The Temple of Literature was Vietnam s first university and it was established to educate Vietnam s royalty, mandarins and members of the elite. The university functioned for an incredible 700 years and its gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam s past. Enjoy the tours offered on-board, learn more about the main livelihood of the locals in the area or simply choose to relax. Towards the end of the day the boat sets anchor for the night among the karst formations and dinner is served on-board. 11 DAY HO CHI MINH CITY Drive away from Ho Chi Minh City, watching the city skyline fade into the distance as the road winds through rice paddies, villages and other scenes typical to southern Vietnam. We spend a couple of hours walking around Cu Chi s rugged grounds with a local guide. Hear how the residents constructed an intricate, underground network of tunnels during the French and American Wars. Hear incredible tales about the unusual foods the residents ate to survive and much more. Once above ground, see other ingenious items used by the residents to defend themselves such as bamboo traps and camouflaged pits. Upon your return in Ho Chi Minh City, you re free to spend the afternoon at leisure. Excursion: Cu Chi Tunnels tour Meals: Breakfast Evening Saigon street food tour Market in town. Return to your Star- Ship and sail to My An Hung village. In the afternoon, as part of your PLUS program, explore this lovely and unspoiled place. PLUS Visit to My An Hung village Excursion: Visit to Chinese Congregational house in Kien An Cung and Home of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le DAY 5 HONG NGU AN LONG LONG KHANH This morning is yours to enjoy at leisure or, if you prefer, you can take part in the DiscoverMORE optional excursion to the Ramsar Bird Sanctuary. In the afternoon, embark on a visit to the Long Khanh Island. There, you will visit a local family and learn about scarf weaving. Then, visit the Hoa Hao Buddhist pagoda and a grapefruit garden. Return to your Star-Ship and, this evening, you ll be delighted by a Lion Dance performance on-board. Return in the evening, after a full day of exploration, to your traditional junk boat. Bid farewell to the boat on Halong Bay and transfer to Hanoi airport, with a stop en-route for a light lunch at a local restaurant. At the airport in Hanoi, board your flight to Da Nang. Later today, you ll take a half day walking tour to see the old merchant s houses, the Japanese Covered Bridge and the Assembly Hall of the Chinese Congregation. In Hue, you will visit the Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 80 and 945. As part of your PLUS program, take a cyclo (bicycle-style rickshaw) from Dai Noi Old City to Tinh Tam Lake where the emperors used to come to relax. Then later, join a boat trip to visit Thien Mu Pagoda. This evening, you ll experience a traditional royal dinner. Upon arrival, you ll transfer to your hotel for your twonight stay. In the afternoon, enjoy an orientation tour of the city, starting with a visit to its most iconic building, Reunification Palace. Formerly called the Presidential Palace, images of the building were seen around the world on 0 April 975 when tanks stormed the gates as Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese. Then, stroll through Ho Chi Minh City s Colonial Quarter, witnessing everyday life on the way. Admire the beautiful architecture of the Opera House, City Hall and the old Saigon Post Office, listen to the stories about the glory days of French Indochina and how that era continues to influence aspects of modern Vietnamese culture. Afterwards, visit the home of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, who inspired Marguerite Duras novel, L Amant, and take a walk through the Central Visit to Ramsar Bird Sanctuary DAY 6 HONG NGU VIETNAM / CAMBODIA BORDER CROSSING PHNOM PENH As part of your PLUS program, visit a unique family-owned Lanh My A silk producing factory. By asking us to confirm your booking, we are entitled to assume that you have had the opportunity to read and have read these booking conditions and agree to them. Except where otherwise stated, these booking conditions only apply to tour arrangements (including pre and post tour accommodation, activities and other services) which you book with us in the UK and pay for before departure from the UK and which we agree to make, provide or perform (as applicable) as part of our contract with you. All references in these booking conditions to holiday, booking, cruise, tour or arrangements mean such tour arrangements unless otherwise stated. We will notify you no less than 0 days prior to the departure date of the tour if we have to cancel or significantly change a tour due to lack of numbers.. If you have any special requests (including dietary requirements) you must notify us in writing at the time of booking. Please note special requests cannot be guaranteed. Failure to meet any special request will not be a breach of contract by us. Confirmation that a special request has been noted or passed on to the supplier of any service(s) or the inclusion of the special request on your confirmation invoice or any other documentation is not confirmation that the request will be met. Unless and until specifically confirmed, all special requests are subject to availability. For your own protection, you should obtain confirmation in writing that a special request will be complied (where it is possible to give this) where it is important to you. We cannot accept any conditional bookings, i.e. any booking which is specified to be conditional on the fulfilment of a particular request. All such bookings will be treated as standard bookings subject to the above provisions on special requests. Payment 4. To make a booking, you must pay the applicable deposit of a minimum of 750 per person if travelling in Economy flight class. Deposit will be higher if travelling in Premium Economy or Business Class full payment if booking 90 days or less before the start of the holiday. If you make a provisional booking the deposit or full payment, as applicable, must be received by us within seven days of the provisional booking to ensure a place on the tour is held. We will automatically assume that you do not wish to proceed with a booking if the applicable deposit or full payment, is not received by us within this seven day period and we will have no further liability to you. Any accommodation, sightseeing or flights we book for you which are separate to those stated in your itinerary are not included in the deposit or tour price. An extra payment will be required to cover the costs of these additional services, and these services will not be booked until both your holiday deposit and additional service costs are paid in full. 5. Deposits are non-transferable and non-refundable except as expressly set out in these terms and conditions. We therefore recommend that you take out adequate insurance prior to booking. 