1 In this unit students will have a basic understanding of hospitality & tourism, explore the relationship and impact of hospitality and tourism on society and explore related careers. Standard 4: Students will explore skills, knowledge and concepts related to College and Career Pathways in Business and Marketing Objective 1: Explore the relationship and impact of business and marketing within travel & tourism. Indicators: Develop basic business soft skills. Understand how to perform basic cashiering functions, e.g. customer communication, problem solving, collecting money, and counting change. Understand economics and how it relates to the success of a business. Explore how financial choices impact outcomes. Explore careers in business, marketing, and related areas. Explore related career pathways.

Travel Agents: sell transportation, lodging, and admission to entertainment activities to individuals and groups planning trips. They offer advice on destinations, plan trip itineraries, and make travel arrangements for clients. Lodging Manager: ensure that guests on vacation or business travel have a pleasant experience at a hotel, motel, or other types of establishment with accommodations. They also ensure that the establishment is run efficiently and profitably. Flight Attendant: provide personal services to ensure the safety and comfort of airline passengers. Airline & commercial pilots: fly and navigate airplanes, helicopters, and other aircraft. Airline pilots fly for airlines that transport people and cargo on a fixed schedule. Commercial pilots fly aircraft for other reasons, such as charter flights, rescue operations, firefighting, aerial photography, and aerial application, also known as crop dusting. Education: Bachelor s degree & pilot s license Water Transportation Occupations: operate and maintain vessels that take cargo and people over water. These vessels travel to and from foreign ports across the ocean, to domestic ports along the coasts, across the Great Lakes, and along the country s many inland waterways. Education: Bachelor s Degree Dancers & Choreographers: express ideas and stories, using dance. There are many types of dance such as ballet, tango, modern dance, tap, and jazz.

Some workers drive trains some coordinate the activities of the trains, while others operate signals and switches in the rail yard. They must know their way around a city in order to take both residents and visitors to their destinations. Education: Less than high school Bus Driver: transport people between various places including work, school, and shopping malls and across state or national borders. Some drive regular routes, and others transport passengers on chartered trips or sightseeing tours. 12 Name Period Travel Itinerary You just got hired on as a travel agent. Congratulations! Your first customer contacted you today and wants to do a 5 day tour of Utah for her, her husband and two junior high kids. This customer is coming in from Texas and has never visited Utah before but has heard plenty about the state and seems very impressed. After visiting Utah, they are going on to California but all they ask is that you help plan a wonderful stay for the 5 days they are visiting the state. They have already taken care of the flight from Texas to Utah SLC International Airport - and from Utah to California. They have also already rented a car to get around. Your worry will be hotel stay, restaurants, and attractions/activities. Also, they ask that you don t go too extravagant but yet not too cheap either.
