Peva~ M i l o m i r Miljani}: U Americi sam dvadesetak dana i zate~en sam n e m i l i m doga ajima.

Pune ruke posla za pendreke, politi~are i stakloresce. Grad Beograd se naravno vra}a sebi, }umurlije se pune gostima iz inostranstva a Leskova~ka pljeskavica ponovo dobija svoje zaslu`eno priznanje sa lukom, medalju ~asti i orden sa nekoliko lovorovih gran~ica i evropskih zvezdica. Zapravo moja mala pri~a nema puno veze sa crnim lukom i nebeskim narodima, nego sam se setio davne osamdeset tre}e godine i tog zavejanog puta i sne`nih pahulja u blizini grada Krahova uspavanog grada, u dalekoj dr`avi Poljskoj. Tada{njoj depresivnoj zemlji komunizma i poezije. Mi mladi studenti akademije umetnosti u autobusu brodimo. I ba{ se taj studenstki autobus pokvario ta~no ispred kapije ozlogla{enog logora Au{vic u Poljskoj, ni napred ni nazad, stoj. I mislio o `ivotu, mislio o smrti. Jevrejin. Hiljadu i kusur pitanja i mnogo glupavih izgovora. Boban Ilic Ogledalo 7

3 Speech of Anna Pavichevich: Poma`e Bog! Thank you all for coming today. I hope you will forgive me for not addressing the following comments to you all of you here present. Instead, I am going to take this opportunity to direct my comments to some individuals who are in desperate need of hearing what we have to say. I hope you all don t mind if I speak to them on your behalf, as well. President George Walker Bush, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Senator Hillary Clinton and your husband, Bill, Senator John McCain, Dick Holbrook, and last, but not least, Madeline Albright Once again the Serbian Orthodox people can viscerally feel your scorn, so we who have gathered here today are compelled to ask each and every one of you HOW LONG WILL THE SERBIAN PEOPLE BE FORCED TO SUFFER FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR WRECKLESS, MALI- CIOUS, AND BIASED POLI- CIES? Know that the consequences of your actions, such as your most recent OBSCENE recognition of the illegal, illegitimate, and unilateral declaration of independence by Albanians living in Kosovo, are not only dangerous and destructive to democracy and the rule of international law but promote terrorism and instability. We are confused by your recognition of this renegade country, as we are bombarded with propaganda about your collective effort to win the war against terror. We cannot help but notice that you ignore the mounds of facts and evidence that prove the direct link between the Al-Queda terrorists, who changed America forever on 9/11, and the Kosovo Liberation Army, which has miraculously usurped a legitimacy it does not deserve. Have you forgotten that the US State Department once placed the Kosovo Liberation Army on its list of terrorists? Did you forget that Hashim Thaci, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, the President of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) was a former leader of the KLA paramilitary group that you, yourselves, labeled as terrorists less than ten years ago. Based on these facts, WE can only draw one conclusion, YOU ARE LYING TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC. YOU ARE LYING TO THE WORLD. You are not interested in fighting a war against terrorism. You are only interested in developing self- serving policies that punish those who dare to disagree with you. We Americans are all ashamed that, collectively, you have thumbed your nose at justice and law and overtly denigrated the moral principles upon which this great country, the United States of America, was founded. We ask ourselves daily. Is it that you are ignorant of the facts? Blind to the truth? No, you are not. You are deliberately, contemptuously, and maliciously creating a European state based on one criterion. Albanian ethnic purity. Julia Gorin, a noted Republican political pundit, received an from an American K-For soldier who was responding to inflammatory news reports about the erupting violence during the mass demonstrations in Belgrade. On the days after the United States was beat to recognizing Kosovo s illegal declaration of independence only by Afghanistan, He wrote, I am actually sickened at this whole turn of events. I spent a year of my life there, tracking Saudi funded Wahabbi scum, seeing Serbs murdered, and for what? Cognitive dissonance as to how I, as a US Soldier, can possibly see this as a fight for freedom. In light of that, let us openly and publicly question your motives for all of Chicago and the world to hear. Aren t you really supporting an ethnically pure Albanian state on the sovereign territory of Serbia because of the KLA terrorists drug money which was paid by high priced lobbyists to American congressman and politicians? Money that has funded the campaigns and lined the pockets of current presidential candidates? Is it AKTUELNO Sa protesta KOSOVO JE SRBIJA U ^ikagu februara, because you are disappointed by the recent results in the Serbian Presidential elections and are trying to scuttle the pro-western, democratic government elected just weeks ago by the citizens of Serbia? Or, is it because you want to punish the Serbian people for their ongoing, open defiance of your immoral, unjust, and self- serving international policies that were created by you, American government officials, who still today venomously tout hatred and contempt for Serbs at every possible chance? Yes, Mr. Holbrook, I am talking to you. Yes, Ms. Albright, I am talking to you. Yes, Senator