3 YOUR ITINERARY Day 1: May 16 Board Your Overnight Flight to Milan! Day 2: May 17 - Milan Bologna Arrive in Milan and Transfer to Bologna With a metropolitan population of one million people, Bologna is the 7th largest city in Italy, and the largest of the Emilia-Romagna Region. Bologna is also home to some of Italy's most famous culinary delights, including Bolognese sauce. Overnight in Bologna Day 3: May 18 - Bologna Milan Visit the Lamborghini Museum and Factory Visit the most sought after luxury sports car maker in the world. The museum has a large collection of cars on display, and the factory visit will allow you to see an assembly line exhibiting the step by step process of making a luxury sports car. Transfer to Milan via the Barilla Academy Visit the Accademia Barilla, where you will enjoy a guided tour of their facility, including a visit to the biggest pasta making factory in the world. You will be able to observe the pasta production cycle in depth. After your visit, enjoy a delicious included lunch with an appetizer, two main courses, a side dish, dessert and non-alcoholic drinks. Arrive in Milan Arrive in Milan, fashion and finance capital of Italy. With its majestically adorned cathedral and the world-famous La Scala opera-house at the center, Milan is a mixture of traditional beauty and an economically successful present. Overnight in the Milan Region Day 4: May 19 - Milan Guided Sightseeing of Milan On your guided tour of flashy Milan, explore the interesting mix of past and present that make Milan one of Italy's most dynamic cities. See the striking duomo, with its enormous collection of spires and statues, it is the world's largest Gothic cathedral. Visit the Italian Fashion School Witness the cutting edge of Italian fashion first hand on your visit to a fashion school this afternoon. Here you can learn more about Milan fashion and how it has progressed to what you see today. Free Time to Visit the Last Supper Located in the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan is one of the world's most renowned works of art, completed by Leonardo da Vinci in The piece was finished shortly before the death of da Vinci's patron, Duke Lodovico Sforza, the man who taught the artist a great deal about science and mathematics. (Please note that tickets for this entrance have not been included in your program price and must be booked in advance by your group leader) Day 5: May 20 - Milan Lucerne Transfer to Lucerne via the Entlebuch Biosphere Tour Take an excursion to the town of Entlebuch and visit the Entlebuch Biosphere, a natural reserve at the foot of the Alps which includes the valley of the Little Emme River between Berne and Lucerne. In 2001, it was named the second UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Switzerland. Arrive in the Lucerne Region Recall the legends of folk hero William Tell (and his fortunate aim) as you overnight in the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne) region. Overnight in the Lucerne Region Day 6: May 21 - Lucerne Excursion to the Grimsel Power Plant Hydroelectric power plants, high voltage power lines and high reservoir lake walls dominate the landscape on the northern side of the Grimsel Pass, where you will get an up-close view of Switzerland's alternative power source. Your tour may take you through the impressive tunnel system to the Grimsel II power plant and the unique crystal cavern. After your visit, enjoy more free time in Lucerne. Walking Tour of Lucerne The majestic Alps provide a stunning backdrop to your tour of Lucerne, where composer Richard Wagner wrote several of his major works. You'll view the Löwendenkmal (Lion Monument), a sandstone statue commemorating the Swiss Guards slain in the 1792 Paris storming of the Tuileries. According to Mark Twain, it is the saddest and most compassionate piece of rock on earth. Stroll down narrow, winding streets and across the Kapellbrücke, a covered bridge whose history dates back to medieval days-the murals lining its walls are nearly identical to those painted in the 14th century. Overnight in the Lucerne Region Day 7: May 22 - Lucerne Lake Constance Transfer to Lake Constance Arrive in picturesque Lake Constance, a freshwater lake at the northern foot of the Alps located in the Bodensee Region. Lake Constance Region and Conservation Efforts Lake Constance is 39 miles long and 8.7 miles across at its widest point, and it consists of three bodies of water: the Obersee (upper lake), the Untersee (lower lake) and a connecting stretch of the Rhine River called the Seerhein. While visiting the lake you will learn about renewable energy and lake preservation, and you'll also enjoy a boat cruise powered by solar energy. 