2 2 Cancun Cobá & Balancanché Hacienda Chichén Resort After breakfast, drive to the archaeological site of Coba. Here you can explore these large Maya ruins hidden away in the dense rain forest. Climb the highest pyramid where you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the jungle and the lagoons. After exploring the ruins stop for a quick break in a typical Mexican restaurant located on the Lagoon of Coba. Afterwards continue to the Caves of Balancanche which were discovered only a few decades ago. Here you will explore the underworld of Xibalba where locations used for sacrifice remain untouched. They were used by Priests and Shamans to worship the ancestors and gods. Overnight stay in the Hotel Hacienda Chichen Resort, located next to the excavation site of Chichen Itza. 3 Chichén Itzá Mérida Hacienda Temozon After breakfast visit Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders 3 of the World and Mexico s most famous and magnificently restored archeological excavation. Admire the monumental Kukulkan pyramid, which is also known as El Castillo and a variety of other impressive constructions this magical place has to offer. In the afternoon your adventure continues to Merida, the capital of the Yucatan and also known as the white city Stroll through the charming historical center and visit the oldest Cathedral of the Americas and the Government Palace with its beautiful murals. Then continue to the breathtaking Hacienda Temozon. Enjoy the evening walking through the stately grounds or spoil yourself with a relaxing Maya massage before having dinner. Overnight stay. 4 Hacienda Temozon Yaxcopoil & Celestún Hacienda Santa Rosa Today you will visit the former Hacienda Yaxopoil where you have the opportunity to experience the way of life on a sisal 4 Hacienda in the late 9th century. Then take a short trip to the small town of Uman where you can explore the multicolored stands of the weekly market held by the Maya population. From here you will head towards the Gulf of Mexico to the fishing village of Celestun where you have the chance to taste the local specialties fresh from the sea in a quaint beachside restaurant. In the afternoon enjoy a boat trip on the Lagoon surrounded by mangroves in the nature reserve of Celestun. This reserve is famous for their colony of flamingos as well as a multitude of other rare coastal birds. The day s activities end with a trip through the many small Maya villages on your way to the Hacienda Santa Rosa. The intimacy of this 2 room Hacienda is enchanting. Overnight stay. 5 Hacienda Santa Rosa Uxmal & Labná Hacienda Santa Rosa In the morning, drive to the archaeological site of Uxmal. The unique architectural design of this site will leave you 5 breathless. You will be filled with respect and admiration at the extent of this beautiful city completed without technical help in the 9th and 0th Century. Afterwards, enjoy a break for lunch in a Maya Restaurant where you will have the opportunity to taste traditional Maya cuisine. In the afternoon your trip leads you through picturesque villages on your way to the rarely visited ruins of Labna, one of the most magical places of the Puuc Region. 6 Hacienda Santa Rosa Edzná & Campeche Hacienda Uayamon After a delicious breakfast you are off to the ruins of Edzná, the most well known Maya City in the state of Campeche. A large site with a huge Acropolis in different architectural 6 styles and which successfully cultivated the fertile surrounding territory with an ingenious system of irrigation. After exploring this unique excavation site continue to Campeche. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has a beautifully restored center with its dominant bulwarks, old Churches, picturesque Palaces and colorful streets. Explore the city s cobblestone streets and get the feeling that you have gone back to the time when this port town was battled by pirates. In the afternoon leave for the luxurious Hacienda Uaymon, once a splendid property of the sisal Baron Don Fernando Carvajal Estrada. 7 Hacienda Uayamon Tixkokob & Aké Hacienda San José Cholul 7 On today s adventure you will visit Tixkokob, a place of production for famous high quality woven hammocks. From here you will visit Aké, a hidden archaeological site in the middle of a former sisal Hacienda. The Hacienda has been reopened by neighboring Maya farmers. After exploring the ruins you will leave for the Hacienda San Jose Cholul. This former sisal Hacienda is situated in a wonderful park and shines with the splendor of the colonial era. It also has a restaurant with delicious Maya specialties, large suites and bathrooms, a swimming pool filled with natural spring water and vast gardens, making your stay at the Hacienda a special event. 8 Hacienda San José Cholul Izamal, Valladolid & Tulum Cancun 8 After breakfast you are off to Izamal, the town of three cultures. The custard yellow colonial buildings are surrounded by huge pyramids, like the Kinich Kakmo and the Izamatul which tower above town, reminding you of the famous Itzas and their forcible downfall. The main attraction in this charming town is the extensive Franciscan Convent. Today it is a pilgrimage site for the Virgin of Izamal, the Patron Saint of the Yucatan. After this visit you will continue on to Valladolid, where you can refresh in the shade of one of the many restaurants in the beautiful colonial plaza. In the afternoon you will visit Tulum, an absolutely beautiful Maya ruin of the post classical period which is spectacularly situated on a cliff face overlooking the Caribbean Sea. After this eventful day drive to the airport in Cancun to return the rental car and catch your flight home or continue your vacation on the beautiful beaches of Mexico s Caribbean coast. Since Europcar charges a security deposit for each car rental which increases depending on category ( EUR), a credit card is needed.. The rental car needs to be returned to the Europcar offices as specified in the itinerary. It is not possible to leave the rental car at the hotel. Upon request Europcar offers a transfer to the hotel once the rental car is returned.