Clinton I am talking to you and your husband, Bill. Well, let me tell you this. You may think that you have accomplished something, but you have not. You cannot buy and sell what is in our hearts. You cannot buy and sell our identity. Kosovo Metohija cannot be bought or sold because it is not yours. You see, Kosovo is Serbia! As Matija Beckovic said: Zemlju koju sam od neba kupio neko im je obe}ao. Ko - im obe}ao, taj ih je slagao. [to im ne obe}a ono {to je njegovo? Someone promised to others the land I have purchased from heaven. He who made this promise lied to them. Why don t you Kosova promise them that which is yours? You have not learned from our history. KosMet has been taken from us before and we have taken it back. Because, as you see, there is a fact you choose to ignore but that we will never allow you to ignore. Kosovo always Was Serbia. Kosovo STILL is Serbia, and Kosovo always will be Serbia. But as it stands you are responsible for the creation of an illegal, ethnically pure state on the sovereign territory of another nation. Indulge us for a moment while we describe for you the characteristics of that state. You have repeatedly and openly declared your support of the independent state of Kosova, a state whose government condones the burning of churches and the killing of civilians. Where in the world is there a legitimate and viable state that for NINE YEARS necessitates the protection of United Nations forces and their tanks around the churches of their ethnic minority to prevent them from being desecrated and destroyed? United Nations, why are you wasting money on your armed forces and on your tanks because your protection isn t helping. Under your watchful, but blind, eyes, 156 Serbian orthodox monasteries have been burned and desecrated by the Kosovar Albanian population. They ignited and then stood by, watching the flames billowing from the churches and cheereing and ringing our church bells in mockery of our faith. United Nations Kosovo- Forces, step aside! We will guard our churches and our civilians. It is our duty. It is our right. Because Kosovo is Serbia. How much destruction and carnage must the innocent Serbian monks, nuns, and children endure while you play geopolitical chess? When will we have suffered enough for you? Since you didn t reach your saturation point with the destruction of 156 churches and monasteries and the deaths of 2,000 civilians in just the past few years, will it only be enough when, as in the past, the non-christian oppressors have turned our holy churches and monasteries into barn stalls for their horses and cows? Will it be enough for you then? Because rest assured, you can bring your tanks, you can post your UN forces, but those oppressors will not stop their carnage until they have killed or expelled every last Serbian and non-albanian resident and burned down or desecrated every Orthodox Christian church. And, what will you do when the tiny nation of INDEPENDENTLY annexes itself to its brothers in the neighboring country of Albania, thereby creating Greater Albania? Will you grant them the rights to self-determination that you have denied the Krajina Serbs, the Bosnian Serbs, and now the Serbian Serbs? Will you give them the rights to protect their borders against tyranny? Of course you will. The rules you have created only for us and that you have violently imposed by bombing our children and our homes are based on your bigoted, narrow minded view of the world. Petar Petrovic Njegos Drugi wrote Kome zakon lezi u topuzi, tragovi mu smrde necovijeshtshtvom. He who makes Might his Right, along his path rises the stenches of inhuman cruelty. Please don t misunderstand my message. Do not manipulate my words. I was born and raised in this country, and I love this country. I place its well being above all. I respect principles on which it was founded, but I am ashamed and disgusted by the way you have perverted justice and demonstrated an open disregard for the rule of law. It is precisely because I love this country that I stand here today. In fact, President Bush, Secretary of State Rice, Senators Clinton and McCain, Dick and Madeline by standing here today and openly criticizing your policies, I am showing more love for this country than you are with your back room manipulations and machinations designed to destroy and defeat a proud, moral, and democratic nation and its citizens. And, I am not only referring to Serbia. I am referring to the United States of America. You are jeopardizing both Serbian and American citizens with these actions and starting a tide, the force of which you cannot even imagine. So we stand here today to declare OUR independence Independence from your bigotry, independence from your scorn and contempt, independence from your lies. And we caution you. When Isreal, Canada, India, Russia, Spain, Bosnia and Hercegovina and KOSOVA are all faced with declarations of independence from their ethnic minorities, how will you stop them? On what grounds will you try? You have set a precedent and put actions in motion that you will not be able to stop.. Vladimir Putin said it well with regard to the illegal, illegitimate, and unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovar Albanians and the United States subsequent obscene recognition of it. Mr. Putin said, Ultimately, it is a double-edged sword, and the other edge will bash them on the head some time, In case that rhetoric is a little