This evening an Informational meeting will be held at hotel to brief you about day 2 charter flight to Havana and start of your people to people experience to Cuba. The evening is at leisure. Day 2: Miami - Bienvenidos a La Havana Cuba (L,D) This morning transfer to Miami International Airport and check in for your flight to Havana, Cuba. Upon arrival at Jose Marti International Airport and clearing customs, we ll meet our local bilingual Cuban Guide outside baggage terminal. Your drive from airport orients you with Cuba s enigmatic capital city, whose nearly 500-year old Habana Vieja (Old Havana), is home to largest collections of Spanish-Colonial architecture in Americas. Make a photo stop and learn more about Plaza of Revolution, center of Cuban political life and Havana s largest plaza where huge rallies are held. Your guide speaks below grandiose portraits of national heroes Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, and gives you time to reflect on fact that you re standing where millions of Cubans have stood while listening to speeches of Fidel Castro. Afterwards, enjoy a sample of rum produced in factory. Next enjoy a guided walking tour of pedestrian only Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See beautiful Cadral de la Havana, built in baroque style in 1748 and learn about its preservation and continuous restoration. Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier described building as music turned to stone. Next visit Marqueta Vieja Habana Museum that houses scale model of City of Havana and to meet with an expert on city s architecture and restoration efforts. Following lunch in Old Havana, we head to charming fishing village of Jaimanitas to visit incredible home and work shop of world famous artist, painter and ceramicist Jose Fuster, often called Picasso of Cuba. He has adorned more than 80 houses with colorful ornate murals and domes. Here we spend time with Fuster family and meet Fuster himself (if home) as well as local residents of town to discuss influence of artist s work and ir lives and community. This evening, after dinner in a local restaurant we head to world famous Tropicana Cabaret Show. The Tropicana Cabaret opened in 1939 and is an extravagant spectacle with a revue of glamour and nostalgia. Before revolution, Tropicana was a casino owned by gangsters and visited by Rich and Famous. An evening of music and history that is not to be missed at this famous nightclub show that presents song-and-dance performances reminiscent of 1950 s Cuba. Day 4: Havana - Colon Cemetery - Museum of Revolution (B,L) Religion has always played an important role in Cuban society that continues today. This morning enjoy a walking tour with a local historian of fascinating Colon Cemetery (Cemeterio de Cristobal Colon), founded in 1876 and named for Christopher Columbus. The cemetery is noted for its many elaborate sculpted memorials and contains more than 500 major mausoleums, chapels and family vaults and is considered by many to be most ornate necropolis in world and is final resting place for noted Cubans including artists, writers, musicians and ballplayers. Next tour famous Museum of Revolution that displays documents and artifacts, weapons and planes from revolution. See artifacts & learn more about Bay of Pigs, 1961 historic clash between CIA trained Cuban exiles & rebel forces, event that defined US-Cuba relations for decades. The museum is housed in former Presidential Palace which was home to Cuba s leaders from 1920s until This building offers beautiful architecture as well as an interior that was designed by Tiffany s. Next visit San Jose Craft Market and Art Center to meet and interact with local artists to discuss and learn of importance of ir art in Cuban culture. 3 Day 5: Havana (B,L,D) Visit Cuban Literacy Museum where we ll learn about a national effort to educate rural farmers and families. The two things of which Cuba is most proud, and which it most emphasizes, are health care and education. The campaign to make all illiterate Cubans literate within one year was announced by Fidel Castro in his speech to United Nations in By 1961 campaign had largely succeeded. This small museum s treasures include uniforms worn by literacy campaign participants, books, manuals and more. Following lunch at a local restaurant we will visit Lizt Alfonso Dance Studio. She is considered one of finest Flamenco dancers in Cuba. Enjoy a performance and learn about importance of Flamenco dancing with an opportunity to meet and interact with dancers. Next tour National Museum of Fine Arts, opened in 1954 and offering an extensive art collection of works from painters of earliest colonizers of Cuba. Here we meet with a Cuban art expert and local historian for a presentation on importance of Cuban art housed in this magnificent museum. Day 6: Havana - Vinales Valley (UNESCO) - Pinar Del Rio - Havana (B,L) Today we travel out of Havana and into rural Cuban countryside to Vinales Valley located in western most mountainous range in Cuba and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This region, western