4 Danube Stakeholders Celebrate Year One of the Strategy The Key Stakeholders High Level Meeting Competitiveness and Innovation for Jobs and Economic Recovery in the Danube Region took place jointly at the Romanian Academy and Haus der Donau / Ghica Palace in Bucharest, on June 28-29, 2012, and addressed the main actors involved in the implementation process of the Strategy. The event was meant to promote innovation as the key element to reinforce European competitiveness and set its economic growth, to create jobs and improve the life standards of the citizens. 5 The Concept As a Forum for Cooperation with a multi-stakeholder approach government ministries, European Commission, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, academic and financial institutions, local and regional networks, etc - the Danube Alliance is celebrating one year of action since the endorsement of the EU strategy for the Danube Region by the European Council in June The current state of play translates into the establishment of a valuable cooperation platform at macro-regional level whose efficiency has already been proved in relation to research opportunities and innovative approaches: innovation at all levels products, services and business models, combined with institutional capacity building.

Urban areas are the frontline in the battle for social cohesion and environmental sustainability. Energy Efficiency & Environment Critical Infrastructure INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING Rural & Regional Development Culture & Tourism Industry is a core driving force behind the technical and technological innovation required for greater sustainability and resource efficiency. Energy efficiency is one of the most cost effective ways to enhance security of energy supply, and to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. Energy efficiency, Europe's biggest energy resource. The agri-food value chain in the Danube macro region provides the biggest share in employment and business activities. Tourism is a key sector of the European economy. It comprises a wide variety of products and destinations and involves many different stakeholders. Culture and heritage have an important role in the formulation and delivery of added-value to regional strategies for sustainable tourism development.
