Northland For the October run the day dawned fine so the meeting place was outside Pacific Ford Waipapa about a one hour thirty minute drive for some members. After a short break we drove to Rainbow Falls road for a round of Mini Golf. Split into two teams the competition was close but in the closing stage of the round Robin Brady nailed a hole in one to be the outright winner. We then went back to the Tavern for some food and drink and a catch up however the catch up was fairly short as some members had an hours drive to attend their grand child s birthday party. A most enjoyable days outing. Our next outing will be the Maungaturoto Primary School Car & Bike Show on November 25 th. NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 6

Auckland Branch Runs Auckland Farmers Santa Parade After cleaning both the Ute and the Sedan on Saturday, we woke up nice and early on Sunday 25 November to rendevous at the meeting point for the Christmas Parade tow vehicles. It was a chilly day, with some drizzle, with Met Service forecasting some heavy downpours during the day. Don t worry, they never have postponed a parade before we had been told several times, well guess what... We must have jinxed it, the parade was postponed until the following Sunday, so after convincing Peter Arts that he needs another Ford on his lawn for the week, and talking to our Motel, we headed back to Wellington with a new room booking for the following week, and the ute left in Auckland. Round 2, after picking up the ute the following Saturday and giving it another wash (I m sure Auckland birds didn t like the Falcon on the bonnet), we were prepared for another early Sunday morning start. This time the weather was more promising. We were marshelled one vehicle at a time to have our float attached, then we headed in groups of approx 6 vehicles escorted by Police to the marshalling start point. Once there we had a couple of hours to fill in, so were able to wander the streets to view the other floats while crews worked on getting the final touches on the floats we were towing. Just before 1pm, we were all marshalled into the start point and ready to drive (crawl) down Queen Street. The footpaths and part of the streets were crowded with spectators, kids with amazement in their eyes, adults with their phones up taking photos, lots of ohhhhhs and ahhhhhs from everyone watching! I was towing Kermit, he was a very tall float, I had my own escort to ensure the Kermit didn t try to get himself hooked in the trees or traffic lights! All I could see out my rear view mirror was green. Grant had Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, complete with Oompa Loompas and Willy Wonka. The trailer all this was on being almost 3 times longer than the ute! This was a great event, and was awesome being part of something that brought great joy to many, young and old. Alot of work goes into this event, and I d like to thank Peter and all the members who volunteered their vehicles to help make this happen. I would highly recommend that if you have been thinking of doing this, and you have a tow bar on your vehicle, let Peter know and come to Auckland for 2019! Trust us, its only ever been postponed once! NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 7

CNI / Waikato Run - Sat 2 Feb am, five cars assembled in Cambridge for the start of our combined CNI & Waikato run. Two prospective members joined us on the day and both have signed new membership with CNI. Welcome Craig & Cory. Sean & Fiona Dowling with their three daughters have recently transferred from Wellington and were the sole representatives from Waikato. Making up the numbers were Les & Helen, Craig's mum, Tricia, along with James & Vicky on their first run. For my first run I wanted to surprise members with a place that few people had heard about. Ross Bros Muscle Car Garage is a private collection owned by four brothers. The collection is located at the business premises of C&R Developments, a family owned business, specialising in civil earthworks, bulk earthmoving, mining and quarry work. When we arrived we were greeted by two of the brothers, Mike and Tim. Tim gave a brief history on the collection, explaining a few of the cars were on loan but most belonged to family members. Then we were left to explore. As you walk through the door you are struck by the opulence, sparkling chrome & sheer grandeur of the collection. This is motoring heaven. The collection isn't based on one make, included are many Fords, a Phase 3 GTHO, Mustangs, AC Cobra, Escort to name a few but there are also Corvettes, Torana, Aston Martin, an American Police car with shotguns fitted and even a Mini. ('67 Cooper S) We can but Dream... NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 14

There is also a small collection of motorbikes tucked away in the corner. The front of the building hosts a 50's milk bar theme with a jukebox, seating and pool table all authentic to the time. On the counter sits a Raymond Mays head and manifold. Dreaming again or is it drooling... The walls are lined with brochures, pictures and memorabilia is everywhere. NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 15

Leaving the glitz and glamour behind and within a few steps you walk into another world. The entrance being the centre of a large loader bucket. Here the sparkle of chrome is transformed into the patina of dust. Most of the vehicles are in original condition and many are family owned from times gone by. An early working garage is set up in the corner even with a mechanic working beneath. Around every turn is something different, tractors, fire engines, tools, chainsaws, petrol bowsers, large and small trucks, Chevrolet cars and bulldozers. Standing tall and at centre stage is the "Neighbourhood Bully", a Super Dozer weighing in at 175 tons. Its impressive Komatsu 12v 170, 12 cylinder, direct injected, twin turbo, intercooled engine, producing 1350hp. One of 42 made and replacement cost is $5,500,000. Image that horsepower in a Ford... NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 16