province of Pinar del Rio is known for its stunning scenery, a landscape of prehistoric looking flat-top mountains or mogotes, tobacco plantations, caves and rivers. Stop at Francisco Donatien Cigar Factory for a guided visit to learn about manufacturing of fine Cuban cigars and interact with factory workers about history and process. The factory specializes in Cohiba & Monte Cristo cigars. Next, visit a traditional Tobacco Farm and Farmhouse to meet with farmer to learn about tobacco cultivation, drying process and experience a cigar rolling demonstration inside drying hut. Enjoy a visit inside his farmhouse, meeting and interacting with his family while enjoying some Cuban coffee. A great opportunity to witness up close, how Cuban families live in a rural setting. Later stop at Los Jasmines viewpoint for incredible views of Vinales Valley and an opportunity to enjoy spectacular scenery and take panoramic pictures of this beautiful region. Day 7: Havana - Guanabacoa - Hemingway Farm (B,L,D) This morning we ll venture to Guanabacoa, with its rich religious diversity. This town has some of finest colonial churches where locals worship both Catholic and Santeria Saints. Santeria is a dynamic example of perseverance and inventiveness of West African slaves who were brought to Cuba to work on sugar plantations. We ll visit interesting and eclectic Museo de Guanabacoa of Santeria Orishas and see exhibits on Santeria Afro-Cuban culture, a sugarcane machine and an early 1900 s Cadillac. Also enjoy a Santeria dance and music performance by locals with a chance to interact with m. Next enter world of Ernest Hemingway with a visit to Hemingway s Farm, Finca La Vigia (meaning lookout house ). This beautiful property hosts house where Nobel Prize winner lived with his wife Martha for 21 years. View perfectly preserved home where many of Hemingway personal belongings remain intact. View his yacht on display, Pilar in which he used to patrol for Nazis in Caribbean waters and featured in his novel Islands in Stream. Next enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Havana before a visit to Morro Castle, built in 1589 to protect mouth of Havana Harbor. In this case Morro in Spanish means a rock which is very visible from sea and refore serves as a navigational landmark. Perched on headland on opposite side of harbor from Old Havana it can be viewed from miles around as it dominates port entrance. Continue to University of Arts of Cuba (Instituto Superior de Arte), premier school in Cuba for music, visual arts and performing arts. Its housed in a collection of eye popping buildings, a major architectural project completed in early 1960 s. Enjoy a tour of school and its studio space offering insight into ir experience as artists and Cubans. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant this evening. Day 8: Depart Havana - USA (B) Following breakfast at hotel, we ll transfer to airport for our return flights home with incredible memories of people, music and culture of Cuba. 4 DISCOVER CUBA FAQ & TRAVEL TIPS As of March 2013 Is travel to Cuba legal? Yes. Traveling on a People-to-People itinerary operated under a Specific License granted by United States Department of Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), you are legally licensed and authorized to travel to Cuba. Before departing on your trip, we will give you a Letter of Authorization stating that you have permission to travel under our license to keep as part of your travel documents. Please note that you will not be traveling to Cuba as a tourist, you will be traveling as part of a People-to-People cultural exchange. What is people-to-people travel? People-to-People travel is an initiative allowing U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba on a limited basis to participate in cultural experiences and have direct contact with Cuban people in order to learn more about m and ir culture. A highly rewarding educational experience, People-to-People travel encourages your direct engagement with Cuban people you will meet during activities focusing on education and cultural exchange. Who is OFAC, and what does it do? The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on U.S. foreign policy. Information on OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control), current U.S. Government sanctions on Cuba, and rules governing U.S. citizens travel to Cuba can be found in Resource Center of U.S. Department of Treasury website: What if I am a Cuban-born U.S. citizen traveling to Cuba? Guests who are Cuban-born U.S. citizens fall into one of two categories for travel to Cuba. Those who departed Cuba prior to December 31, 1970 will require eir a PE- 11 visa (which can take from four to six weeks to process, is valid for a one-time entry for 30 days, and expires within 90 days of issue), or a Cuban passport; choice is up to traveler. Those who left Cuba after January 1, 1971 will require a Cuban passport, which can take from three to four months to obtain. If you will need help in obtaining one of se documents, please let us know at time of booking. Can I travel