2 59. PERTH HOBBY CENTRE was established in Murray Street, Perth in 1979 by modellers to sell all kinds of models and modelling accessories. Since then we have become one of the top model shops in Perth. 3 Hi Everyone, Did you have a go on the U-Drives? Did you try out the Puzzles? Did you get the Magazine / Book you always wanted? On behalf of the members of the Australian Model Railway Association WA Inc. I welcome you to this year s exhibition. At the exhibition this year there are a great variety of layouts from the fun to serious representations of actual places. The workmanship ranges from the home-family to the professional. Most of all, the exhibition is presented as a family event that everyone can get enjoyment from. There are layouts children of all ages can play with from on the floor to the u-drives and puzzles Along with the model railways there are many kindred societies and fellow groups from preservation and loosely associated groups to model railways, in which to show interest. For the children at heart there is a train ride which can be both relaxing and interesting. This year we have the St John s First Aid for children there to help in learning some lifesaving skills. If you like model railways come visit the various clubs at the exhibition and ask where and when they meet. Our advice centre is here to help and endeavour to answer your questions and queries. Also, if there are any lost children of any age we will help you find them. 4 1. St Johns Ambulance will be supporting the Model Railway Exhibition with free first aid demonstrations. Pop in to the St John marquee to learn CPR, vital bandaging skills and take a look at the inside of an ambulance. 2. TINKERING TOOLS has an extensive range of quality hand and mini tools for all your modelling projects. We strive to update our range constantly looking for new items knowing every modelling project requires its own unique finishing touches. Our own range of pliers are made from Japanese Stainless Steel, and are all box jointed with a double leaf spring and colour coded. We have tools which are similar in design to what the medical industry use therefore are great for hobbyists too. 5 58. MODELLERS OF AUSTRALIAN PROTOTYPE MOAP is a small, private group of friends with the common interest in modelling Australian railways of any state or gauge in any scale. We meet weekly at each other s homes to foster our interest in Australian based model railways. Our stand features a number of displays this year which highlight the members varied interests. WEST MERREDIN is an N-Scale layout built by John Miller and represents the standard gauge operations on the Eastern Goldfields Railway in the 1990 s. It features scratchbuilt structures and many scratchbuilt items of rollingstock. All of the locomotives in operation are kit-built. A RAIL BRIDGE TO NO WHERE is an HO-Scale diorama built by Andrew McCulloch and is not based on any one state rail system but rather a tribute to these bridges in general. The diorama is a single - track steel truss bridge with an exit from a tunnel portal. Nearly every state of Australia had some form of this type of bridge eg. The Maribyrnong River Rail Bridge in Victoria and the Cockle Creek Bridge in NSW. 3. Train World Pty. Ltd. Is situated in suburban Melbourne, in the bayside suburb of Brighton, Train World is a mecca for model train enthusiasts. We stock an extensive range of Australian, US and UK models. Backing this up with a great range of scenery, buildings and all the equipment you need to build your layout. We have an extensive range of books and magazines on both model and full size railways. Mail order is a speciality. We are very close to the North Brighton railway station on the Sandringham line. (22 minutes from the city.) Our hours are: Monday to Thursday 10am to 6 pm, Friday 10am to 9pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday and public holidays 11am to 4pm. The group is also running a modelling demonstration desk where members will be working on models of various scales and prototypes. Please feel free to engage any of the group s members regarding any aspect of model railways. We are always happy to talk about our favourite pastime. Finally we have a display cabinet containing some of the Australian models owned by our members and again please feel free to ask about any of the models on display.

