3 BEFORE YOU BEGIN Fueling Requirements: This fuel pump is designed, tested and approved for use with gasoline blends (up to E15), diesel fuel blends (up to B20) and kerosene. Please take all due precautions when handling these flammable liquids. Do not use this pump for dispensing any fluids other than those for which it was designed. To do so may damage the pumps components and will void the warranty. Power Source Requirements: This manual covers 115/230-volt AC electric vane pump with meter models 53KH62 and 53KH64. 4 GETTING STARTED SAFETY / SPECIFICATIONS ASSEMBLY / GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT: It is your responsibility to: Know and follow applicable national, state and local safety codes pertaining to installing and operating electrical equipment for use with flammable liquids. Know and follow all safety precautions when handling petroleum fuels. Ensure that all equipment operators have access to adequate instructions concerning safe operating and maintenance procedures. Observe all safety precautions concerning safe handling of petroleum fuels. To ensure safe operation, all fuel transfer systems must be properly grounded. Proper grounding means a continuous metal-to-metal contact from one component to the next, including tank, bung, pump, meter, filter, hose and nozzle. Care should be taken to ensure proper grounding during initial installation and after any service or repair procedures. For your safety, please take a moment to review the warnings below. To prevent physical injury, observe precautions against fire or explosion when dispensing fuel. Do not operate the system in the presence of any source of ignition including running or hot engines, lighted cigarettes, or gas or electric heaters. Observe precautions against electrical shock when operating the system. Serious or fatal shock can result from operating electrical equipment in damp or wet locations. TROUBLESHOOTING OPERATION MAINTENANCE / REPAIR 2-EN Avoid prolonged skin contact with petroleum fuels. Use protective goggles, gloves and aprons in case of splashing or spills. Change saturated clothing and wash skin promptly with soap and water. Observe precautions against electrical shock when servicing the pump. Always disconnect power before repairing or servicing. Never apply electrical power to the system when any of the coverplates are removed. If using solvent to clean pump components or tank, observe the solvent manufacturer s recommendations for safe use and disposal. This pump shall not be used for pumping fuel or other liquids into aircraft. Your system must be mounted to a vented tank. If the tank is unvented, contact Grainger for the correct vent device. The mesh strainer must always be installed when operating the meter; otherwise, particles may enter the meter chamber and disrupt the smooth operation of the oval gears.

8 GETTING STARTED INSTRUCTIONS Coverplates protect the operator from moving parts. Never operate the pump without coverplates in place. Never apply electric power to the pump without coverplates in place. Always disconnect power before repairing or servicing. SAFETY / SPECIFICATIONS ASSEMBLY / Mechanical Connections NOTE: All threaded fuel connections must be sealed with thread tape or a pipe thread sealing compound approved for use with petroleum fuels and tightened securely to prevent leakage. NOTE: This pump must be mounted on a vented tank. If the tank is not vented, contact Grainger for the correct vent. NOTE: This pump has a built-in check valve to keep the pump primed. No additional check valve is required on suction pipes shorter than 15 feet (4.6 meters). Make sure any check valves or foot valves used are equipped with proper pressure relief valves. NOTE: This pump is designed to mount directly to a standard 2 inch female tank adapter (see Figure 3). For the suction pipe (not included), a 1 inch (25.40 mm) steel pipe cut to length and threaded on one end may be used. Suction pipe should extend to within 3 inches (76.2 mm) of tank bottom. Apply thread tape to the suction pipe thread and securely tighten the suction pipe to the pump inlet port. TROUBLESHOOTING OPERATION MAINTENANCE / REPAIR 6-EN Install Meter on Pump 1. Remove the strainer counterbore pipe from meter inlet (see Figure 2). The inlet port has a 100 mesh stainless steel conical strainer installed. Keep the strainer counterbore pipe for future use when cleaning and replacing strainer. The counterbore pipe is to be used as a tool to help push the strainer back into position after removal. The mesh strainer must always be installed when operating the meter; otherwise, particles may enter the meter chamber and disrupt the smooth operation of the oval gears. 2. Remove the protective plugs from the meter inlet fitting and 1 inch NPT coupling fitting (installed onto the meter outlet fitting). 3. Remove the 1 inch NPT coupling fitting from the outlet fitting port. 4. Wrap the outlet fitting port threads with 3 to 4 turns of thread tape. Reinstall 1 inch NPT coupling fitting and tighten securely. 5. Install #130 O-ring into channel on lower meter fitting (see Figure 3). 6. Attach meter to pump using the (4) supplied M6-1.0 x 20 mm socket head cap screws (see Figure 3) and tighten securely. 7. Install reset knob onto meter.