6. The balance of the tour price (after deduction of the applicable deposit) must be received by us no less than 90 days prior to the start of your tour. If we do not receive all payments due (including any surcharge where applicable) in full and on time, we are entitled to assume that you wish to cancel your booking. In this case, we will be entitled to keep all deposits paid or due at that date. If we do not cancel straight away because you have promised to make payment, you must pay the cancellation charges shown in these terms and conditions depending on the date we reasonably treat your booking as cancelled. 7. Except for flight inclusive bookings, all monies you pay to one of our authorised travel agents for your holiday with us will be held by the agent on your behalf until a contract between us comes into existence. After that point, your agent will hold the monies on our behalf until they are paid to us. For flight inclusive bookings, all monies paid to any authorised travel agent of ours for your holiday with us will be held on behalf of and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust subject to the travel agent s obligation to pay such monies to us in accordance with our trading terms unless we fail. In the unlikely event of our financial failure, all monies then held by the travel agent or subsequently paid by you to the travel agent will be held by the agent on behalf of and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust without any obligation on the agent to pay such monies to us. Credit & Debit Card Payments 8. There is no fee for all payments. Your contract 9. Subject to availability we will confirm your booking by issuing our confirmation invoice. This invoice will be sent to the lead name on the booking ( Lead Name ) or your Travel Agent. Please check this invoice carefully as soon as you receive it. Contact us immediately if any information on the confirmation or any other document appears to be incorrect or incomplete as it may not be possible to make changes later. We cannot accept any liability if not notified of any inaccuracy in any document within 7 days of our sending it out. We will do our best to rectify any mistake notified to us outside these time limits but you must meet any costs involved in doing so. 0. A binding contract between you and us comes into existence when we issue our confirmation invoice. We both agree that English law (and no other) will apply to your contract and to any dispute, claim or other matter of any description which arises between us ( claim ) (except as set out below). We both also agree that any claim (and whether or not involving any personal injury) must be dealt with by the Courts of England and Wales only unless, in the case of court proceedings, you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland. In this case, proceedings must either be brought in the courts of your home country or those of England and Wales. If proceedings are brought in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may choose to have your contract and any claim or other matter of any description which arises between us governed by the law of Scotland/Northern Ireland as applicable (but if you do not so choose, English law will apply). What are your on-tour obligations?. (a) You must follow the Tour Director s instructions at all times. You acknowledge that failure to do so may result in restricted access to areas on tour, or if necessary for your own safety and/or that of other passengers, withdrawal from the tour. (b) We expect all clients to have consideration for other people. If in our reasonable opinion, or in the reasonable opinion of any other person in authority, you behave in such a way so as to cause or be likely to cause danger, upset or distress to yourself or any third party or damage to property we are entitled, without prior notice, to terminate the tour of the person(s) concerned. We will not be liable to you for any loss, cost or damage resulting from your withdrawal. If you are withdrawn from the tour, you must make your own return travel arrangements at your own expense. Tour price. Please note, changes and errors occasionally occur. You must check the price of your chosen holiday at the time of booking. We reserve the right to make changes to and correct errors in advertised prices at any time before your holiday is confirmed. We will advise you of any error of which we are aware and of the then applicable price at the time of booking. Once the tour price has been confirmed at the time of booking, clause below will apply.. Once your tour price has been confirmed at the time of booking, then subject to the correction of errors, it will only be increased or decreased in the following circumstances. A surcharge or refund (as applicable) will be payable, subject to the conditions set out below, in the event of any change in our transportation costs or in dues, taxes, fuel or fees payable for services such as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports or airports increase or decrease or in the exchange rates which have been used to calculate your tour price. Even in the circumstances set out in above, only if the amount of the increase in our costs exceeds % of your tour price (excluding insurance premiums and any amendment fee) will we levy a surcharge. If any surcharge is greater than 0% of your tour price (excluding insurance premiums and any amendment fee), you will be entitled to cancel your booking and receive a full refund of all monies you have paid to us (except for any amendment fee) or alternatively purchase another tour from us see clause 8. You have 4 days from the issue date printed on the surcharge invoice to tell us if you wish to cancel or purchase another tour where applicable. Otherwise, we are entitled to assume that you do not wish to do so and will pay the surcharge. Any surcharge must be paid with the balance of the tour price or within 4 days of the issue date printed on the surcharge invoice, whichever is the later. Please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the tour price due to contractual and other protection in place. A refund will only be payable if the decrease in our costs exceeds % as set out above. Where a refund is due, we will pay you the full amount of the decrease in our costs. The tour brochure and these terms and conditions are valid for the departure dates as stated in the tour brochure unless extra dates are added or otherwise expressly advised by us. Variation or cancellation by us 6. We start planning the tours we offer many months in advance. Occasionally, we have to make changes to and correct errors in the details of advertised tours both before and after bookings have been confirmed and cancel confirmed bookings. 7. In the event of industrial action affecting air, rail, cruise or other tour related transportation we will make every effort to contact the lead name and advise of alternative arrangements (if any). However, if contact is not made, you should phone Whilst we always endeavour to avoid changes and cancellations, we must reserve the right to do so. Due to the nature of our itineraries, which are dependent on the safe navigation of national and international waterways over which we have no control, it is therefore not always possible for our vessels to sail or call at all ports as planned or foresee when this may occur.