6 4. Two Rivers Tony Penstone "Two Rivers" is an American free lance railroad set in hilly terrain. It features a single line that winds it's torturous way around and amongst the hills, passing through several tunnels and over a variety bridges over the "Two Rivers" until it reaches a small passing station before winding its way back down the hills. The trick is to work out which tunnel the train will emerge from next. Each end of the layout leads into tunnels which go on to 'other places'. Two trains from opposite directions can meet at the small station and the pass on to other destinations. Two Rivers is Built and Operated by three generations of the Penstone Family. 54. cont. Battersea Power station on the south side of the Thames River dominates the scene, with the Houses of Parliament, St Paul s Cathedral and Tower Bridge visible in the distance. The suburban railways in this area were built in the 1860s, on long brick-arched bridges, so as not to impede traffic in areas that were already heavily populated. 5. G C Railway Still growing Starting a rebuild of this 42 year old home layout after the 2016 exhibition has produced a 10 metre increase of track length now making metres with 67 points and 57 sections. With no specific theme, other than as much WA and Australian rolling stock as I can, the 103 liveries allows many mixed working consists and eight road name setups. Three controllers allow for two main lines to operate while shunting is being carried out in the yard. Most of the features are scratch built with some being transplanted from the old system. Now there are many more spaces for new developments. The layout was born in 1974 with a Tyco starter kit from KMart. Rolling stock now totals 183 wagons and 26 locos. Graeme Chandler 55. HASKELL CO is a producer of model trains in several scales as well as other accessories like photographic backdrops. Haskell Co produced the first mass produced WAGR/Westail model to be released with the L class model and is also now releasing WAGR/Westrail freight wagons in HO scale. 56. BENNETT BROOK RAILWAY We will have our Stories From The Engine Shed on sale also copies of Lakes And Rails. 7. WestRail Models specializes in producing accurate high quality models of West Australian Rolling stock, Locomotives and Buildings Is "Sn3/15" supposed to be "S Scale" or "Sn3½ Scale" and HO Scale. Our stall will have examples of items in production on display and for sale. 57. BRENTON (BEN) HUMPHRYS New and second hand engines, carriages, scenery, accessories and track.

7 8. Bencubbin in 1962 This is a S Scale layout, Bencubbin is located on the line between Wyalkatchem and Mukinbudin and in the marginal rainfall area receiving an average of 250mm each year. Broad acre farming for wheat, barley and oats and at this time a lot of sheep. Trains travelled through Wyalkatchem to Mukinbudin on Mon, Wed and Friday and returned overnight or the next day. The Line was only light weight ie. 45lb/ft and locomotives were of the 10 ton axle loading type. You will see a variety of Steam and Diesel locomotives of the era along with a large collection of rolling stock. All locomotives and rolling stock are hand made either by scratch building or from kits made locally. The layout is operated with DCC control and some of the locomotives have features such as lights and sound. Experience the nostalgia of the past. 52. TWO SIDES Since moving to Busselton I found I haven t got the space to build a large layout so decided to build small units that will fit together and this is the first one. A Tram track will be on the high level and the start of a yard/station area on the lower level. Come back next year and see how far I have progressed. 54. Battersea Bridge is an imagined suburban station just south of the City of London, modelled in OO scale or 1:76. The period is around 1980, when British Rail operated most of the UK rail system, and railway goods yards were still commonplace. The painted back scene depicts London s skyline at the time, as seen by a train passenger travelling in from Kent or Sussex. 9. AMRA WA - LARGE SCALE GROUP For this year s exhibition, the Large Scale Group's layout continues with its rebuild and modernisation. We have continued with track upgrade and electrification of point switching. There will be 3 tracks able to be run constantly with many bays for Live steam Locomotives to be made ready, and sidings to store both locomotives and rolling stock of electrically powered trains as well. The track Gauge is 45mm but there is a varying size of locomotive scales running on it from The smallest gauge 1 at 1:32 up to our largest at 1:20. The inner track also has a third rail which can enable the running of 32mm gauge locomotives. There will be a diverse range of locomotives, carriages and wagons running American and British outline in steam and diesel. As well as tunnel and cuttings to add to the scenery, We have a Bridge Diorama with a trestle bridge, built by, and dedicated to, one of our late members which has a plaque with his name on it. There will also be a lake with a large hand built steam tug paddle steamer Fantasy this year. Thomas and Percy will make an appearance along with Clarence, Annabelle, and of course those troublesome trucks! Be sure to visit our stand and ask our friendly operators any questions you may have about our Large Scale 'big trains'.

