The Group achieved another year of commendable results, crossing the threshold of over RM1 billion in profit before tax for the first time in our history. This certainly marks a milestone that all Bousteadians should be proud of, as this is an achievement which all of you contributed to. Moreover, despite heightened competition and economic headwinds, all of our Divisions contributed positively to our bottom line. This was led by the Plantation Division, which registered record high earnings on the back of gains realised from the disposal of plantation land. This was followed by our Trading & Industrial Division, along with solid performances by the rest of our Divisions. This clearly reflects the strength of our diversified nature, which allows the Group to continue delivering results even amidst challenging conditions. On the back of this exceptional performance, we are confident we will be able to maintain our momentum, particularly with the strategic plans which we have in place. Coupled with our strong foundation, the Group is well-positioned to tap into growth prospects and opportunities throughout our core businesses. Without a doubt, our success thus far would not have been possible if not for the hard work and dedicated efforts of our skilled workforce. While the coming year will certainly have its obstacles, we are positive that our highly capable talent pool will be able to propel the Group forward. As we move ahead, we urge all Bousteadians to continue to do their utmost to realise our goals and work as a team to deliver results. Together, I am confident that we will be able to achieve another year of growth for the Group. Perutusan Timbalan Pengerusi/ Pengarah Urusan Kumpulan Staf Boustead yang dihargai, Kita telah memulakan tahun 2018 dengan baik sekali di mana kita telah mencatatkan rekod bagi keputusan tahun kewangan Kumpulan mencapai satu lagi tahun dengan keputusan yang membanggakan, di mana keuntungan sebelum cukai telah melangkaui paras RM1 bilion buat kali pertama dalam sejarah kita. Ini sememangnya merupakan satu kejayaan yang patut dibanggakan oleh semua staf Boustead kerana pencapaian ini merupakan hasil sumbangan anda semua. Tambahan pula, meskipun persaingan semakin meningkat dan ekonomi yang bergolak, kesemua Bahagian telah menyumbang secara positif kepada keuntungan kita. Bahagian Perladangan menerajui dengan mencatatkan rekod bagi pendapatan menerusi keuntungan yang diperolehi daripada pelupusan tanah perladangan. Ini diikuti oleh Bahagian Perdagangan & Perindustrian serta prestasi kukuh dari Bahagian-bahagian yang lain. Semua ini jelas mencerminkan betapa kuatnya ciri kepelbagaian kita, yang membolehkan Kumpulan terus mencatatkan keputusan yang baik walaupun dalam situasi yang mencabar. Di sebalik prestasi yang luar biasa ini, kita yakin dapat mengekalkan momentum kita, khususnya melalui rancangan strategik sedia ada kita. Tambahan pula, melalui asas kita yang kukuh, Kumpulan berada dalam kedudukan yang baik untuk memanfaatkan prospek dan peluang pertumbuhan bagi keseluruhan perniagaan teras kita. Kejayaan kita sejauh ini tidak mungkin dapat dicapai tanpa kerja keras dan usaha berterusan daripada tenaga kerja mahir kita. Tan Sri Lodin leading the pledge together with senior management of Boustead Group On 8 January 2018, Boustead Holdings Berhad (Boustead) took a stand in the fight against corruption, as the Group and its subsidiary companies signed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission s (MACC) Corruption-Free Pledge. Over 600 people comprising top management and staff of Boustead Group attended the signing ceremony at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur. Led by YBhg. Tan Sri Dato Seri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, Boustead s Deputy Chairman/Group Managing Director, all those present took an oath to shoulder the responsibility of the Corruption- Free Pledge and combat corruption at all levels of the organisation. This was followed by a signing of the pledge by the principal officers of the Bousteadians undertaking the anti-corruption pledge Group s various subsidiaries. The ceremony was witnessed by YBhg. Dato Shamsun Baharin Mohd Jamil, MACC s Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention). Boustead s participation in MACC s Corruption-Free Pledge is a reflection of its commitment to ensure good corporate governance and uphold the Group s core values of respect, integrity, teamwork and excellence, as well as supporting the Government s call to cultivate a corruption-free nation. 