to Cuba if I am a legal U.S. resident but not a U.S. citizen? Yes, you can travel on our program to Cuba if you are not a U.S. citizen but legally reside in U.S., as long as you have a valid passport from your country of citizenship, as well as a residency card or alien card (or green card ) to establish your legal U.S. residency when returning to U.S. from Cuba upon your arrival in Miami. How do we get to Cuba? We will be flying direct from Miami International Airport to Havana. The modern jet service/aircraft used is chartered and is not open to public unless traveling on a licensed Cuba program. What time do flights to Cuba depart US and arrive back in US? On day 2 of our itinerary your charter flight will depart Miami at approximately 9:00 AM and arrive at approximately 10:00 AM in Havana OR depart Miami at 10:30 AM and arriving at approximately 11:30 AM in Havana. On day 8 of our itinerary, your charter flight from Havana to Miami will depart at approximately 11:30 am and arrive at approximately 12:30 noon in Miami. (On some departures an earlier flight departing Havana may be used). If booking your own return flights home from Miami on Day 8, we highly recommend booking a flight departing Miami no earlier than 4:00 PM to allow time should you have any delays departing from Havana and to give yourself plenty of time to clear customs before checking in for your return flight home. Premier World Discovery/CE is not responsible for missed connections when booking your own airfare to and from Miami. How much luggage can we bring? On our programs departing from Miami you are allowed one checked bag ($20-$25) and two small carry-on pieces of luggage. This is not to exceed 44lbs combined weight of checked and carry-on luggage, per person. Excess baggage will be charged at rate of $2 per lb. Baggage amounts / fees are subject to change. What about U.S. airport departure tax? On our programs departing from Miami airport departure tax of approximately $58 per person is included. What hotels will we be staying in on program? The program includes one night in Miami at Miami Airport Hilton OR Miami Airport Sheraton. In Havana you will be staying at 4-Star Melia Havana Hotel and on some departures 4-Star Melia Cohiba Hotel may be used. All hotels are subject to change and all passengers should be flexible due to tremendous demand by American travelers to this destination and limited hotel availability. How do I sign up / deposit on program? Deposits are $500 per person and due with your completed Reservation Form to secure a seat on program. All space is on a first come first served basis and we highly recommend signing up early due to such high demand with departures selling out very quickly. Checks must be made payable to Premier World Discovery/CE. Final payment will be due 75 days prior to departure. Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard & Discover) are accepted forms of payment for deposit and final payments. Who are Cuban Tour Guides? All programs begin in Havana, where guests meet with ir professionally trained English speaking Cuban Tour Guide. Your Cuban Tour Guide will work with you to ensure each individual has most rewarding experience possible. Trained in history of island, and known throughout cities and towns you explore, you will be met with smiles and welcoming arms everywhere. Your Cuban Tour Guide will provide you with direct access to people, places and cultural visits outlined in your itinerary and will introduce you to real Cuba, its people and culture. A Tour Manager/Representative will be in Cuba as well to assist with program needs. Do we travel with a group? Our small group sized departures provide our travelers with opportunity to enjoy interactions with people who know country best local people. Chances are you ll also travel with like-minded individuals who will share in experiences and culture of Cuba. Do I need a visa to travel to Cuba? Yes, Cuba requires all tourists to have a Cuban Visa (sometimes referred to as a Tourist Card). We book your flights to Cuba and your Cuban Visa will be given to you in Miami eir at your hotel or at check-in at Miami airport. We require a copy of your passport at time of reservation. Do I need a passport to travel to Cuba? Yes, a valid U.S. passport is required to participate. We suggest that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond travel dates. Please make note of expiration date and renew your passport if it is nearing expiration. Generally, Cuban officials refrain from stamping U.S. passports. Non U.S. citizens are allowed to travel on our program. We will require a copy of participant s passport and green card upon initial deposit and reservation. How are Americans generally received in Cuba? Cubans are commonly described as being outgoing, friendly, fun, respectful, and above all welcoming to foreign guests. Try to return ir courtesy by being open-minded and respectful towards ir culture and lifestyles, and share in fun with m during spontaneous experiences that arise during your visit. They feel a kinship to Americans and are thrilled to have