8 10. HALTWHISTLE is the oldest layout in the club it was started in 1981 It has been improved over the years to make it more easier to operate. This year the team have improved the scenery and put up facia lighting. The layout is set somewhere in North Yorkshire England Tom Stokes Layout Supervisor Haltwhistle 11. CASTLEDARE MINIATURE RAILWAYS Static display of miniature railway equipment and information. Castledare Miniature Railways provides miniature train rides through the scenic Wilson Wetlands Conservation area. Open to the public on the 1st Sunday of each month from Niana Station, Castledare Place Wilson and from Wilson Park Station, Kent St. Wilson (Kent St Weir) on the 3rd Sunday of each month. From the vantage point of the trains, you can enjoy the wildlife that inhabits the area, as well as the sight, sound and smell of real coal fired steam locomotives. Entry to the grounds is free at both locations, use of the facilities at Niana Station are free and at Kent St as per council. On display is a selection of equipment from Castledare, don't hesitate to ask our members any questions you may have, new members are always welcome. 12. BWT COLLECTABLES Tim Mackintosh BWT Collectables have a large range of second hand HO/OO model railway items from locos, wagons, coaches and scenic accessories. We also have available lots of spare parts including motors, wheels, bodies etc suitable for repairs, maintenance and upgrading of your models. We also have some "O" gauge and "N" gauge items, some are very collectable. See how we can help you with your model railway requirements. 47. TRAMCRAFT Model O-scale tram and trolleybus layout an oval within an oval for each type of model vehicle. My display has its own legs. 48. CHAPEL STREET Two concentric racetracks on baseboard, shown in continuous line. One rail-track straight and curved at a 90 degree angle on a raised overpass or viaduct. 49. PERTH ELECTRIC TRAMWAY SOCIETY We are the operators of the heritage tramway in Whiteman Park. The operation includes trams From Perth, Fremantle and Melbourne. The trams operate four days a week plus all school holidays. Work days are mainly Wednesday but also some Saturday's for track work. THOMAS AND FRIENDS is back again concentrating on the characters from the original first 3 seasons from the 1980s, although some later characters can be seen. There are various items of interest for viewers to look for, these are described on the can you find posters attached to the front of the layout There are two boards, one containing a large station, coaling and water facilities. One board contains models manufactured by Hornby models, consisting of the first seven characters plus Emily. At various intervals what happens to an engine when it has finished its journey will be demonstrated. On the second board are the characters manufactured by Bachmann pulling trains associated from the original series, once again there will be information available explaining the formation of the train and what happened in the episode. Please note occasionally the same character may be seen on both boards. If you require any information please ask, time permitting we will be only too happy to talk to you. Neil and Matthew 51. HOTHAM VALLEY RAILWAY Display and sale of souvenirs whilst promoting the activities and membership of Hotham Valley Railway.

