1 SWMMC MONTHLY May 2, Volume 3, Issue 3 SOUTHWEST METRO MUSTANG CLUB THE TWIN CITIES MUSTANG CLUB OF AMERICA CHAPTER Getting Started The car season is starting to hit full stride. You need to look no further than the May and early June calendar for proof. Our first cruise, the annual run to King s Bar & Grill in Miesville on Sunday April 17th (National Mustang Day), was a lot of fun with 29 cars and 51 people (see page 3 for more). We had six new members join the club during the month of April. We have our first car show on the 15th and a cruise on the 21st. The Maruska Mustang Run is on the 28th, the Step Up for NF is June 4th and the Shelby Club s car show at Apple Valley Ford is on June 5th Progress on the planning for the national MCA show in 2018 is moving slowly. Not much new to report over the last month hopefully more to report soon. See the blurb below and on page 5. We need your help to make car shows successful. Cars & Coffee May 7th We will attend the C&C as a group on May 7th. If the weather is projected to be nice, the place will be packed. This is our last, best chance to promote the May 15th car show. Come along if you can and help spread the word to fellow Ford owners. We will rally at Kowalski s in Eden Prairie at 6:30am and head out at 6:45am. Early but necessary to get a decent parking spot. Many efforts are under way including: procuring items for show goodie bags, placing flyers and ads for promotion, building trophies, buying RC cars and track for a new show activity, procuring door prizes, working to finalize parking lot logistics, setting up the show parking scheme, coordinating the BSA food help, and organizing registration processes. A number of club members are involved in these efforts. We need help to make the show a success. The list of jobs is listed on page 5. Please contact Pete at tk421tk421@mchsi.com if you can help. Typically members take 1-2 hours of duty during the show. This allows for plenty of time to wonder around and see what is going on. We will be moving cars Saturday May 14th at 5:30pm. We need about 8 people to help move cars to empty the lot. Cookies and soda will be provided. A similar effort will take place after the show on Sunday afternoon. Check out our needs and let me know what you can do. Please plan on attending and helping at the show. It is a great way to meet fellow members and make the day more interesting. Anthony Sagat of Richfield and his 2014 Coupe Bill & Marilyn Tech of Shakopee and their 2013 GT Conv SWMMC Dues for 2016 are payable now. Less than 50% of members have paid. 2 SWMMC MONTHLY May 2, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 3 Page 2 SWMMC Profile: Mike Fredrickson Mike & Beth Fredrickson My love of cars started when I was a small boy with 50 cent Hot Wheels and Matchbox Cars. I had hundreds of them. I enjoyed making model cars. I would paint them, customize them how I thought they would look. Also, I went to car shows and swap meets with my dad throughout my childhood. I remember going to the very first Back to the 50's Car Show at the State Fair and going to the Street Rod Nationals. I think my love of Mustangs came when my dad bought a 1965 baby blue Mustang, 6 cylinder, 3 speed. I thought my dad was the greatest because he could drive a stick shift just like the race car drivers. He's still the greatest, but I soon found out that other dads could also drive a stick shift. He ended up junking it because it had a cracked head. Something that he regrets to this day. Unfortunately that was something that you did in the 70's. As far as my car journey, my first car was a 1969 Mercury Montego I got from my uncle. It sat at the farm for years so we needed to rebuild the motor and transmission along with a lot of body work. Boy was I proud when we got it running. I was 16. Soon after I got side-swiped and that was it. It wasn't worth saving. At 16 I started working at a Sinclair Gas Station in Plymouth after school pumping gas, fixing tires and doing oil changes. Being a typical teenager I never saved enough money to buy my dream car due to girlfriends and general spending. In my senior year I bought a 1974 F100 Pickup. I ended up rebuilding the motor, putting a CAM in it with straight exhaust. It was a fun truck. But after high school, marriage and kids came along so I ended up selling the pickup still dreaming about the mustang that I'll have one day. I was divorced five years later, remarried after a couple more and had another kid. Fast-forwarding 20 years, the kids are all out of school so on Father's Day 2015 I went to look at my dream car at Apple Valley Ford. That evening I spoke with my wife about buying it. The next morning I called to put a hold on it because I knew it would go fast. We left work early and signed the papers. My wife thinks I'm in a mid-life crisis. Finally my dream has come true. Life is good.

3 SWMMC M ONTHLY May 2, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 3 Page 3 SWMMC Cruise to King s Bar & Grill - April 17, 2016 The club celebrated National Mustang Day in grand style with our annual April cruise to King s Bar & Grill in Miesville, MN. Dan Nicewander put together an excellent plan and cruise route from Apple Ford Shakopee to Miesville. To my knowledge no one was lost along the way. Quite a feat given how long the caravan of Mustangs was on the road. The combination of our first cruise of the year, nice weather and a great destination made for a record turn out for a SWMMC cruise. All told there were 28 Mustangs and one Focus ST that were in Miesville for the event. We parked in the lot of the local farm equipment implement dealer and essentially ran out of room. Our thanks to Niebur Tractor & Equipment for the use of their parking lot. King s Bar & Grill was very welcoming to our group of 51 diners. As always the food was perfect and the staff did a great job of keeping up with all the tables. It was nice to see so many members after a long winter especially the six new members that made the trek. King s was gracious enough to give club members 10% off their tabs. The manager even provided some items for our upcoming car shows including apparel and a gift certificate. Our collection of cars garnered some attention from passersby and some drive by traffic. We even had a corvette pull in to see if he could trade his ride in for a Pony. No such luck! Thanks to all who attended, and especially to Dan & Lynn Nicewander for pulling the event together. I am already looking forward to next year s burger.
