2 The annual publication Events in Serbia, published by the National Tourism Organisation of Serbia (NTOS), aims to inform the public about numerous festivities, performances, fairs, cultural, sports and other events which greatly enriches Serbia s tourism offer. Both domestic and international tourists are especially interested in festivities that preserve tradition, custom, folklore and handicrafts. Most of the festivities are held during the summer, around dates that are historic benchmarks in the annual rural calendar such as sowing, harvesting, fruit picking and other summertime events. All the festivals share one common attribute, and that is that they are very well attended and hugely popular. At Festival time all host venues enjoy a major surge in visitor numbers and many, especially those with a long standing historic significance, have a loyal following that return year after year to actively participate. These festivals are of particular importance to both our domestic and international tour operator partners as they represent considerable scope and opportunity due to their mass appeal. The festivities and events featured in this calendar demonstrate first-hand the creativity and spiritual heritage of the Serbian people, and offer a new dimension to the tourism offer which is important to both the regions in which they are held and the country at large. The diversity and richness of Serbia s folklore is expressed through these numerous festivities, which is an example of how these festivals both encourage and aid the development and appreciation of Serbia s art and culture. THE 2018 CALENDAR FEATURES MORE THAN 200 EVENTS IN SERBIA, NAMELY: 1 Tourist Festivities nurturing and promoting folklore The Dragacevo Trumpet Festival (Dragačevski sabor trubača), The Pipe-Player Festival in Prislonica (Sabor frulaša), The Homolje Motifs of Kucevo (Homoljski motivi), The Shepherd Days of Kosjeric (Čobanski dani), I Passed through Levac I Crossed Sumadija (Prodjoh Levač prođoh Šumadiju), local festivities Golden Hands (Zlatne ruke) and other events. 2 Gastronomic Festivities Leskovac Barbeque festival (Roštiljijada), Kacarevo s Bacon exhibition (Slaninijada), Turija s Sausage Festival (Kobasicijada), Fish Soup Contests in Apatin, Golubac, Veliko Gradiste and other places. Art and Culture Festivals Belgrade International Theater Festival (BITEF), Sterija s Theater Festival, Belgrade Summer Festival (BELEF), Belgrade Music Festivities (BEMUS), Vuk Karadzic Festival (Vukov sabor), Belgrade International Film Festival (FEST), International Film Festival at the Palic Lake, Marble and Sounds (Mermer i zvuci) and other festivals.

Actors, singers, street orchestras, folklore ensembles and others take part in the programme. KÜSTENDORF FILM The festival s founder, director and programme selector is renowned filmmaker Emir Kusturica. Dedicated to great contemporary authors and future filmmakers. RAJAC EXIT 2018 The largest music festival in Southeast Europe, EXIT has been staged in Novi Sad s enchanting Petrovaradin Fortress every year since The number of EXIT visitors is growing each year, with young people flocking from all over Europe. The festival attracts such an overwhelming turnout not only thanks to its attractive music program, but also thanks to great fun, the good atmosphere inside the Fortress, and positive energy of Novi Sad. SHEPHERD DAYS A festivity showcasing shepherd way of life and customs, songs and dances; girls beauty contests, and costume, traditional cooking and handicraft competitions; exhibitions of paintings, field tools, artisan objects, fruit and vegetable preserves and honey products; shepherd story-telling. 1 RAJAC SCYTHE An event dedicated to reaping and harvesting carried out by husking bees. Local and foreign participants compete in the reaping of mountain grass. Reapers wear national costumes, straw hats, and colorful shoulder bags. It starts from Ingolstadt in Germany and ends in Silistra in Bulgaria, at the end of August.