Clean the tank interior of all dirt and foreign material. 2. Wrap threaded end of the tank adapter with three or four turns of thread tape (see Figure 3). Install suction pipe on to tank adapter. Insert suction pipe into tank opening and, using a wrench, tighten the adapter snugly into the fuel tank. 3. Wrap threads of the pump base with three or four turns of thread tape. NOTE: For Aluminum Tank Installation - To prevent thread galling of aluminum fittings, always prepare the threads for assembly using an anti-seize compound such as Loctite 567 TM, Hernon Dripstop 940 or equivalent. 4. Carefully lift pump-meter assembly and thread onto tank adapter and rotate to desired position. Electrical Connections Pump must be installed by a licensed electrician and conform to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes 30 and 70. You, as the owner, are responsible for seeing that the installation and operation of your pump complies with NFPA codes as well as any applicable state and local codes. Rigid conduit must be used to install wiring. Failure to follow these wiring instructions may result in death or serious injury from shock, fire or explosion. The pump must be properly grounded to avoid personal injury. Operating an ungrounded or improperly grounded pump may result in death due to electrical shock, fire or explosion. NOTE: Electrical wiring and connections must be made only by a licensed electrician in accordance with national, state and local electrical codes regarding Class I, Division 1, Group D locations. Other codes may apply. NOTE: Thread for the conduit connection at the pump electrical box is 1/2 inch FNPT. NOTE: A standard 15-amp breaker is recommended. NOTE: This pump is equipped with an auxiliary AC accessory lead. The third wire (red for 115-volt system) is to be used to energize a control circuit that operates a device such as a signal light or a solenoid operated valve. Maximum amp draw on the control circuit is 1 amp. If you do not need this feature, ensure that the wire is insulated and enclosed within the electrical cavity of the pump. Connect pump to the proper voltage source. This pump is designed to operate on 115 VAC, 60 HZ or 230 VAC, 60 HZ. Connection to improper voltage will damage pump. Pump is set at factory for low voltage (115-volt). For high voltage applications (230-volt) see wiring diagram located inside electrical coverplate.

11 INSTRUCTIONS (CONTINUED) Connect Wiring 1. Remove the pump switch lever, nozzle holder and electrical coverplate (see Figure 4). Install conduit and cable from switchbox to pump electrical box. Wiring must be in accordance with Class I, Division 1 requirements in the applicable national electrical code. 2. Attach ground wire using the green ground screw located inside the electrical box (see Figure 4). The external bonding connection is only a supplemental bonding connection where local authorities permit or require such a connection. Connect the power cable to the pump wiring per the diagram located inside the electrical coverplate (see Figure 5). Secure with wire nuts. 3. Position wires inside the electrical box. Replace electrical coverplate. Install all (7) screws. Torque to in. lbs. ( Nm). 4. Reinstall nozzle holder and pump switch lever. Tighten securely. Wrap one end of the dispensing hose with 3 to 4 turns of thread tape and thread into 1 inch NPT coupling fitting. Tighten securely using an adjustable wrench. NOTE: The outlet meter fitting can be positioned to route fuel hose to back of pump if needed (see Figure 6). 2. Wrap opposite end of hose with 3 or 4 turns of thread tape and thread into nozzle. Tighten securely using an adjustable wrench. 3. Place the nozzle into the nozzle holder on the end of the pump motor housing. 13 OPERATION - PUMP To prevent physical injury, observe precautions against fire or explosion when dispensing fuel. GETTING STARTED SAFETY / SPECIFICATIONS Dispensing Fuel 1. Remove the nozzle from the holder. Turn the pump on by pulling the switch lever down (see Figure 7). 2. Insert the nozzle into the receiving tank and squeeze the handle to dispense fuel. 3. After dispensing fuel, push the switch lever up to turn the pump off and return the nozzle to the holder. The nozzle may be locked in place to prevent unauthorized use. 4. The pump contains an automatic bypass valve to prevent pressure buildup when the pump is on but the nozzle is closed. Do not leave the pump on for more than 10 minutes with the nozzle closed. 5. Never leave the pump running without fluid. Dry running can damage the pump components. 6. The pump has a duty cycle of 30 minutes ON and 30 minutes OFF. 7. If the pump becomes too hot, an internal temperature-limiting device will automatically shut the motor off and prevent operation until it cools. 8. The fuel strainer and check valve assembly should be cleaned on a regular basis or if low flow rate is noticed. Always turn the pump off if the temperaturelimiting device trips. 