3 Welcome to Camp Dear Campers, Parents and Grandparents, Merry Christmas! Happy Easter! Joyous Advent, Epiphany, Lent, and Pentecost? Some of these roll off the tongue, but others seem a bit odd. But, in the church year, we celebrate them all. This summer, campers will learn all about the Lutheran church calendar, the holidays and traditions, and the scriptures that tell the story of Jesus life on Earth. Campers will find that God is available all the time, 24/7, not just on Sundays or at Christmas and Easter. Campers will also learn that because of God s love to us is available all the time, our call is to serve and love our neighbor and God. We have opportunities to do this everyday! I love Camp Chrysalis and I can t wait to share this special place with all of you. For 67 years, Camp Chrysalis has been a place of transforming relationships with God, friends, cabin mates, and more. People experience the love of Christ in community and, during times of play, and in the still moments here. Campers have the opportunity to try new things, explore creation, learn from peers and mentors, experience God in new ways, and be who God intended them to be. If you have never been to Camp Chrysalis before...welcome! We are so glad that you came! We will do our best to make this a great experience for you. We know that trying something new can be difficult, but we are here to make this easy for you. Please read through this booklet, as it will answer a lot of questions that you may have about camp. Should you have other questions, please don t hesitate to look on our website, or to or call me directly. Jay@crosstrails.org or (830) We look forward to serving you as Christ served others. Blessings to you this spring and we will see you for camp soon. Jay Miller Director Camp Chrysalis Our Mission The Mission of Cross Trails Ministry is to provide unique settings & experiences in which youth, adults & families are strengthened in their relationship with Christ, each other, the church and community. 2

7 Activity Options We at Cross Trails Ministry want to make this the most enjoyable time possible for you and your family. We have provided options for both you and your youth. All of these options are up to you. Everyday, the Cross Trails Ministry staff will have activities for the younger age group (1-5 years old) and activities for the older age group (6-11). These activities are designed to give campers, both youth and adults, some freedom. If you would like for your child or grandchild to participate in these activities, please drop them off at the activity in the appropriate attire and tell the staff members that will be there. The staff will then care for them, until an adult from the family comes to pick them up at 5:30. Parents or grandparents can take them out of activities early or drop them off later in the afternoon if they would like. Youth Campers under the age of 11 are not allowed to be around the site without adult or staff supervision. We highly recommend all youth be under the supervision of an adult Activity times are also provided for adults. You are encouraged to do as much or as little as you would like. Sign up sheets will be posted on the kiosk near the dining hall. Please sign up for these activities before Turtle Time so our staff can prepare for your arrival at these activities. Meals & Snacks Camp Chrysalis strives to provide nutritious and satisfying meals. Food is an integral part of our program. Campers come together as a community to share a meal and fellowship. Because we are an intentional Christian community, campers are encouraged to mingle and meet new people. As a community, campers take turns serving each other by serving meals, cleaning up after meals and washing dishes. Should your camper not like what is being served, options are available, including cereal at breakfast and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at lunch and dinner. The following is a sample menu for a typical camp day. Breakfast Pancakes, bacon, cereal, milk, fruit & juice. Lunch Sandwich bar, macaroni salad, salad bar, cookies, decaf tea & water. Supper Lasagna, garlic bread, broccoli, salad bar, cake, punch, milk, and water. Snack Rice Crispy Treats. For special dietary needs, please specify on the health form. Campers often expend more energy at camp than at home. For this reason campers are encouraged to eat an appropriate amount of food. 6

9 Summer Offering Cross Trails Ministry wants to give each camper an opportunity to serve once they go home. One of those ways is partnering with an organization that is in a lot of communities around the United States. Meals on Wheels is a community based program that has volunteers deliver meals to people who are homebound. Many of the people who require Meals on Wheels are elderly, people with a disability, or are recovering from hospital care. Volunteers deliver not only needed meals, but also companionship and hospitality to people in need. How can our campers help if they don t have a driver license? There are lots of ways. We are taking a monetary donation from all of our campers to be able to send to Meals on Wheels programs in Central Texas to better our communities. Campers will also learn the effects of aging and how they can show hospitality to people in various stages of life. Campers often feel like they cannot relate to older generations, but with this learning opportunity and some interactive activities, campers will feel more comfortable with these people. This will allow our campers to join in with a driver in their own communities, giving them an option of serving and another way to show Christ s love to everyone. Map of Camp Chrysalis 8