Even outside there are relics of a past life. 25 feet in the air is a Kenworth truck exploding through the building, a couple of trucks vegetating and the world's biggest motor scraper along with many more up and coming projects. In summary, a wonderful display and collection of old and new, big and small, glitter and glamour to diverse and beguiling. At the conclusion of the visit, Sean and family left for home while the rest of us drove a few back roads, over the Karapiro Dam, past the mighty Toatoaroa Quarry and headed to the Okoroire Pub for lunch. 18 Hawkes Bay Branch Runs Xmas Run Early December HB Branch held its Xmas run joined by new HB member Rick and 2 Auckland Members. Leaving from Darren and Nish's place in a convoy of 11 cars we headed our for a scenic drive to Abbey Cellars Winery.Once all parked up our line up was enjoyed by many of their other customers who had mostly arrived there on push bikes. We enjoyed a light snack there while sitting out doors listening to the live music they have on during weekends. We were eventually joined here by 2 car loads from the Eastlands Branch. NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 18

From the winery we were taken on another good cruise through the city and then over towards the port to do a tour of the old Napier Prison been New Zealand's oldest Prison. Opening in 1862 and closing its doors in Armed with our personal head sets we all made off on our way doing the tour at our own speed. I think all of us that did the tour felt some emotions as we wandered the grounds and walked into cells that have held hundreds of different people over the years for different types of crime. I know myself I often found myself wondering which cells my Brother and Uncle had been in during their stays at the Prison lol... Some of our younger ones had a ball playing dress ups in the outfits provided by the prison.after a good hour or 2 touring the prison we then moved onto our next cruise out to the Puketapu Bar (those that attended the HB AGM would remember this place from Sunday Lunch ) for a nice relaxing dinner ending a good enjoyable fun day. Thankyou to Darren and Nish for organising a good run and thankyou to the Gizzy members that came down and our 2 Auckland members for joining us for our xmas run :).Hopefully you will join us lot on other runs we have planned over the coming NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 19

Ford slammed for unsafe ad Four wheels leave the ground and Ad Standards hits the roof AUSTRALIA S advertising watchdog has reacted to Ford s new television ad for its Ranger Raptor ute with a ban because it shows reckless driving techniques and would constitute unsafe driving. The TVC was created by Ford s Australian agency GTB, a division of British- listed advertising giant WPP. WPP recently lost the Ford account for the first time in 75 years, ending one of the longest advertising relationships in history. Similarly as distressing was the end of the Ranger Raptor ad for Australian audiences. The banning follows the similar fate for Volkswagen Amarok s Too powerful for TV ad that was banned despite using computer-generated imagery. Ad Standards said the Ford ad was pulled because of an unspecified number of complaints about its focus on speed, acceleration, engine sounds and one scene showing off the Ute's new suspension that shows all four wheels off the ground. It agreed that the ad was filmed on private land, used a professional driver, did not show any other person or vehicle, was conducted with full safety concerns addressed and that the vehicle never exceeded 80km/h. The Ranger Raptor is depicted driving off-road for the duration of the Ranger Raptor TVC, Ford said in response to the Ad Standards report. Due to the loose nature of the surfaces it travels over, at times some terrain can be seen being displaced by the Ranger Raptor s off-road tyres. Ford feels this is indicative of the off-road surface rather than any sort of dangerous driving (such as burnouts), and adds that this was a private testing facility with all driving approved by the owner of the land. Despite Ford s response, Ad Standards said the disclaimer used by the advertiser only appeared on screen for six seconds and there is no way viewers would know the ad was filmed in a testing area. The speed that the vehicle is seen travelling down the dirt road, dramatised by the sound of the engine and filming techniques, appeared reckless, Ad Standards said. The panel considered the speed of the vehicle appeared unsafe when the vehicle became airborne. Ad Standards used the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) Voluntary Code of Practice for Motor Vehicle Advertising as a guideline to its decision. Ford said it had suspended all media for the campaign and that it was committed to creating a Ranger Raptor TVC that complies with the FCAI Code while continuing to demonstrate the capability of our off-road performance flagship. 24 Where Eagles Might Dare, but Falcon s do not. Its always nice to find new friendships when you join a club, and sometimes a further common interest is discovered. Such is the case here when 2, then 3 and now 4 members found that as well as cruising highways in our Falcon s, we also all owned 4WD vehicles and enjoyed taking to the back roads. So, although not an official event in any way, four club members spent Wellington Anniversary Weekend together in Taranaki, enjoying each others company, and exploring rough dusty roads and tunnels. Grant & Tracy (Toyota Surf), Geoff & Debbie (Nissan Pathfinder), Les & Helen (Toyota Surf) and Nigel & Donna (Nissan Navara) met in New Plymouth on Saturday evening and visited the Light Festival before heading to the hills on Sunday. A great day out covered several roads, one of which was the under threat of closure Kiwi Rd, and included a lunch at the former Okoki School. The following day Les & Helen had to start back to Tauranga, leaving the other three to follow back roads from Waitara to Whangamomana where lunch was enjoyed, before the drive back to Wellington. If any other members also own a suitable vehicle and don t mind it getting dirty or scratched, you are most welcome to join us on further adventures. For this a Ford is not required, and the Falcon is not recommended. Get in touch and we will you include in any upcoming plans. NZFPVTOC TICK BITS 24
