2 [overview] The Tick and Tick-Borne is the biggest scientific event in the field and is organized every 3 years. We are pleased to host the 10th Tick and Tick Borne in one of the most well-preserved wetland in the world, the unique landscape Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. The conference will be held at Puflene Resort in Murighiol, Danube Delta, Romania between 24 and 28 August 2020 and is organized by the Department of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca, Romania in collaboration with the Danube Delta Research Institute in Tulcea. The scientific topics cover taxonomy and evolution, genetics and genomics, ecology and epidemiology, spatial modelling, diagnosis and treatment, immunity and vaccines, infection and pathogenesis. In addition to the technical program, various other social activities are organized: birdwatching and sightseeing, boat trips, photo contests, fishing contest etc.

3 [about Danube Delta] The Danube Delta (Romanian: Delta Dunării) is the second largest river delta (5 165 km2) in Europe, is the best preserved on the continent and listed as a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. The Danube branches into three main distributaries into the delta, Chilia, Sulina, and Sfantul Gheorghe, forming in between, intricate networks of channels, lagoons, lakes, and marshlands. The average altitude is 0.52 m a.s.l., with 20% of the territory below sea level. Highest point is 12.4 m at the sand dunes of Letea strandplain. Abundant and unique flora and fauna inhabit this wilderness, with more than 300 species of birds, 42 species of mammals, 21 of species of amphibians and reptiles and 140 species of fish. More than 98% of the aquatic European fauna lives here. Almost 4000 invertebrate species have been reported in Danube Delta. How many tick species in the Danube Delta? Find out later. And one more fact: Danube Delta is in Romania and very close to the locality where Victor Babes described for the first time the piroplasms, known today as Babesia.

4 [about the venue] The main venue of the meeting will be Puflene Resort, located at the margin of Murighiol Lake. The total area of 10 ha includes the good style, refinement and elegance in the middle of nature. The venue offers opportunities for various activities for conference participants and for accompanying persons. These activities include birdwatching, fishing, pedal boating, boat trips, roadtrips to neighbouring historical sites. The venue is accessible by road from Bucharest (Otopeni Airport) or Constanta.
