2 Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains in St Moritz What makes a hotel a grand hotel? It is ahead of its time. It creates and maintains traditions for decades. Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains is a magnificent establishment with rich traditions. Guests are greeted by a bright and welcoming lobby that airs a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere. The interior of the hotel harmoniously combines tradition with contemporary design, especially in the 184 rooms and suites and the 27 residences. Antiques are combined with simple wooden furniture and bright colours. Modern photographs and historical photo motifs tell of the initial blossoming Alpine lifestyle. Carefully selected stylistic elements of the Engadin valley and natural materials create a simple yet elegant look. Apart from the rooms and suites, the hotel features three restaurants, a bar, a cigar lounge, four meeting rooms, a 2,800 sq m (30,138.9 sq ft) fitness and spa area, which is also accessible to day-spa guests, a kids club, a ski school, a sports shop and a casino. Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains is located right at the sporting heart of St Moritz. The Signalbahn aerial tramway is just a few metres outside of the hotel and transports skiers in the winter and hikers and mountain bikers in the summer directly to the Corviglia region. There are miles and miles of snow-white slopes, trails and paths that meet every need and level of difficulty. The famous Hahnensee downhill run on the northern side of the Alps, known as the Corvatsch, ends right outside the hotel. Those who prefer cross-country skis or have marathon ambitions will find access to the vast network of cross-country ski tracks or the marathon route around the expansive lake districts right outside the hotel. The close co-operation with the Ski Service Corvatsch and the ski and bike shop in the hotel enables guests to store their equipment at the stations and pick them up the next day in perfect condition. 2

3 Rooms, Suites and Residences The 184 rooms and suites and the 27 residences on six levels are timelessly elegant and reflect uncomplicated luxury and stylish classicism. The historical photo motifs with modern frames are contemporary witnesses of the glamorous past of St Moritz, while the technical equipment is state-of-the-art. The available room categories include: Classic Single Room, Resort and Superior Double Room and Deluxe and Grand Deluxe Double Room. Resort Double Room The smallest of the Double Room categories provides everything the large rooms provide as well across 25 to 29 sq m (269.1 to sq ft). You will even find a desk to write lines with love from the Engadin valley. Grand Deluxe Double Room These rooms are perfect for short or long stays and a children s camp bed quickly makes them into a little family paradise. The style is classic and the colours match the Alpine habitat from cool silver and bluish tones to warm autumn reds. The rooms are 36 to 39 sq m (387.5 to sq ft) in size and feature king or twin beds, some with connecting doors. The bathrooms are made of marble, the floors are heated and historical pictures remind of the beginnings of Alpine tourism in St Moritz. 3

4 Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains also features 44 suites ranging in size from 40 to 120 sq m (430.6 to 1,291.7 sq ft). The suite categories are divided into Classic and Deluxe Junior Suites, Spa and Spa Corner Suites, and at the top end, into Tower Suites. The Presidential Suite with 320 sq m (3,444.5 sq ft) on two levels and a separate entrance is the largest suite in the hotel. Deluxe Junior Suites The walk-in closet of the Junior Suite provides plenty of room for sports equipment or extensive attire. The inviting lounge area is the perfect place to review a busy day or plan the next activities. These rooms offer 50 sq m (538.2 sq ft) of space with a bedroom and lounge area, inclusive of soft drinks in the mini-bar. Spa Suites The 11 Spa Suites and two Spa Corner Suites are located in a wing of the main building and feature a separate entrance. They are close to Kempinski The Spa and offer separate living and sleeping areas across 70 sq m (753.5 sq ft). They are complemented by a small kitchenette and balcony. 4

5 Tower Suites terrace characterise these beautiful suites. The hallmark of Kempinski in St Moritz is the two distinctive towers. In the past, the towers would house the laundry and bedrooms of the housemaids, and today, they are home to the two Tower Suites across three floors with a view of St Moritz. The suites have been designed in the Swisschalet-style and are characterised by warm colours, the extensive use of wood and classic furnishings. 120 sq m (1,291.7 sq ft), two bedrooms, living and dining areas and a magnificent Kempinski Residences All 27 residences promise stylish elegance and a luxury atmosphere. The design ranges from opulent and colourful to Engadin charm with lots of wood. The residences with one, two, three or four bedrooms are sq m (1, ,112.9 sq ft) in size and spread over one or two levels. They feature a spacious living area with a connected dining area, an open kitchen and appropriate bedrooms with walk-in closets. Guests have a direct view of the Engadin high valley from the balcony or garden. 5