opportunity to meet you. What time zone is Cuba in? Cuba is same as Eastern Standard Time in America. Please note that Cuba also follows Daylight Saving Time. What are opening hours for banks and shops? Information found below varies depending upon specific establishment. If possible, it is always best to check in advance. Working hours in Cuba are from 8am-5:30pm during weekdays, while banks operate from 8am-3pm. Is tipping for services necessary in Cuba? Tipping is greatly appreciated for services received that are not included in your program. (Cab drivers, wait staff, barmen, etc.) This provides considerable supplementary income for Cubans and is usually expected. How much do I tip Cuban guide, Tour Manager and Driver? Tips for your Cuban guide, driver and Tour Manager/ Representative are NOT included in program price. We recommend budgeting a minimum of $115 CUC local currency total per person for se gratuities (approximately $125 U.S.) We highly recommend $55 CUC per person for Cuban Tour Guide, $30 CUC per person for driver and $30 CUC per person for Tour Manager/Representative. Gratuities provide a considerable supplementary income and are appreciated for excellent service. The gratuities are given out by each traveler individually usually last night of tour or morning of last day of program prior to departing Havana.

5 DISCOVER CUBA FAQ & TRAVEL TIPS As of March 2013 Do I need to keep a travel log? Yes, each traveler must keep a record of all transactions undertaken during program, and should be made available for examination upon demand for at least 5 years from date of event. In addition OFAC may require traveler to produce a detailed report of activities undertaken in pursuant with people to people program/license. Can I use credit or debit cards in Cuba? Credit cards and debit cards issued by U.S. banks CANNOT be used in Cuba. Please keep this in mind as you prepare for your program. Be sure to bring a sufficient amount of cash with you as you will not be able to access cash or your funds while in Cuba. Can I use traveler s checks in Cuba? It is possible to bring traveler's checks to Cuba. However, y can only be cashed in very specific hotels in Havana. Traveler's checks used in Cuba are not insured, thus losing ir primary feature. They are also subject to an additional exchange fee. At this time, we do not advise or recommend that our program participants rely on or bring traveler's checks as a monetary resource to Cuba. What is currency used in Cuba? The currency for foreigners to use in Cuba is Cuban Convertible Peso (CUC). The exchange rate is subject to change at any time, and for most up-to-date information, we encourage you to visit Cuba operates on a dual-economy, which means that foreigners use one currency (CUC s), while Cubans use Cuban pesos, which are also called Moneda Nacional (CUP). Foreigners are not supposed to change ir CUC s into pesos and are expected to use CUC s for ir purchases. CUC s come in following denominations: 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100. Newer / crisp U.S. bills are recommended for exchange to CUC, in rare instances older / worn U.S. bills are not accepted. Can I buy or sell Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC) outside of Cuba? No, Cuban currency is not part of international currency exchange. Therefore, you will be unable to buy or sell it anywhere but in Cuba. Can I exchange money in Cuba? Yes. Once in Cuba, airport, tourist hotels, banks and official exchange bureaus operated by CADECA can exchange American or Euro currency for you. Banks are usually open from 8am to 3pm, Monday-Friday. Hotels often have more flexible hours. The process of exchanging money is similar to any or country. Proper ID (passport) is required. Can I bring cameras or video recorders to Cuba? You are allowed to bring one camera and one (amateur) video recorder to Cuba, which will be X-rayed upon your arrival at Havana airport. Official permission from Cuban government is required to bring expensive, professional video graphic equipment that will be used for journalistic purposes. Are re restrictions on what I can photograph in Cuba? You are free to take pictures of just about anything in Cuba. Similar to most countries, you should avoid taking pictures of airports, certain government buildings, military or industrial installations, and officials in uniform. In short, exercise common sense, ask permission, and refrain from photographing a subject if you have any doubts about its legality. Orwise, Cubans are quite willing to be subjects of some of your most memorable photos. It is polite in any culture to ask permission before taking someone s photo, and Cuba is no exception. What is food like in Cuba? Cuban cuisine is a fusion of Spanish, African and Caribbean cuisines. Cuban recipes share spices and techniques with Spanish and African cooking, with some Caribbean influence in spice and flavor. This results in a unique, interesting and flavorful blend of several different cultural influences. A small, but noteworthy, Chinese influence can also be accounted for, mainly in