The pagoda was constructed in 1049 by King Ly Thai Tong according to his dream of Bodhisattva seating on a lotus flower and led him to the pagoda. In 1954, the pagoda was destroyed by the French before their withdrawer. After taking over the city on October 10th 1954, Vietnam Ministry of Culture restored the pagoda. The pagoda of today remains since this restoration. The entire town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Start the day at Wat Visoun (Wat Wisunalat). The oldest living temple in Luang Prabang, Wat Visoun dates back to 1513 and contains a collection of antique wooden Buddhas. Visit the nearby Wat Aham before continuing to Wat Xieng Thong, the crowning jewel of all the monasteries and temples in the city. Its many ornate buildings feature exquisite mosaic and gold-stenciled murals. From there, stroll down the main street of Luang Prabang, stopping at some of the many temples that line its sides, including Wat Sibounheuang, Wat Si Moungkhoun, Wat Sop and Wat Sene. Continue to the National Museum (Royal Palace), a modest but graceful building that combines traditional Lao and French beaux-arts motifs. This turn-of-the century royal residence has been preserved, as it was when the royal family last lived here and provides unique insights into the history of Laos. (Closed on Tuesdays). Overnight in Ho Chi Minh city DAY 2: HO CHI MINH CITY - CU CHI TUNNELS HO CHI MINH CITY (Meals: Breakfast) AM: HCM City We start the trip by visitingnotre Dame Cathedral, the historic Central Post Office, followed by exploring the Reunification Palace,andthe remarkable site of the War Remnants Museum, (optional Ben Thanh Market -only drop off). PM: Cu Chi Tunnels Located 60km from HCMC, Cu Chi is now a popular spot for both Vietnamese & foreign tourists - the network of over 200km of tunnels became legendary when they played a vital role in the War. In their heyday, the tunnels were functioning underground cities including numerous trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers & kitchens. Today, ducks and water buffalos happily co-exist in the rivers along the side of the road. However, the peaceful rural rice paddy scenery belies the area s violent history. Visitors will find it hard to imagine the destruction, damage & defoliation over this whole area, caused by bombing and mines. There is plenty of evidence of the fierce battle that took place here during the 1960s when Cu Chi was a "Free Target Zone". Start our tour in the morning, before entering the tunnels visitors can watch a short introductory video showing how the tunnels were constructed. You will spend the next hour exploring the tunnels. 12 0700AM: Pick up then start the trip for some impressive French colonial structures including Notre Dame Cathedral, the Old Central Post Office, the City Hall. Then visiting Reunification palace which was the residence of the President of South Vietnam until end of the war in April AM: We will take a full day trip to the watery world of the Mekong Delta, just 1 hour and half by road from Ho Chi Minh City. We will have a full day trip here to catch a glimpse of the famous Mekong River. Upon arrival we will take a boat trip along narrow waterways overhung with dense vegetation visiting the fish whalf, the 4 famous islands of Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle and Phoenix. Then take a short tour to the bank of Mekong River visiting a rice farm, candy workshop and honey bee farm, then journey by sampan through the canals and mangrove forests where we watch the fishermen lay their fish traps. Enjoy time on the Unicorn island visiting the local fruit, tea mixed with bee s honey, and enjoy a locally produced folkshow of traditional Mekong Delta music. Climb up several rugged stone stairs to see a great lake considered as a royal garden and surrounded by mountains. Its water is blue all year round. 16:00: Back to the cruise and head to Bright Cave - a very beautiful lagoon belongs to Lan Ha bay, Cat Ba Island. Forget about the distance of geography, the cave now introduced by Gray Line Cruise. Visit some tunnel caves by Kayak or bamboo boat. Time to savor the beauty and amazing islet s stalactites in detail. Enjoy swimming around the cruise (upon weather condition). Relax on the sundeck.
