Today we will pick you up early in the morning and drive 1.5 hrs southeast of the city of Merida to the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza. The name of Chichen Itza comes from the Mayan words: Chi (Mouth), Chen (hole or well) and Itza (Itza people). All together, these Mayan words means "At the mouth of the Well of the Itza people". The visit will be leaded by an expert and knowledgeable guide, who will explain in detail about the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the way of living of the Mayan people. Explore the main buildings of this ceremonial city standing as the masterpiece the Pyramid of Kukulkan, the largest and most important ceremonial building in the ancient city. Walk over a "Sac beh" or white path used for ceremonial purposes to get to the Sacred Cenote, used for the worship of Chaac, the Mayan god of rain. This cenote was also considered by the Mayans as an entrance to the underworld. In Chichen Itza you will also visit the Temple of the Thousand Columns, The Observatory, The Ball Court, other not at all less important buildings. First we will visit Uxmal ruins, one of the most popular ancient mayan cities. Uxmal in maya means three times built. Here the guide will explain in depth the Puuc architect style of buildings such as the Nun's Quadrangle, the Ball court, the Turtle House and the Governor Palace. This Puuc style stand as a highly decorative and detailed one. It own its name to the Puuc hills located in the region. The Governor Palace is the most famous structure in Uxmal because it is the best example of the Puuc Style. It had been renowed as the most beautiful building in Mesoamerica After our Uxmal tour you will explore the archeological site of Kabah, Mayan name wich means lord of a strong hand. Kabah is linked to Uxmal by a sacbeh" or white road used for ceremonial purposes. Kabah is one of the stops of the Puuc Route and here you can find many structures with carved masks of the God Chaac, the important god of rain for the Mayans. Due to the absence of cenotes in this region Mayans had to build their own cisterns and prayed for rain to his God. Then, a private guided tour of the site begins at the Great Plaza, the heart of Chichen Itza. Visiting the Ball Game Court, the Temple of the Jaguars, the famous Temple (pyramid) of God KuKulcan, the Tzompantli Platform, the Temple of the Warriors or Temple of The One Thousand Columns. DAY 05: CHICHEN ITZA (Tour to Ek Balam-Rio Lagartos pink flamingo reserve) INC: B/L After breakfast, we will depart to the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula via the magnificent site of Ek Balam to Rio Lagartos on the Mexican Gulf coast. Ek Balam is one of the most mysterious cities ever discovered. Its main temple features a Jaw of jaguar with delicate stucco relieve and feathered sculptures. At arriving to Rio Lagartos, we will take a wonderful boat ride through the mangroves to visit the feeding ground of the beautiful pink flamingoes. A box lunch will be provided. Return to the hotel for a late afternoon at leisure. Overnight at the Hotel. DAY 06: CHICHEN ITZA / (City tour Izamal and Merida) / UXMAL INC: B/L/D After breakfast, we will depart to Merida calling at the colonial city of Izamal on the way, where we will visit the Convent of San Francisco de Padua, the central park, the regional market and the pyramid of Kinich Kakmo located downtown. Upon arrival in Merida, we will take a walking tour of the city center visiting the Zocalo or Main Square, site of the stately Cathedral; the Casa de Montejo, a 16th century home of Don Francisco de Montejo, the founder of the city; the City Hall and palace of the State Government. We will take a walking tour of the city market for authentic arts and crafts. Lunch is served at a typical Mexican restaurant where you will taste a sample of authentic local cuisine and listen to the serenades of strolling trovadores. We continue our walking tour to the church of Tercera Orden, a beautiful 17th century monastery; the Peon Contreras Theater and the University of Yucatan. We will then board a traditional horse-drawn carriage or Calesa for a ride to Paseo de Montejo and a visit to the Regional Museum of Anthropology and History. At the end of this visit, a deluxe vehicle tour around the Monument to the Nation and past the 19th century mansions on Paseo de Montejo and Avenida Colon concludes our city tour. We continue to Uxmal.

We will walk to the temples at Uxmal for a guided tour that includes the oval-shaped Magician s Pyramid; the Nun s Quadrangle with its magnificent friezes depicting the Mayan Rain God; the magnificent Palace of the Governor and the impressive Great Pyramid. Free afternoon for relaxing at the hotel where you can swim in our beautiful sparkling swimming pools or enjoy our spa. In the evening you are invited to attend the Uxmal light and sound show, staged nightly in the Nun s Quadrangle, Uxmal s central plaza. The music, dialogue and illumination take place in a magnificent setting and the event is an unforgettable introduction to the history and legends of the ancient city and the magnificent Puuc Mayan culture. DAY 08: UXMAL (Tour to Town of Becal and city of Campeche) INC: B/L/D Breakfast will be served at the hotel. We will take you to the village of Becal, famous for the Panama hats made by artisans who work in caves to preserve the quality of the palm fronds. Afterwards we shall proceed to the city of Campeche once a fortified Pirate haven. Here one of the United Nations World Heritage Sites, as are Chichen Itza and Uxmal. Enjoy a delicious seafood lunch at a local restaurant. We will do a walking city tour and visit a number of small museums and places of interest in this, Dinner and overnight at Hacienda Uxmal Hotel or The Lodge at Uxmal. DAY 09: UXMAL (Tour to Kabah Sayil- Ticul Labna Loltun) INC: B/L/D Depart from Uxmal after breakfast. First stop is Kabah where you will see the Codz Pop, a palace famous for its facade of 250 Chaac masks and statues of ancient rulers of the site; the Palace and the Arch of Kabah which marks the entrance to the Sacbe or linking path between Kabah and Uxmal. We will then visit Sayil, a very unique site in the land of the Maya for its gracious three-tiered palace: a labyrinth of 70 rooms adorned with columns and beautifully Chaac masks carved in stone. Labna is a lovely classical Puuc Maya village that among its temples of note we find The Palace and The Mirador. Minutes away are the town of Ticul, where the living Maya will show us the makings of their pottery and reproductions of ancient Mayan figurines. A box lunch will be provided along the way to the caves of Loltun, natural masterpieces with pre-maya engravings dating back over four thousand years as well as interesting geological formations and markings of The Yucatan Peninsula s resurgence from the sea in the Quaternary Era. Next to Loltun is the city of Tekax. We will visit a 17th century convent and fortress like chapel that is a silent testimony to Yucatan s turbulent past: Maya revolts against Spanish rule that resulted in the war of castes. You will be transferred in a scenic passing, through the front of some facades of beautiful historical downtown buildings, such as the Palace of Fine Arts, the House of tile, arriving to the heart of Mexico, with his majestic Arms Square "El Zócalo. You will be entered the National Palace to admire the macro mural of Diego Rivera in the main staircase a veritable compendium of the history of Mexico, from the particular point of view of the great Mexican painter. These small communities are very traditional and many of the villagers continue to follow ancient religious practices within the Catholic churches. Today we will visit the archaeological site Palenque, considered one of the most beautiful sites in all Mexico. A UNESCO historical monument, Palenque is considered a world treasure. Ancient structures rise out of the lush rainforest on multiple terraces set against the mountains, many of them built by the great King Pacal in the 6th & 7th centuries AD. There are many major buildings to explore and new buildings are now being uncovered and studied. Many wonderful examples of Maya art and history are carved into the buildings' facades, some of them the most famous depictions from the ancient Maya world. Continue to Campeche for accommodation.
