4 What is Core Monitoring? Core Monitoring extends the amount of core information available to the operators and reactor engineers. Core Monitoring acquires measured data from the plant computer and uses that data as inputs for core analyis software. The core analysis software provides 3D and scalar computed results as printed text or via a GUI

20 Usage Notes As at the plant, GARDEL-SIM is a triggered, batch mode evaluation. A GARDEL-SIM evaluation takes 30 to 60 sec, similar to the plant. GARDEL-SIM executes on its own PC on the same network as the simulator PC. GARDEL-SIM maintains its own ICs and backtracks on that PC. Simulator commands are transmitted via sockets.

21 Usage Notes The data packet is a simple ASCII file. A CASMO/SIMULATE core model is required. The result is dependent on the quality of the simulator core model.

23 Summary Core Monitoring provides important plant information by supplementing instrumentation with calculations. Core Monitoring in the simulator control room is now practical using conventional hardware, networking and software. Fidelity to the plant is increased. Core Monitoring generates and preserves detailed core data for study and analysis.