3 4 5 Boustead welcomes its first female Director on the Board Majlis Penerimaan KD MAHAWANGSA Boustead Holdings Berhad (Boustead) welcomes YBhg. Datuk Zainun Aishah Ahmad, who joined its Board of Directors on 1 December A graduate from University Malaya in Economics, Datuk Zainun had an illustrious career during her 35 years with the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), the Malaysian Government s principal agency for the promotion and coordination of industrial development in the country. She was the Deputy Director-General of MIDA from 1986 to 1995 and Director- General for 11 years from 1995 to September During her years of service, Datuk Zainun held various key positions in several strategic Government councils. Notably, she held the pivotal role of National Project Director in the formulation of the first Malaysian Industrial Master Plan. Since her retirement from Government service, Datuk Zainun has served on the boards of DeGem Berhad, British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad, Berjaya Food Berhad and is Chairman of Scomi Engineering Berhad and Pernec Corporation Berhad. With her experience in both the public and private sectors, Boustead is proud to welcome Datuk Zainun Aishah Ahmad as the first female Director on the Board. Zulhazri Razali, Pharmaniaga s Commercial Director, was presented with the prestigious award by YBhg. Dato Hj. Faizul Arby Mohd Shohor, Political Secretary to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, during a glamorous event at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur. The award recognised Pharmaniaga s achievements in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly for its high quality products and services as well as excellent employee engagement. Held from 6 to 7 February 2018, ROSE KL 2018 featured a line-up of corporate highflyers, top talents and personalities from corporations in various fields, ranging from sports and medicine to academia and social activism. On 24 to 25 February 2018, Boustead Holdings Berhad (Boustead) participated in the Skim Latihan 1Malaysia (SL1M) Open Interview Programme 2018 Peringkat Zon Tengah, held at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang. The event was officiated by YAB Prime Minister Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak. Over 55,000 visitors attended the event, which saw more than 15,000 job opportunities on offer. Two of the Group s listed subsidiaries, Pharmaniaga Berhad and Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad, were present as exhibitors as well. Seterusnya, ahli rombongan telah dijamu dengan pelbagai makanan tempatan pada majlis makan malam di Restoran Tamrab Muslim. Majlis telah dimeriahkan dengan aktiviti cabutan bertuah. Rombongan diteruskan dengan melawat Asean Night Market yang terkenal sebagai pasar malam terbesar di daerah tersebut yang menyediakan pelbagai barangan dan makanan tempatan. Kakitangan KTM sedang memberi taklimat sebelum perjalanan bermula Lawatan dimulakan dengan melawat Bee Farm iaitu pembekal madu terbesar di Thailand. Ahli rombongan telah diberikan penerangan tentang proses mendapatkan Khusyuk mendengar taklimat daripada pemilik Bee Farm, Mr. Tan Senja di Pasar Terapung Khlong Hae Ahli rombongan mengambil kesempatan melakukan last minute shopping di sekitar bandar Hat Yai sebelum bertolak pulang dengan menaiki ETS. Lawatan yang dianjurkan pada kali ini sangat menarik kerana ia menggunakan pengangkutan ETS Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad. Ahli rombongan telah berpeluang menikmati pemandangan yang indah dan selesa sepanjang lima jam perjalanan ke Stesen Padang Besar, Perlis. Ini merupakan pengalaman yang baru dan menarik bagi setiap ahli rombongan. madu dan berpeluang merasai madu yang telah diproses. 6 10 11 BHIC holds Townhall 2018 Boustead Plantations organises workshop for Senior Managers and Managers On 12 & 13 February 2018, Boustead Plantations Berhad (Boustead Plantations) organised a workshop themed Mechanisation - The Way Forward for Estate and Mill Senior Managers and Managers at Royale Chulan Damansara. The key objective of this two-day programme was to identify and address factors restricting the adoption of machines and related technologies, in order for the management team to overcome labour inadequacy in estates and mechanise operations effectively. Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli with the senior management team at the Townhall He cautioned that while BHIC should be pleased with the contracts at hand, there is much to be done to ensure its business sustainability and to secure new projects from parties other than Government sources, including exploring regional prospects. To achieve this, Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli called upon the staff to close ranks and work hard towards improving productivity and efficiency to deliver superior products and services. In this regard, he lauded the efforts of BHIC AeroServices Sdn. Bhd. and Pyrotechnical Ordnance Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. to expand their business beyond the local market. The first day began with a presentation by the Estate Regional General Managers and Deputy Group Engineer. This was followed by a poster presentation before breaking for lunch. The programme continued in the afternoon with a presentation by the Estate and Mill Managers, based on the topics provided. The next morning started with a group photography session, followed by a Corruption-Free Pledge by all managers. The pledge was led by Tn. Hj. Tan Sri Dato Seri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, Deputy Chairman/Group Managing Director of Boustead Holdings Berhad; En. Fahmy Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of Boustead Plantations and Mr. Low Koo Khoon, Head of Integrity. The workshop concluded with a prize giving ceremony for the Best Poster Presentation. The team from Telok Sengat Estate emerged as the winner, followed by the teams from LTT Sabah Estate (first runner-up) and G&G Estate (second runner-up). Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli delivering his speech Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad (BHIC) held its Townhall 2018 on 24 January 2018 at Boustead Learning District, Level 7, Menara Boustead, which was attended by 150 employees. The Townhall provides a platform for BHIC staff to share their thoughts and recommendations, as well as engaging the management directly. Kicking off the Townhall, BHIC s Managing Director, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato Seri Ahmad Ramli Hj. Mohd Nor reviewed BHIC s performance for 2017 and outlined his expectations for the employees in Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli also reminded the staff to adhere to BHIC s core values and focus on areas of self-improvement to help elevate their performance, and thus contribute further to the company s success. In closing his remarks, he stressed that to propel BHIC to greater heights, just being good is not good enough, and called upon the staff to work harder and smarter in 2018 and to be prepared for another challenging year. Following this, a Q&A session was held. Several employees took the opportunity to pose questions to the top management. Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli addressed all questions and matters raised and ended by emphasising the need for everyone to ask themselves what more they could contribute to the organisation, encouraging all to go the extra mile to enhance the company s performance. Visitors to the mall were blown away as the Curve s Centre Court was transformed into a lush, heavenly mountaintop. A gentle fog carpeting the area created the illusion of being high up in the clouds, with a pristine water feature streaming downwards. Surrounding the area were red lanterns, sweet cherry blossoms and other flora in a variety of pastel-coloured petals, lending a serene presence for all to enjoy. Amidst this calming backdrop, the cascading melodies of the Curve s Lady of Spring Dance Musical perfectly heralded the A myriad of exciting performances awaited visitors to the Curve aside from the live musical. In addition to the well-loved Traditional Lion Dance, visitors enjoyed a shot of adrenaline as the Acrobatic Lion Dance troupe added daring stunts to their show. Lending a touch of nostalgia, an Elegant Chinese Instrumental Orchestra featuring traditional Chinese instruments performed a variety of Chinese New Year classics. In the spirit of togetherness and joy, ecurve treated senior citizens from Rumah Orang Tua Seri Setia to a heart-warming celebration. The group of 20 old folks and their caretakers were greeted by members of ecurve s Management team with warm smiles as they arrived and ushered to the mall s Centre