Havana area. During colonial times, Cuba was an important port for trade, and many Spaniards who lived re brought ir culinary traditions along with m. Anor important factor is that Cuba itself is an island, making seafood something that greatly influences Cuban cuisine. Anor contributing factor to Cuban cuisine is fact that Cuba is in a tropical climate. The tropical climate produces fruits and root vegetables that are used in Cuban dishes and meals. Do I need an electrical adapter and converter? Cuba uses mostly two and three-pronged outlets, but you may find or outlets which cannot accommodate your devices. Therefore, it is recommended that you bring a multiadapter. The most common electrical voltage in Cuba is 110 volts, although some hotels use 220 volts. It is also suggested that you bring a 110/220 voltage converter to be sure that all of your electrical devices work properly. Is Internet access available in Cuba? Although Meliá Havana Hotel and Meliá Cohiba Hotel have business centers where Internet usage by minute or hour is available for a fee, internet service may not be reliable or up to standards you may be accustomed to at home, with spotty wireless service, slow connection speeds etc. How much are international calls from Cuba? On average, calling from a tourist hotel costs approximately $3 per minute. It is advisable that you always check rates before making an international call, regardless of country you are in. Can I use my cell phone in Cuba? No, it is very difficult to use a U.S. cell phone in Cuba. Alternatively, calling from your hotel phone might be a far easier option. Anor option might be to try and replace SIM card in your phone/device. You may purchase m upon your arrival in Cuba. However, SIM cards can be quite expensive, and minute usage associated with m often is as well. Please plan on not being able to communicate via your cell phone while on this program. What goods can I bring back to U.S.? Due to U.S. sanctioned embargo, U.S. government routinely confiscates goods purchased in Cuba which are of Cuban origin. The only exception to this regulation is informational materials such as books, artworks, posters, photographs, music / CD s & clothing. Paintings may be subject to a 10% tax upon leaving Cuba. It is not permissible to bring back purchased goods such as Cuban cigars, rum or coffee, even if items were purchased at a duty-free shop in Havana Airport. What is wear like in Cuba? Cuba has a very pleasant semi-subtropical climate, which is generally warm year-round. Regional variations and trade winds do account for fluctuations. Cuba s average mean temperature is approximately 78 F. Compared to most countries, Cuba experiences little seasonal variation, although months of July and August can be much warmer and humid with an average temperature of 90 F. Is Cuba safe for travelers? Cuba is very safe by any world standards, and average visitor has little reason to worry about personal safety on streets, in hotels or any or areas/places you will visit on your program. Do I need medical/health insurance to travel to Cuba? Since April 2010, Cuban government requires that all travelers to Cuba must have Cuban health insurance under an approved plan. Your health, standard of care, and safety are of utmost importance to us. When you enroll in our program to Cuba, you automatically receive Cuban health and medical evacuation insurance. This policy is not supplemental and provides you with full coverage while in Cuba. Your CTS Air Ticket will include an official stamp indicating you are covered for Cuban Medical Insurance. Should re be a need, your Cuban Tour Guide will bring you to a hospital or medical facility where you will show air ticket official stamp showing coverage. Your policy information will be included in your documents. What does Cuban health and medical evacuation insurance cover? This policy is not supplemental and provides you with full coverage while in Cuba. The hospitals and medical care in Havana is excellent. Your included Cuban health insurance covers medical expenses because of Illness and accident of up to $25,000 while in Cuba and repatriation and transport of injured or ill/up to $7,000. Some pre-existing conditions may apply. Additional details of coverage will be included in your final program documents. Can I purchase trip cancellation coverage? YES, we highly recommend and provide a Cuba Cancellation Waiver for $250 per person. The Cuba Cancellation waiver covers cancellation prior to departure for a personal illness or death of an immediate family member as well as coverage for unused services on tour should you have to leave program early and return to US due to personal illness or death of an immediate family member. Payment of per person Cuba Cancellation Waiver (waiver fee) guarantees full refund on all payments (including deposit), except waiver fee itself, made for Cuba program rates in case of cancellation up to time & date of departure due to passenger s personal illness (medical documentation required) or death of a member of immediate family (official documentation required).
