Summer clothes will soon be on display. Joe Medrano The update is a bit early this month because I m off to Mexico and won t be back until February 1, and I didn t want you to miss anything! New trips this year so far ***March 22- The Detroit Institute of Arts plus Charlie Chaplin staring in Modern Times. Let s visit the DIA, the city's crown jewel. The Detroit Institute of Arts opened at its current location, near downtown, in 1927, during the post World War I auto-industry boom that made Detroit one of the world's wealthiest cities. Thursdays at the Museum presents a free showing of Modern Times staring Charlie Chaplin. This comedic masterpiece finds the iconic Little Tramp (Charlie Chaplin) employed at a state-of-the-art factory where the inescapable machinery completely overwhelms him, and where various mishaps keep getting him sent to prison. In between his various jail stints, he meets and befriends an orphan girl (Paulette Goddard). $25 for residents of Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties (ID required at check in these counties pay additional millage) $33 for all others ***April 29 Matthaei Gardens and Daddy Long Legs at the DIO Dinner Theatre in Pinckney. Based on the classic novel which inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire, Daddy Long Legs is a beloved tale in the spirit of Jane Austen, The Brontë Sisters and Downton Abbey.
