1 CAMP DESCRIPTION Our camps are available for campers ages 6 (minimum no exceptions) through 12 (but in all honesty, they seem to be best suited for those aged 8-10)! We have worked hard to provide a complete camp experience with a wide variety of activities each day. Of course, we know that campfires and s mores would be welcome too, but unfortunately, we cannot make those happen, so we try to add extras whenever and wherever we are able. In the mornings, we go bowling and in the afternoon, we have our skating instruction and time to practice skating. In-between, there are snacks, crafts and other organized activities. For our first time campers, please be aware that these are VERY full days, and even though you may have a child who has recently turned 6, sometimes a full day is too much. Our minimum age IS 6 years, however, if your child has not graduated from a full-day kindergarten program, this camp may not be quite right at this time. Our camp days are very busy and even some of the older campers fall asleep before they have finished their supper. It is extremely important that all of our campers get plenty of sleep during camp! DATES This summer we are pleased to offer a total of 9 weeks of Skate Bowl camp. Camp is offered on a weekly basis, but enthusiastic campers may initially register for up to 4 weeks of camp; if we are not sold out, then you may sign up for additional weeks. As we open registration up to previous year s campers first, it is possible for weeks to be sold out prior to becoming available to the general public. Please sign up early for the best selection of weeks to meet your summer plans. We will do our best to process applications quickly so that you can finalize your other plans. You can visit SkateBowl.com to see what weeks are sold out. Please note we update the website about twice a week. Consequently, it is possible the website will be a little behind in displaying sold out weeks. Applications are processed in the order that they are received; weeks are assigned as payments are processed. CANCELLATIONS Cancellations must be received by more than 6-weeks prior to the starting date of the camp session awarded in order to receive a refund less $25 per week cancellation fee. If your cancellation is received 3-6 weeks prior to the starting date of the camp session chosen, you will be eligible for a refund of pre-payment less a $100 cancellation fee. If your cancellation is received less than 3 weeks prior to the starting date of the camp session chosen there will be no refund. LUNCHES & SNACKS Please make sure your camper eats a protein rich breakfast before arriving at camp. We suggest that your camper bring a sack lunch. Camper s lunch/snacks should NOT include candy, as we follow a strict no candy policy for the good of ALL our campers, and we ask that they refrain from purchasing candy from the vending machines. Also, please limit the amount of sugary snacks. We provide a light snack mid-afternoon. We highly encourage our campers to bring a reusable water bottle labeled with the skater s name so they can stay hydrated throughout the day. New this year, you have the option of purchasing a hot lunch each day. The Pinup, the restaurant located above the bowling center, is selling hot lunches to the campers for $8.50 per meal. Each day, there will be a different item available. Prior to each week of camp, you will receive an , which will include that week s menu. Examples of lunch items include chicken bites, hamburger, grilled cheese sandwich, quesadilla; each is served with a choice of waffle fries or carrots & celery. Vegetarian options are also being considered. BE PREPARED Please make sure that your camper has tall athletic socks (no bare feet) for both bowling and ice-skating. For skating, we
3 also recommend warm, comfortable clothing, such as long sleeves and long pants or leggings; gloves or mittens to protect their hands are also a great idea. Please plan on an extra sweatshirt or jacket for warmth as needed, as we are an ice skating center, and it can still get cool inside during the summer! As our daily camp schedule includes some playtime outside in the Gardens each day, we suggest that you include a cap or hat for sun protection, and plan to send a small container of sun block for skin protection! If your child is prone to accidents, please send extra clothes in his/her backpack; s/he must be able to take care of these matters without assistance. Please let us know if your child has any special needs, including the need for medications. Your child must be completely self-sufficient in administering their medication, as our staff cannot assist them with this. Ice skating and other activities have inherent risk of injuries. The only first aid treatment that we can provide is selfadhesive bandages (may contain latex), gauze, water to rinse wounds and ice. We will not bother you with minor scratches and bruises. However, should your child get sick or injured, we will contact you immediately based on the contact information you provide in your application. As with any Summer Camp experience, please make sure that your camper s name is written legibly on all articles of clothing and personal belongings. We recommend that the best way to keep track of your camper s belongings is to send him or her with a well-marked backpack! Simply, do not allow your camper to bring electronic items (e.g., i-pads, i-pods, skateboards, radios, video games, cell phones). If you choose to allow any of these items, please provide your child with $1.00 so that s/he may rent a locker to store their items while attending camp. YBISBC is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items. Please limit the camper s spending money. During camp, campers are not permitted to use the vending machines! ICE SKATING INSTRUCTION Each day, campers receive a half hour of skating instruction, plus additional time to practice. BEGINNING & INTERMEDIATE SKATERS Our campers who are learning the fundamentals of skating will participate in our ISI based skating school. Ice Skating Institute (ISI) is one of two officiating organizations for figure skating in the US. ISI about participation and inclusion, not elimination or exclusion. This is an introduction to the skills required to thoroughly enjoy the sport and create a healthy, fun and safe environment. For first time skaters, your camper will be instructed in the beginner level elements, such as the proper way to fall, the proper way to get up, marching in a standing position and marching while moving through forward stroking, forward crossovers and a one-foot snowplow stop. More advanced skaters will be divided into their skating levels and receive ISI based instruction. At the end of camp, your skater will receive a progress report so that they know what class they are ready to enroll in should they want to continue instruction. ADVANCED SKATERS Our more advanced skaters will participate in our camp skating clinics. These are level based clinics that complement their ISI skating school classes, but provide a change to learn uncaptured moves, link moves to create a program, and provide a fun instructional environment, which is adapted based on the needs of the students. There is no testing for these levels. PRIVATE INSTRUCTION New this summer, we will be offering 20-minute private lessons to our campers. These private lessons are with one of our staff coaches who will work with your skater on a one-onone basis, during the free skate time of camp. You have the option of purchasing either 5 daily lessons for $100, or 3 lessons for $70, or 2 lessons for $50. You will receive an later in the spring with information on signing up for private lessons, which are subject to availability. UPDATES The information in this packet is subject to change. Updates will be sent via . Please read these carefully. CHILD CARE TAX CREDIT CHECK IN/OUT Tuition paid for this camp may be tax deductible, consult your accountant. Please keep your receipts for proof of payment. Requests for duplicate receipts or for our tax id can take several days. Please keep this information along with your ed receipts in a safe place so as to not cause delays in preparing your taxes! Our tax id is While at camp, campers are to wear their nametag at all times. Lost, broken or forgotten nametags are replaced for a $7.50 fee.
4 CHECK-IN Each morning, campers will pick up their nametags and the barcode on the nametag will be scanned to check-in the camper. CHECK-OUT In the afternoon, the camper will return their nametag to the front desk inside the Pro Shop to check-out and you will present your photo ID. At checkout, our staff will check to insure that the person picking up the camper is authorized to do so. As you can imagine, this validation process takes some time, so please be patient and allow for extra time in the event there is a line. To speed things up, we will provide each camper with a set of three Check-Out Keys, which are small plastic ID cards with a barcode, on the first morning of their camp session. You can distribute these to the people who will be picking up your camper. The barcode is scanned validated for quick check-out. Priority is given to people with Check-Out Keys. If you want your camper to be able to check him/herself out of camp, simply give him/her one of the Check-Out keys. If your camper is registered for multiple sessions, they will use their same nametag for all of the weeks, and you will use your same Check-Out Keys. If you would like to purchase additional or replacement Check-Out Keys, they are $7.50 for a set of three. Campers who are skating on freestyle sessions may NOT be checked-in to camp. If skating before camp, skater must check him/herself into camp after they skated. If skating after camp, skater must check him/herself out of camp before starting their freestyle session. Our camp staff is not responsible for campers once they check out of camp. CONTACT CAMP DIRECTOR With questions, reservation cancellation, wait list management, problems, concerns, pickup authorization, etc. SummerCamp@SkateBowl.com FRONT DESK Arriving late to camp, out sick, etc. 415/ ACKNOWLEDGEMENT As part of the application process, you will need to agree to the following terms: I will not drop off my child off early. If my camper has such a device, I will provide him/her with $1 per day to rent a locker to store the device and remove it after s/he is checked out. My camper will take all prescribed medications while attending camp (e.g., please do not use Camp as a ADHD medication holiday; campers require focus throughout the day camp). If my child becomes a disciplinary problem, s/he may be suspended from camp for one or more days without refund, and may not be permitted to attend additional weeks also without refund.