6 Restaurants and Bar Kempinski Lobby & Bar One the first evening, head to the Kempinski bar. Here, it is always the right time and atmosphere. Throughout the day, the bar is more classic with high tea (with contemporary inspirations), fine Swiss pastries and the eternal club sandwich classic. In the evening, it is rather stylish. The DJ s tunes and the rhythmic shaking of cocktails set the tone. The cocktail menu is based on the classics. The selection of rarities is considered to be the best in all of Switzerland and the champagne or the Cüpli, as a glass of champagne is called in Switzerland is always iced. Les Saisons Grill & Dine The Les Saisons restaurant serves steaks from around the world with the variety of an international menu. It offers grilled meat in top quality, such as Wagyu, Swiss dryaged or USDA Prime in various cuts. You can also try the Surf & Turf with wild king prawns or yellowfin tuna and perfectly grilled Canadian lobster or the impressive selection of wines that make the mouths of gourmands water. The menu offers simple, perfectly prepared products such as: Glacier char, housemade pasta, antipasti or Swiss Highland beef. Guests can see how mountain cheese, fine ham and other Engadin delicacies are prepared right in front of their eyes. A highlight is the large regional and international wine selection, which leaves no wish unfulfilled. The interplay between wine and food is perfectly matched. The care products are made by Valmont, Alpienne, OPI and HydraFacial MD. Kempinski The Spa also offers a personalised nutrition and training programme by the experienced fitness and nutrition coach Mirko Colombo. Hydra Facial MD HydraFacial MD is a process that introduces active ingredients, such as antioxidants, vitamins and hyaluronic acid, directly into the deep layers of the skin. The use of LED therapy activates the body s own production of collagenic and elastinic skin cells. This treatment has no side effects and is suitable for all skin types and ages. 11 Summer in St Moritz St Moritz reached its current fame as the cradle of winter tourism, although the St Moritz mineral springs were already well known in the Middle Ages. Particularly during the summer months, it is a place of pilgrimage for visitors from all over the world. More and more young people are drawn to St Moritz to climb mountains or to try out the numerous mountain routes on a mountain bike. There is hardly any place that offers such a wide variety of different sports as St Moritz. And then there is the famous Maloja wind that challenges even experienced sailors on the vast lake districts, and when the sky is filled with colourful kite sails, it s summer in the Engadin valley. 12 Winter in St Moritz A Swiss hotelier laid the cornerstone for winter tourism in the Alps with a bet in He bet with his British guests that winter in the Engadin valley was as sunny as the summer and he won. St Moritz has since been considered the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism and celebrated its 150 th anniversary in the winter of 2014/15. Snow-white slopes and trails are right outside the hotel in the midst of the breathtaking mountain landscape of the Engadin valley. Deep snow-covered slopes sparkle in the sun and the wide valley creates its own magic. In short, it is a true winter sports paradise. 13 Matthias Schmidberger Executive Chef at the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains Who stops getting better has stopped being good. With this motto, a lot of creativity and enthusiasm, Matthias Schmidberger and his team cooked up the first star of the highly esteemed Michelin Guide This gives the Mediterranean gourmet restaurant Cà d'oro, in its first season under the direction of Schmidberger, the prestigious award. With texture, consistency and flavour, Schmidberger cooks so skilfully that he was honoured with the Michelin star in November 2013 and presented with 17 Gault Millau points. He is one of the rising stars among Swiss chefs. The young German has spent his entire career in star kitchens, including the Traube Tonbach, Baiersbronn in the Speisemeisterei, Stuttgart and the restaurants Sonnora, Dreis and last but not least in Brenner's Park Restaurant in Baden- Baden. His cuisine reflects his passion for European cuisine, straightforward presentation and products of first-class origins. "What is a better profession than one that appeals so intensely to all five senses and one that refines them daily with new experiences and tastes," said Schmidberger on the reason behind his career choice.
