Authentic task By Benedetti, Grillo, Mazzon & Stella
Neo-abyss: It s a new city undersea, we have chosen this name because it represents a new opportunity to build a city in a place which has never been used. It comes from neo that means new, and abyss that denotes its position.
Point 1:Balearic islands-spain position: It s situated in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth that arrives till -200m, between the Balearic Islands, (in particularly Majorca, the biggest one), the south-east part of Spain ( Valencia and Barcelona) and near the French line settled by the Pyrenees.
Typology of waters and climate The Balearic Sea is a part of sea situated in the Mediterranean Sea near the Balearic Islands which have a typical Mediterranean climate characterised by rainy winters and dry, hot summers. Compared to Barcelona, Valencia has an average of +1/2 degrees. However the sea water warms up slowly and has a moderating action on climate. The superficial water warms up and the heat is delivered in depth with connective movement. Generally average temperatures at the Mediterranean latitudes are from 10 to 20 degrees, it depends on the season. The temperature also changes with depth: until -300m, in fact, decreases quickly.
Political and military security Spanish political system is a parliamentary monarchy and on the basis of the Constitution of 1978, the king is the head of the state. Military Spain has a complete anti-terror legislation due to the presence of terrorism (Barcelona s terrorist attack). It cooperated with the USA in order to destroy terrorist networks.
Pros & cons The area is not seismic and there is a mild climate; The nearness to some of the most important cities and airports of Spain and Majorca; The efficient political and military organisation; There have been some terrorist attacks, especially in Barcelona last summer.
Point 2: DEnmark-Norway OSITION: Situated in the area of the North Sea between Norway and Denmark.
Typology of waters and climate The North Sea is -100m deep, with peaks of up to -700m, the movements of the fractures can still cause some small earthquakes or tsunamis. The temperature of water reaches up to 21 degrees in summer and down to 6 degrees in winter and it s affected by the Gulf Stream. The climate is cool in summer while in winter the temperature rises due to the temperature of water.
Political and military security Norway is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government, wherein the King of Norway is the head of the state and the prime minister is the head of the government. Military service is compulsory for women from 19 to 44 since Norway aims of reinforcing the army.
Pros & cons Norway is a rich and safe country, there have never been terrorist attacks In summer the temperature of the water is quite warm In winter the temperature of the water goes down to 6 degrees Norway is a cold country
Point 3: Corsica-elba island-tuscany Position: It is situated between the Isle of Elba and Tuscany; it is not distant from Corsica; it is surrounded by the Ligurian sea, it easily connects with Portoferraio (Isle of Elba), Piombino and Marina di Cecina (Tuscany)
Type of water and climate The Ligurian sea is the northest part of the Mediterranean Western Sea. The Ligurian sea goes from Liguria to Corsica: it s little, but deep, and the mountains arrive until the sea. The chosen point, has a depth from -100m to -200m. The climate in this area is mild, affected by the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea. In this point, the temperature of the water is about degrees.
Political and military security Italy has been a parliamentary republic since June The president of Italy is the head of the state and he s elected for a single 7 years mandate by the parliament of Italy. The Italian Armed Forces include the Italian army, the Italian Navy and the Italian Air Force.
Pros & cons The climate is mild and there is one of the most beautiful panoramas The Isle of Elba isn t convenient for transport Italy does not have an efficient political organisation