4 Day 8: May 23 - Lake Constance Neuschwanstein Munich Transfer to Munich via Neuschwanstein Castle Visit Mad King Ludwig's fairy-tale castle of Neuschwanstein, the real-life model for the Disney World castles. Ponder the young king's mysterious death as you learn the story of one of Europe's most eccentric rulers. King Ludwig so preferred dreams over reality that his servants could address him only from behind a screen. In fact, the original plans for the castle were drawn up by a theater set designer, not an architect. Arrive in Munich Welcome to Munich! This center of culture boasts over 45 museums, 10 university buildings and two opera houses. The city is also home to the Olympic center with full facilities and more than the occasional beer-hall. Day 9: May 24 - Munich Guided Sightseeing of Munich Your guided tour takes you past the Olympic Stadium, the headquarters of BMW, and the fashionable Schwabing district. You'll also pass the Residenz (once home to the Wittelsbach dukes of Bavaria), the Deutsches Museum, the university, and the Alte Pinakothek. Your tour concludes at Marienplatz, Munich's medieval heart, where you'll see the city's famed Glockenspiel. Munich derives from the city's German name, München (little monk), so named because the original settlement bordered a monastery. Excursion to Dachau Once merely another sleepy German village, Dachau has since 1933 gained notoriety as Germany's first Nazi concentration camp. Today, the old administration building houses a museum documenting the rise of Hitler and the horrors of camp life. Commemorative chapels and memorials have also been built on the site, which stands as an eternal memorial to those who endured life here until liberation by Allied forces. Local Factory Tour Enjoy a tour of a local factory in Munich. Day 10: May 25 - Munich Free Afternoon in Munich Wander through the Marktplatz, sampling the wares of local farmers and craftsmen-here you can also pick up a Weisswurst, the traditional white sausage of the region. You might also choose to visit the Spielzuegmuseum (toy museum) just off Marienplatz. Stop by the Frauenkirche, where the devil stamped his foot in anger after losing a bet with the church's architect. The devil's hoofed footprint remains as evidence in the church entryway. Day 11: May 26 - Munich 8:30-12:30: Visit the Hilti Drilling Company Hilti offers products, systems and services that have leading-edge technology and provide professional customers in the construction and energy sectors with innovative solutions that feature outstanding added value. Today you will attend a presentation from one of the top engineers at Hilti to learn about the company and discuss different jobs in engineering. Afterwards you will split into smaller groups to tour the facilities and observe different development areas. 13:30: Visit the Innovation Academy A non-profit association that focuses on the issue of climate protection, the Innovation Academy addresses themes such as renewable energy, sustainable urban development, old building modernization and mobility. Today's visit will focus on producing geothermal electricity and heat for a whole district. Day 12: May 27 - Munich Heidelberg Visit KUKA Robotics KUKA is one of the leading manufacturers of robotics as well as plant and systems engineering, with 25 subsidiaries worldwide. Today you will learn about the robotics industry and tour the facilities. Transfer to Heidelberg Arrive in Heidelberg, one of Germany's most beautiful towns, standing proudly on the River Neckar. While its castle dominates the skyline, the town also has wonderful shopping and a vibrant nightlife due to its large university population. In Heidelberg, your Group Leader has arranged for hotel accommodations. Overnight in Group Leader-Arranged Accommodations, Heidelberg Visit the Deutsches Museum Marvel at the vast collections honoring science and technology at this museum, which opened in 1925 and was partially destroyed during WWII air raids. Reopening a few years later, the Deutsches Museum now features permanent exhibits, which run the gamut from Carriages & Bicycles to Computers, from the Altimira Cave to Music. At the Forum der Technik (Technology Forum), part of the museum housed next door, you'll find an IMAX Theater and a planetarium.

5 Day 13: May 28 - Heidelberg Guided Sightseeing of Heidelberg Become acquainted with Germany's oldest university city (the university dates back to 1386). See Heidelberg's 700-year-old Schloß (palace) and its famous Faß (wine barrel), the world's largest. From the castle's rose-colored walls and historic battlements, enjoy a stunning view of the Neckar Valley, where Homo heidelbergensis roamed 500,000 years ago. You'll also see the town's medieval streets and Marktplatz, where witches were once burned at the stake. Writers as diverse as Mark Twain (who once floated down the Neckar on a raft) and Goethe (who was inspired by the view from the Schloß) have long praised Heidelberg's enduring beauty. Day 15: May 30 - Heidelberg Transfer to the Frankfurt Airport for Your Return Flight Your Tour Director assists with your transfer to the airport, where you'll check in for your return flight home. Overnight in Group Leader-Arranged Accommodations, Heidelberg Day 14: May 29 - Heidelberg Strasbourg Excursion to Strasbourg, France On your Tour Director-led tour of this charming city you will be able to see many of its charming areas, including 15th- and 17th-century buildings and several ornate bridges. Elsewhere you can visit the masterpiece church of St. Thomas, famed for its five naves as well as Strasbourg's own Notre-Dame cathedral. You might also want to learn the words to the French national anthem ( La Marseillaise )-it was first sung here in Strasbourg. Visit the Strasbourg Cathedral This outstanding example of Gothic architecture is considered one of Strasbourg's crowning achievements. Completed in the late 15th century after more than 300 years of construction, this cathedral has the highest remaining tower from Medieval times at close to 500 ft! Enjoy your time exploring the Romanesque crypt and astrological clock, and feel free to climb the tower for unparalleled views of the city and surrounding region.
