As most of you probably have heard, one of our local modelers, member, presenter and friend passed away on Christmas day. John R. Randy Brooke, was born on March 7,1944 in Martinez, California. John loved Trout fishing in the Sierra s and model railroading, especially the Southern Pacific and Westside Lumber Company. A memorial service was celebrated on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 in Owasso, Oklahoma that was attended by many of his railroading friends. John will be missed by all. I want to thank each and every one of you for either attending a meeting, giving a presentation or opening up your layout for us to see (and some have done all three!). I hope the enthusiasm and interest in participation continues this next year. I d like to get some new individuals involved in presentations at the meetings. Also looking for layouts in the beginning stages of being built. There are those that are new to the hobby that would like to see how it is constructed from the beginning without the facia and scenery. See you at the meeting! The eight model railroaders who come to operate the KCT are divided into four two-person crews.

3 Come take a look at the layout after the meeting from 1-4pm Maps will be available at the meeting (Also the Claremore and Southern will be open, it s only 1 mile away, they have a redesigned engine facility) It s 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, 1980 the last weekend before the Frisco was absorbed into the Burlington Northern. The eight model railroaders who come to operate the KCT are divided into four two-person crews. One crew will be hired by the Santa Fe, one by the Frisco, one by the Kansas City Southern, and one by the Missouri Pacific. During the 3.5 hour operating session each crew will switch industries along their railroad, provide customer service moves at grain elevators, and interchange interline freight cars with the other three trunk lines. As an additional dimension, each crew will be provided with a description of the corporate culture of the railroad they work for and will be asked to adopt that persona during the session. Jim s KCT represents 4 1/2 miles of railroads in the West and East Bottoms of Kansas City. Industries names and locations are prototypically accurate. Car forwarding is done by handwritten switch lists as it was in The railroad is 660 square feet in size and consumes a couple of rooms on the second floor of the family house in Claremore. Locomotives Sound in half of fleet. Erailhobbies - By Victor Pinamonti Erailhobbies is a Model Railroad hobby shop that specializes in DCC products but is not limited to only DCC. Erailhobbies stocks parts, scenery, supplies, locomotives, rolling stock, and most things that people look for in a train hobby shop. We are located on the West side of town and we are looking at a move to a larger place in order to serve more people in the hobby, but we will remain in Tulsa. We can install DCC, repair, and refurbish trains, in addition to our retail store. We carry Soundtraxx, Digitrax, NCE, LokSound, Train Control Systems, DCC Specialties, QSI Solutions, and Lenz products for DCC. We are a Walthers five star dealer, as well as Intermountain, T55 Products, Overland Products, Atlas, Broadway Limited, Precision Craft, Precision Scale, Kadee, Rapido, Boswer/Stewart, and Branchline are among a few of the brands that we carry. We will soon carry Rivarossi, Hornby, Athearn, Roundhouse, and we are always expanding our product line. Our philosophy is to cater to the model railroader's varied needs and maintain a very competitive price that Wal-Mart would be proud/scared of. In addition to the business at the store, erailhobbies has a following in Europe, Asia, Australia, and Canada that allows you to take advantage of volume discounts. Where some look at list price to determine the price offered to their customers, we base our price on the cost of the item to us and fight for those special discounts to pass on to our customers. We understand what we look for as customers and follow that Golden Rule. Right now we stock primarily HO scale, but in a larger location we will stock G and Z scale, and we normally stock our specialty manufactured items of accessory lights and figures in all scales G to Z. We can order just about anything that allows a dealer to order. If we aren't set up with them we will get set up with them.

That old Revell kit that has been around for what seems forever was the starting point of this structure. Rich kept talking about all the faults or errors in the building, honestly, I think he was pulling our leg as the building was terrific. Most of us would just hope that our mistakes or errors came out like that! He was short a wall section, so he made a wood wall, add miscellaneous details and pipes, and a good coat of weathering. 5 More November Highlights An O scale Engine House - Ed Bommer Ed described his newest O scale engine house that he has finished. Being O scale it is quite large and heavy, so instead of bringing it he had numerous photo s to show its construction. Not only did Ed talk about his engine house, he also talked about a turntable that he completely reworked into a really nice looking turntable. We got a glimpse of his layout showing some of the bridges and scenery that is in place and what some of his future plans are. Why specific structures were selected - Tom Fausser Tom Fausser talked abut the buildings on his layout and why he chose them and some of the books he used for reference. He had several photo s of prototype inspiration and several of his layout that shows how he captured the feel for the structures. He also brought one of his large kitbashed structures and talked about how he combined 3 kits to make one which can be seen in the show and tell section of the newsletter. 6 A new technique for bricks - Tony Burgess Tony described how he uses Sculpey to make scale bricks. First you press the flattened Sculpey into a textured rock. Then place it on a cookie sheet and heat in the oven per instruction and let cool. With a bandsaw cut into strips of desired brick height, say 3/16 or so. Cut strips into stone forms about 3/8 or so. Square off any badly cut stones with a file or X-acto blade. Use smooth Chip Board Raw Material for wall backer (.040 thick), and cut the chip board to the size of wall you wish to build. He also uses this material for building a roof foundation. You can see the images below how he frames doors & windows, glues the bricks, colors and weather them.