9 44. KARRAGULLEN This SN3½ layout built by Kelvin Davis is true to scale, including in length, whilst staying within the Class 24 rules (a layout under 24 sq ft). The layout took 4 years to build with much of the time taken in research. Initially a year was spent constructing rolling stock and locomotives, which are a combination of kit built and scratch built units. More units are being constructed, with the latest wagons being 3D printed. Karragullen was the end of the Upper Darling Range Railway, which included the well -known zig zag up to Kalamunda. The line opened in 1912 and closed in The period depicted is circa Kelvin painted the name Karragullen in the back scene in both Morse code and Semaphore. Can you see it? WEST COAST REMOTE CONTROL TRUCKS We are a club based in Perth that started out just a group of friends with a common interest in 1/14 th scale remote control model trucks and the buildings, construction machinery and other associated equipment to go with them. Nowadays we also have a lot of other items just for entertainment purposes or to support our main display item. Our membership ranges from young to old, both male and female and membership is open to anyone who is interested in getting out and having fun as we travel around WA with putting on displays at rural and agricultural shows, motor shows or just the events in Perth. Our models start out as a basic kit that needs to be assembled and painted, some are even built from scratch, from there they get the personalised touch to make them into what we want them to be whether that is a standard vehicle or something more outrageous! 14. LEGO CITY 45. MURGATROYD JUNCTION 46. ANSBACH started out as being a layout built by Bill Pigeon back in the 1990s. The name of the layout was then The Ansbach Branch. It was a period German layout set somewhere in Saxe-Coburg, sometime in the first decade of the last century. The place was chosen as it was an area where both Bavarian and Prussian Locomotives can be seen together. Bill had to down size. He donated the original layout to AMRA WA. After many years, it was starting to look tired so it was decided to upgrade the scenery and rail to give it a new lease of life. The layout is not complete and it has been brought to the exhibition so you can see a layout being built and be able to see what can go into it and how things are done. The operators of the layout are more than willing to answer your questions to the best of their knowledge. So, don t be afraid to ask. 15. KENDALLSHIRE A LEGO city complete with roads, fully ballasted train lines, a hill with buildings, train tunnels, trams, a river, lots to see and lots of running trains. A special "magic" train drives under the hill and transforms into a multi colours train that suits the "Friends" (Girls side) does a lap around the display and returns to the hill to transform back into a standard coloured train to travel around the "City" end (Boys side) We also offer children an opportunity to build and play. We will be selling shirts and Lego Minifigs. There will be a raffle for a Lego set. There are many different ways that have been adopted on this layout to show that there are other ways of achieving the result you want.

Durham Town, Ozzy Gully, Medley, Inglenook O Scale, Shapcott Lane HO Scale, West Track Shunt N Scale. 41. e-trains Selling Model railway accessories 42. Z Gauge Layout (~⅓ size of HO/OO at 1:220) The setting is a fairly busy mainline station in a fictional location in Germany in no particular period, but after 1932 when the last infill houses in the Neuestadt (new town) were completed. Several older houses were lost, not without protest, when the town bypass was pushed through between the Station & the Neuestadt. The Altstadt (old town) and fire station are reached via the bridge on the left. The drivers on the roads can get into trouble as much as anyone anywhere, while the social cyclists don t much like the zig zag road - well, not going up at least. There is a branch line, with a spur which climbs into the mountains - the trains dropping off and picking up sightseers, hikers, climbers, speleologists (cave explorers) and the occasional artist enroute. Freight traffic is sometimes seen while steam running periodically alternates with diesel power on all lines. Electrification may be coming, but the only sign is a small stack of catenary poles in the station yard. 20. ADVICE CENTRE Is there to help you about the exhibition and any general queries. MEOWINGTONS JUNCTION Measuring 1830mm x 1230mm we have an OO scale layout based originally on the Hornby entry level Track Mat design included with the Flying Scotsman passenger set. We expanded the layout with several of the standard expansion packs before using the Anyrail PC software to custom design a layout and squeeze as much track as we could into the table dimensions. We have also added a diesel freight set to the rolling stock and added a second power source so we can run two trains simultaneously. 43. Rockford & Harts Landing A HO scale representation of Midwest USA railroading set in the early diesel era that demonstrates the high quality of modelling from the US Model RR Club of WA. Away from the transcontinental class 1 railroads life runs a little slower, the crews take their time getting the job done.

