2 This version of our Camino de Santiago is design for independent travelers who would like to walk the last 100kms/62 mi of the Pilgrimage trail, which is necessary to receive La Compostela certificate. You will arrive at the airport of Santiago and be meet by a private chauffeur who will transfer you to the point where you will start the trail making your way back to Santiago city. This trip is ideal for those who do want to lug all their baggage every day when they walk, what we have done is set up a private chauffeur who will pick up and drop off your baggage at each accommodation every day. You have the option as well at the end of the day during the time when your chauffeur is transferring your baggage to be picked up along the way and dropped off with your luggage at your accommodation. The Camino de Santiago from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela which is known as the French Way is a beautiful walk as it passses through medieval woodland, forests of beech, oak, pines and chestnut as well as small hamlets/towns with granite stone buildings and farms. So it's often easy on the feet on footpaths off-road and with little traffic passing the genteel country lanes. You'll get to appreciate the typical architecture of the region : stone-built country houses (pazos), and corn crib stores elevated about the ground to keep the corn away from the damp and rodents (horreos). Here are some of the highlights to look forward to ( and to watch out for ) : Sarria : San Salvador Church - romanesque/gothic 13th century ; 13th century castle tower ; town viewpoint ; Monastery, Magdalena Convent - 13th century, gothic originally pilgrim's hospital ; Aspera bridge - 12th century over River Celerio arbadelo : Santiago Church - romanesque 11th century with frescoes Ferreiros : Roman Church Portomarin : elesar dam on River Miño ; San Nicolas/ San Juan Church - romanesque, reconstructed 12th century ; San Pedro Church - romanesque 10th century. Castromaior : Romanesque 12th century Vendas de Naron : Magdalena Chapel with pilgrim symbols carved on wooden door Ligonde : 17th century Stone Cross of life and death of Jesus Christ Palas de Rei : San Tirso Church - 12th century romanesque San Xiao do Camiño - 12th century romanesque Leboreiro : Primitive corn crib (pre-dates an horreo) Disicabo : Roman bridge over River Seco Melide : Ethnographic Museum ; San Pedro Church -14th century ; Sancti Spiritus Church -14th century ; Octopus from Casa Alongos restaurante! Santa Maria de Melide : Romanesque 12th century Church with 16th century frescoes oente ; Santiago Church Ribadiso de Abaixo : Roman bridge Arzua : Magdalena Chapel, Santiago Church ; Local cheese which is soft and creamy made from the brown cows! Santa Irene Chapel : 17th century with wooden carvings of Saint James Lavacolla : Santiago de Compostela Airport ; San Roque Church Monte de Gozo : The Hill of Joy where from the Pilgrim's Statue you get your first view of the ell Towers of Santiago Cathedral Santiago de Compostela : Pilgrim's Office ; Pilgrim's Mass at the Cathedral ; Old Town ; Wine Street. Victor, our driver, was superb. He took care of whatever we needed and made sure we were safe and got to our hotels on time. The accommodations were wonderful. We enjoyed the variety, the quaintness, and great service. We truly enjoyed every aspect of our trip. The afternoon tour of Finnesterre was the perfect ending, and we were happy we included it. Our tour guide in Santiago was also terrific. The restaurant in Santiago was also top notch, and the staff was superb, and spoke English. Thanks again, and please let us know if we can help other prospective clients as we are happy to recommend you and the trip.
