Southeast Asia Louise Allison Cort and Leedom Lefferts The attached pages indices of indigenous earthenware and stoneware production sites in Mainland Southeast Asia including Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore are a provisional listing of the results of over 20 years of research, 1992 February Our research goal has been to survey every indigenous production site extant during this period, examine and chart the production techniques seen at each site, and begin to formulate an understanding of the relationships and discontinuities across these different techniques. These data are preliminary and subject to further analysis and change. These pages provide a context for our published articles which are available online in pdf format through the kind generosity of the Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (NSC-ISEAS), Singapore: < We welcome information from other researchers who have visited and documented any of the sites in these lists and any other indigenous production locations in Mainland Southeast Asia. We are currently (2013) incorporating Mrs Charlotte Reith s extensive survey of Burma/Myanmar into this material and will post this information as soon as possible. We are also reanalyzing our own preliminary results. The attached indices follow a standard format: Site #: Sites are numbered in the order we visited them except for Northeast Thailand; there, we adopted the numbering system used by Samruad Inban, Survey of Ceramic Technology in the Northeast (Khon Kaen, 1989/2532). For additional Northeastern sites not included in his survey, we used letters rather than numbers. Location: village, district, province (ethnicity as stated by villagers) Dates: day-month-year format (dates in parentheses are dates visited outside of formal project work); if another person has been to this site or to any other that we haven t visited and told us, we have included that information.