14 GETTING STARTED SAFETY / SPECIFICATIONS OPERATION - METER IMPORTANT: Always follow safety precautions when operating this equipment. Review the safety instructions. Before each use, visually check the meter to ensure it is securely connected to other system components and there is no leakage. Promptly wipe spilled fuel from the meter s exterior and other system components. Meter Display 1. The large meter display represents the Batch Total for each fuel delivery. Before dispensing, reset the Batch Total to zero by turning the reset knob (see Figure 8). 2. The small display represents the Cumulative Total of all fuel deliveries and cannot be reset (see Figure 8). 15 OPERATION - METER (CONTINUED) Calibration NOTE: The meter is accurately calibrated at the factory for use with diesel fuel. Due to differences in viscosity and flowrates, the meter may require recalibration to measure other fuels or to adjust for inaccuracies (see Figure 11 - Calibration Curves). To adjust the calibration of the meter, gain access to the calibration screw by performing the following: 1. Remove the back plate and the (4) screws retaining it. The O-ring seal under the plate must not be damaged (see Figure 9). 2. Using the 5 mm hex L-wrench provided with the meter, adjust the calibration screw as required. NOTE: The calibration screw setting may have been adjusted at the factory. The gasoline setting is approximately fully closed (turn clockwise). Do not overtighten the screw against the seat. 3. To verify the calibration is correct, fill a graduated calibration container to a specified quantity. For the greatest accuracy, be sure the container is placed on a level surface and a consistent flowrate is used. When topping off the calibration container, use a quick-open and quick-close method until the mark is reached. 4. Compare the meter display to the quantity in the container. If the display does not register the quantity on the container, adjust the calibration screw as needed. 5. Repeat this process as necessary to achieve a consistent flow-rate. 6. Reinstall the plate, (4) screws and the O-ring seal if removed. Tighten (4) screws to lb-in ( Nm) torque. 16 GETTING STARTED SAFETY / SPECIFICATIONS ASSEMBLY / OPERATION - METER (CONTINUED) Optional Calibration - Unleaded Fuel Gear Kit NOTE: The meter can be field calibrated for use with unleaded fuel (see Calibration), however, a gear replacement kit is available to increase accuracy when using unleaded fuel (see Repair Parts List). NOTE: The replacement gear is white for easy identification. Retain the black gear to change the meter back to a diesel calibration if needed (see Figure 10). 1. Using a 3 mm hex wrench, remove the 4 top cover screws and top cover. 2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the 2 counter register screws and counter register. 3. Using a small flat screwdriver, pry off the retaining clip. 4. Remove the black gear and replace with the white gear. 5. Press replace the retaining ring. Leave a small amount of space between ring and gear. 6. Replace counter register and screws. 7. Replace top cover and screws. 21 MAINTENANCE - PUMP IMPORTANT: This pump is designed for minimum maintenance. Motor bearings are sealed and require no lubrication. Inspect the pump and components regularly for fuel leaks and make sure the hose and power cord are in good condition. Keep the pump exterior clean to help identify leaks. IMPORTANT: Do not use this pump for water, chemicals or herbicides. Dispensing any fluid other than those listed in this manual will damage the pump. Use of the pump with unauthorized fluids will void the warranty. Clean or Replace Strainer NOTE: All pump models have an inlet strainer. If flowrate is reduced, clean or replace strainer. 1. Turn the pump off and disconnect from power. 2. Remove and clean the strainer with a soft-bristled brush and solvent (see Figure 12). If the strainer is very dirty, compressed air may be used. If damaged, replace the strainer. 3. Replace components making sure that they are seated and fasteners are tightened securely. 22 GETTING STARTED MAINTENANCE - METER NOTE: The meter s strainer should be cleaned at regular intervals, especially if reduced flow is encountered. Clean or Replace Strainer SAFETY / SPECIFICATIONS TROUBLESHOOTING OPERATION ASSEMBLY / 1. Remove the socket screws at the inlet fitting. Remove the meter from the fitting. Remove the O-ring and strainer (see Figures 13 and 14). 2. The strainer rim is pressed into the housing inlet but can be removed by carefully grasping the end with pliers and pulling with a wiggling motion until free. 3. Using a fine brush, clean the strainer. Replace the strainer as necessary. 4. Wipe the housing inlet clean and reinstall strainer, pressing it into the strainer bore. It is designed to be field pressed back into place using the strainer counterbore pipe (see Figure 2), using light hammer taps. The mesh strainer must always be installed when operating the meter; otherwise, particles may enter the meter chamber and disrupt the smooth operation of the oval gears. 5. Wipe clean the fitting and O-ring groove. Coat the O-ring with oil or light grease and seat into the fitting groove. 6. Reinstall the inlet fitting and screws. Tighten screws to lb-in ( Nm) torque.
