Tangible Benefits Until relatively recent times, reusable instruments were generally the only option for healthcare professionals. Following concerns on the potential risks of cross infection, plus a growing need for cost reduction, single use instruments were introduced. Class lla devices such as Instrapac require a Notified Body to assess the production of the device to Annex lv, V or Vl of the Directive and issue a certificate of conformance before a CE mark can be applied and the product legally sold. Certification by the British Standards Institution (BSI) verifies that Instrapac products meet fully the requirements of the Directive. Robinson Healthcare also complies with the following standards and has current certification as part of the CE marking process: BS EN ISO 13485:2003 Medical Devices Quality Management System BS EN ISO :1999 Cleanroom Validation and Operation BS EN Sterilisation of Healthcare Products MDD Annex V Production Quality Assurance this is the most critical document and is issued by a Notified Body. It demonstrates that the facilities and systems necessary to secure and maintain the sterility of a product meet the required standards. Instrapac procedure packs are easy to open and use UK Production Facility Robinson Healthcare retain control over the production of Instrapac products by designing the products, specifiying production methods and quality control procedures, inspecting finished product and packing and sterilising at the company s large manufacturing facility in Worksop, UK. A large Class 7 cleanroom provides hygienic packing facilities, with sterilisation carried out in the onsite twin chamber steam autoclave or at an EO gas sterilisation facility in the UK. Products comply with the relevant British Standards for surgical instruments and the quality control team ensure that products meet specification before being released for packing. All metal products are manufactured using medical grade stainless steel. The Instrapac range is packaged in high quality, easy to peel packs which feature indicators to verify that the contents are sterile. All procedure packs are presented wrapped in a sterile field for convenience.