11 38. NONSUCH an HO/OO scale layout by the FREMANTLE and DISTRICTS MODEL RAILWAY ASSOCIATION. Nonsuch layout is a typical English scenic display consisting of two mainline tracks, a branch line and a town tram, all automatically controlled. There are two shunting yards that are manually operated. The town has a tram operating from the main station to the church. At the church there is a wedding departing, a fair with a White Elephant stall and a graveyard complete with tombstones. A fire truck is at one of the town houses that is on fire, whilst at the hilltop ruin an artist is sketching whilst absailors climb the cliff. The main line station is backed by a power station into which fully laden coal trucks are delivered and empty trucks being returned to the coal mine. Around the layout you should be able to see a farm house scene, scout camp, coal mine, an accident at the level crossing, a marina with a long bridge over the entrance and a branchline with a shunting yard in operation. The layout is for sale any reasonable offers will be considered. Ultimately we wanted to showcase a layout that can be constructed on a small budget and tight dimensions. Our layout is labelled Meowingtons Junction as co-owner Livvie (age 10) has combined two of her favourite things - trains and cats! We will have several cats hidden about on the layout and exhibition goers will be challenged to try and locate them all. NOTE - our layout is still under construction. We anticipate having it at least to an exhibition-ready stage by time of the show. 23. WEST AUSTRALIAN MINIATURISTS ASSOCIATION Imagine a hobby that can transport you to another time and place. Imagine not only reliving the fantasies of your childhood but enacting stories told by grandparents, creating a moment in time inspired by a play or a song or a page from your favourite book. This is a hobby limited only by your imagination. Welcome to the world of miniatures. Feel like Gulliver gazing into a diminutive Lilliputian window as you look into a dollhouse window at the time interior. This fascinating hobby is enjoying popularity throughout the world. It s a hobby that encompasses many arts and crafts such as woodworking, dressmaking, knitting, cross stich, embroidery, painting, printing or playing with clay, just to name a few. Dollhouse miniatures are not only the domain of young children mimicking their elders but is an absorbing hobby enjoyed by talented artists and collectors worldwide. Featuring the Trans Continental line between Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie, showing some of the communities in-between. 24. FRED RANCE TRAIN PAINTINGS a trade stand featuring paintings i have done over the past years and recent ones also of trains from England, eastern states and mostly local trains Freight and passenger themes from WAGR and Westrail PTA, CBH, most are painted on canvas hard boards 30x40cm in acrylic paints 25. TRAIN RIDE Enjoy a train ride on the new ride that will give you different views of the exhibition.

12 26. NORTON STATION FITZGERALD This modular layout is presented by the Albany Model Railway Assoc. INC. The scenes depicted on this layout are mostly rural Australia. In Memory of our late member Mr Bruce Norton the station has being named in his honour. Mr Norton passed away on the 4 th April 2017 and was well known in the model railway hobby. The standard Modules are 2200mm long by 600mm wide and stand at 1100mm of the ground. These are made out of 9mm ply as this makes them light weight and easy to cart around. The Albany Model Railway welcomes visitors and new members to visit our clubrooms in the Old Bond Store, on the eastern end of the railway platform Albany. For more info go to LINESIDE MODEL RAILWAY SERVICES is a new business that is solely focused on the Model Railway scene where we provide services from DCC sound and decoder installations to Weathering services and parts sourcing to layout fault-finding and servicing. We are always adding to the services that we provide and will be looking into baseboard building and custom trees. At our show stand see examples of our weathering and sound fitted locomotives along with weathering demonstrations and scenery building. We will also have a service station for locomotives needing a service at the show and on hand advice for those getting into the hobby. MAYLANDS MECCANO & HOBBIES CLUB INC The exhibition comprises a range of models large and small all constructed from Meccano. Some models are owned and built by individual club members and others are built from club owned parts by club members. Some models are from current sets available in the shops, some from past sets while others are from independent model plans and parts from personal collections. The Tricky Track layout includes both new and previously displayed mechanisms. 36. cont. LIONEL TRAINS The Lionel Trains exhibited are part of a collection which started in1946 when my Father purchased the Steam Engine for my first birthday. During my childhood I added to the collection a few pieces every year. When the family moved to Australia the train set was put in storage for many years and finally set up after I retired. The Lionel train display is an O gauge three track, 1/48 scale. A Working / Moving Train Set The layout features four moving/working cars: A working coal loader dispensing coal into a coal car. The milkman throwing milk cans onto the loading dock The barrel man rolling the barrels on to the platform. The horses being loaded into the stock car. The layout is 1.2M x 2.4M Watch as the cars load and unload the cargo.