too esoteric for you to grasp, let me put it to you clearly with an old American Adage President Bush, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Senators McCain and Clinton, and your husband Bill, Dick and Madeline, Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it.! 4 AKTUELNO PJB: Does Balkanization Beckon Anew? by Patrick J. Buchanan When the Great War comes, said old Bismarck, it will come out of some damn fool thing in the Balkans. On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip shot the archduke and heir to the Austrian throne, Franz Ferdinand, in Sarajevo, setting in motion the train of events that led to the first world war. In the spring 1999, the United States bombed Serbia for 78 days to force its army out of that nation s cradle province of Kosovo. The Serbs were fighting Albanian separatists of the Kosovo Liberation Army, or KLA. And we had no more right to bomb Belgrade than the Royal Navy would have had to bombard New York in our Civil War. We bombed Serbia, we were told, to stop the genocide in Kosovo. But there was no genocide. This was propaganda. The United Nations final casualty count of Serbs and Albanians in Slobodan Milosevic s war did not add up to 1 percent of the dead in Mr. Lincoln s war. Albanians did flee in the tens of thousands during the war. But since that war s end, the Serbs of Kosovo have seen their churches and monasteries smashed and vandalized and have been ethnically cleansed in the scores of thousands from their ancestral province. In the exodus, they have lost everything. The remaining Serb population of 120,000 is largely confined to enclaves guarded by NATO troops. At a Serb monastery in Pec, writes the Washington Post, Italian troops protect the holy site, which is surrounded by a massive new wall to shield elderly nuns from stone-throwing and other abuse by passing ethnic Albanians. On Sunday, Kosovo declared independence and was recognized by the European Union and President Bush. But this is not the end of the story. It is only the preface to a new history of the Balkans, a region that has known too much history. By intervening in a civil war to aid the secession of an ancient province, to create a new nation that has never before existed and, to erect it along ethnic, religious and tribal lines, we have established a dangerous precedent. Muslim and Albanian extremists are already talking of a Greater Albania, consisting of Albania, Kosovo and the Albanian-Muslim sectors of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. If these Albanian minorities should demand the right to secede and join their kinsmen in Kosovo, on what grounds would we oppose them? The inviolability of borders? What if the Serb majority in the Mitrovica region of northern Kosovo, who reject Albanian rule, secede and call on their kinsmen in Serbia to protect them? Would we go to war against Serbia, once again, to maintain the territorial integrity of Kosovo, after we played the lead role in destroying the territorial integrity of Serbia? Inside the U.S.-sponsored Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the autonomous Serb Republic of Srpska is already talking secession and unification with Serbia. On what grounds would we deny them? The U.S. war on Serbia was unconstitutional, unjust and unwise. Congress never authorized it. Serbia, an ally in two world wars, had never attacked us. We made an enemy of the Serbs, and alienated Russia, to create a second Muslim state in the Balkans. By intervening in a civil war where no vital interest was at risk, the United States, which is being denounced as loudly in Belgrade today as we are being cheered in Pristina, has acquired another dependency. And our new allies, the KLA, have been credibly charged with human trafficking, drug dealing, atrocities and terrorism. And the clamor for ethnic selfrule has only begun to be heard. Rumania has refused to recognize the new Republic of Kosovo, for the best of reasons. Bucharest rules a large Hungarian minority in Transylvania, acquired at the same Paris Peace Conference of 1919 where Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina were detached from Vienna and united with Serbia. Abkhazia and South Ossetia, two provinces that have broken away from Georgia, are invoking the Kosovo precedent to demand recognition as independent nations. As our NATO expansionists are anxious to bring Georgia into NATO, here is yet another occasion for a potential Washington-Moscow clash. Spain, too, opposed the severing of Kosovo from Serbia, as Madrid faces similar demands from Basque and Catalan separatists. The Muslim world will enthusiastically endorse the creation of a new Muslim state in Europe at the expense of Orthodox Christian Serbs. But Turkey is also likely to re-raise the issue as to why the EU and United States do not formally recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Like Kosovo, it, too, is an ethnically homogeneous community that declared independence 25 years ago. Breakaway Transneistria is seeking independence from Moldova, the nation wedged between Rumania and Ukraine, and President Putin of Russia has threatened to recognize it, Abkhazia and South Ossetia in retaliation for the West s recognition of Kosovo. If Putin pauses, it will be because he recognizes that of all the nations of Europe, Russia is high among those most threatened by the serial Balkanization we may have just reignited in the Balkans.