Atrium for the festivities. Rounding off a series of performance, an acrobatic lion dance troupe wowed the esteemed guests with a variety of exhilarating stunts as they swayed, hopped and darted across poles. Pelepasan peserta untuk memulakan kayuhan telah disempurnakan oleh Dr. Sundrasan Muthoo selaku Pengerusi Lions Club of Sitiawan. Para peserta memulakan kayuhan pada pukul 8:30 pagi di SMK Methodist (A.C.S), Sitiawan dan berakhir di tempat yang sama. Jarak kayuhan basikal yang dilalui ialah sejauh 13 kilometer. Sebelum program tamat, para peserta telah diberikan sijil penyertaan daripada pihak penganjur sebagai tanda penghargaan. Sesungguhnya, penyertaan BN Shipyard dalam aktiviti seumpama ini akan mendekatkan lagi hubungan antara BN Shipyard dengan masyarakat setempat. DCCK 2018 was officially launched on RTM s Selamat Pagi Malaysia segment on 9 February The 20-episode programme airs from 9 February to the end of March 2018, scheduled at 7:50pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Viewers can also watch repeats daily at 6:00pm during the fasting month. Para peserta memulakan kayuhan Seramai sembilan orang kakitangan Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. (BN Shipyard) telah menyertai program Go Green 4 (Cycling for Physical Wellness) daripada jumlah keseluruhan peserta 80 orang yang dianjurkan oleh Lions Club of Sitiawan. Turut hadir memberi sokongan ialah Pn. Sumathi Sangaran, Ketua Unit Perhubungan Awam BN Shipyard. Program yang diadakan pada 10 Mac 2018 ini bertujuan untuk menggalakkan gaya hidup sihat dan aktif dalam kalangan ahli kelab dan masyarakat Cabaran Memancing KKBNS 2018 Sabar menanti umpan pancing dimakan ikan Kelab Kakitangan Boustead Naval Shipyard (KKBNS) telah menganjurkan satu pertandingan Cabaran Memancing KKBNS 2018 pada 11 Februari Seramai 70 orang kakitangan Syarikat telah mengambil bahagian dalam pertandingan ini yang diadakan di persisiran laut berhadapan kafeteria Boustead Naval Shipyard. Kakitangan BN Shipyard menunjukkan sijil penyertaan masing-masing Setelah mempamerkan kehebatan memancing, akhirnya johan pertandingan telah dinobatkan kepada En. Rosli bin Puteh dari Jabatan Pembinaan Baharu dengan hasil tangkapan seberat 2.30 kilogram. Tempat kedua dan ketiga masing-masing dimenangi oleh En. Mohd Azhar bin Othman dan En. Mohamad Hafiz bin Sahak dari Jabatan Pembinaan Baharu. Mereka berjaya menaikkan hasil tangkapan masingmasing-masing seberat 2.28 kilogram dan 1.47 kilogram. Acara yang bermula pada pukul 9:00 pagi dan berakhir pada pukul 1:00 tengah hari itu telah menawarkan hadiah berupa wang tunai sehingga tempat ke-15 kepada para pemenang. Pertandingan telah dirasmikan oleh Pn. Nurmasitah bt. Mohamad Hamsusah, Ketua Jabatan Pengurusan Modal Insan dan Pentadbiran. Selain itu, acara turut dimeriahkan dengan kehadiran Pn. Bhd. (BBM) organised a luncheon for all staff at its headquarters on 1 March This was part of BBM s ongoing commitment towards enhancing employee engagement by creating opportunities for employees to connect with their colleagues, superiors and the organisation. This event was also aimed at cultivating an environment which motivates and incentivises employees, which ultimately drives performance and productivity. The luncheon kicked off with group photos, as everyone was dressed in their best red attire to commemorate the auspicious occasion. We then had a birthday celebration for staff born from January to March, singing the happy birthday song and wishing them happiness and success. The highlight of the event was tossing the Yee Sang. Those familiar with the tradition know that it is a fun activity to usher in Chinese New Year. After combining all the ingredients, we armed ourselves with chopsticks and tossed the salad up in the air. It is said that the higher Birthday boys and girls blowing out the candles of their birthday cake the salad is tossed, the greater the chances of wishes coming true. We were all smiles during the activity, calling out our dreams and aspirations for the year. The table was a mess after, but that did not stop us from partaking in the lucky salad. We made sure to eat everything on our plates - from the chewy jellyfish to the crispy crackers. We did not leave a single crumb behind. We then continued with the main course, with dishes such as Pineapple Fried Rice, Mongolian Chicken and Ginger Fish, among others. Judging from the satisfied faces of the staff, the luncheon was enjoyed by all.
