11 RESULTS OF THE 6-MONTH USER SURVEY Impacts on Travel Behavior Shifts from Uber/Lyft: More likely to be years old; similar across incomes and genders Shifts from Drive Alone: Middle Age groups (30-60 & 70+) middle to upper household incomes Shifts from Rides with Friend/Family: Ages or 60+, household income under $35,000 40% Respondents said they drive alone less because of Via Rideshare 28% slightly decreased, 12% greatly decreased Depending on Via for a ride Ages or 70+ (possible latent demand) 20% said they would have taken a bus. More likely to be Younger (ages 13-17, 20-29) or older 70+, Female, and household income under $35,000/year

13 POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO BUS RIDERSHIP? Is Via Impacting Ridership on Yolobus? Preliminary YCTD Data (May Nov 2017 vs 2018) Drops in Ridership on Route 35 and Route 41 Direct Impacts from Via unclear JUMP Bikes launched same week as Via Rideshare Uber/Lyft continue to gain popularity Cheap gas and VMT is up nationally Minor impacts on ridership from CAMP Fire Next Steps: Awaiting additional data from YCTD to compare with member jurisdictions Davis for comparison due to presence of JUMP bikes Upcoming Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) coordination Free transfer promotion & opportunities with Downtown Shuttle Survey Responses Out of 276 respondents that indicated that riding the bus applied to them, 41% of respondents said their use of the bus has slightly decreased (16% or 44 respondents) or greatly decreased (25% or 70 respondents). 12% of respondents (31 respondents) said their bus use has slightly increased (6%) or greatly increased (6%) as a result of the rideshare service. 50% said they haven t changed their bus use at all.

14 RESULTS OF THE 6-MONTH USER SURVEY Impacts on Quality of Life Positive Outcomes, especially for Youth (under 21), Senior (60+), Lower Income & Women 66% feel safer getting around town 59% have a greater sense of independence 41% report better access to healthy foods and medical care >50% say they are visiting local businesses or participating in social activities more often Monthly transportation expenses are less, especially for riders in their 20 s or 60+ Riders said their transportation expenses went up

18 USE CASE #1 HIGH SCHOOL COMMUTER Meet Joseph, Age 17 Joseph uses Via Rideshare to Commute to and from River City High School Connect to his afterschool job at Raley s To go to the park to play soccer with friends Because of Via Rideshare, Joseph is More independent, because he can get around without depending on his parents Safer because he has an alternative to biking or taking the bus late at night Spending more on transportation because for the first time, he has a convenient option that let s minor ride alone

19 USE CASE #2: ELDER POST-MILLENIALS Brandi uses Via Rideshare to Commute to and from Los Rios Community College Connect to JUMP Bikes so she can ride to her 2 jobs in Downtown Shop for groceries at Nugget Market and home goods IKEA Meet friends at Capitol Bowl on the weekends Because of Via Rideshare, Arlene is Feeling safer getting around town since she can wait inside until her Via van is nearby Saving money on her transportation expenses because she is using Uber less often, which is important to her because her budget is tight Riding the bus less often, because rideshare gets her there faster Meet Brandi, age 23

20 USE CASE #3: MILLENNIALS Meet Arlene, Age 36 Arlene uses Via Rideshare to Occasionally commute to work at Bayer Crop Sciences Get home from Kick n Mule after a Happy Hour with co-workers Avoid searching for parking when she goes to dinner at La Crosta Because of Via Rideshare, Arlene is Riding JUMP bikes and walking a little bit more often Driving alone a little less for social outings and some work trips Taking Lyft less for local trips, because Via is cheaper Feeling safer getting around town, especially at night

21 USE CASE #4 ACTIVE PARENTS Mateo uses Via Rideshare to Get home after taking his car to the shop Meet friends at the VFW Post Meet his girlfriend for dinner at Suki Sushi To pick up his 14 year old daughter Casey from Karate practice when he has to stay at work late Because of Via Rideshare, Mateo is Taking Via instead of driving for many of his local social outings Using Uber less for visits to local bars and restaurants Feeling more satisfied with the City s transportation service Via gives him an option that can also help transport his daughter Meet Mateo, Age 49

22 USE CASE #5 ACTIVE ADULTS WITH FAMILY Meet Katarina, Age 54 Katarina uses Via Rideshare to Give her elderly mom rides to medical appointments Meet friends for a weekly brunch at Cornerstone Café Have a night out on the town at Drake s with her family Because of Via Rideshare, Katarina is Driving less to transport her family members and to meet up with friends locally Saving monthly expenses because she is spending less on fuel and ride-hailing services for her mom Feeling like her mom is safer since Via provides her with door-to-door service to her appointments

23 USE CASE #6 ACTIVE AGING Sam & Hari use Via Rideshare for Trips to Raley s for Groceries and prescriptions Going to Dentist appointments Visiting their grandkids who live on the other side of town Meeting friends for breakfast at Carol s Because of Via Rideshare, Sam & Hari are Saving money on transportation, which is important to them since shifting to a fixed income Driving less, since Hari s vision has gotten worse and is now more willing to give up the car Meet Sam & Hari, Ages 64 and 66

24 USE CASE #7 INDEPENDENT SENIORS Meet Charles, Age 74 Charles uses Via Rideshare to Go to Grocery Outlet, Walmart and the Post Office Fill prescriptions at Walgreens and go to the Doctor s Office Pick his grandkids up from Stonegate Elementary to babysit until their parents get off work Meet his volunteer group at the local library Because of Via Rideshare, Charles is Feeling more independent, as he doesn t need rides from friends or family as often Participating in social activities more often and feeling more engaged in his community Has better access to healthy foods and medical care Saving money on transportation which makes living on a fixed income a little easier

25 USE CASE #8 Esther uses Via Rideshare to Go to the Community Center for exercise class and to meet friends at Knit & Crochet club Meet the book club she just joined at La Bou for coffee Take trips to Nugget Market where she gets the vitamins and supplements she prefers Go shopping at Walmart, sometimes with friends Because of Via Rideshare, Carol is Feeling more independent after recently losing her husband Phil, who did most of the driving Participating in more social activities, and feeling more connected to her community when she gets to chat with her favorite Via driver, Preach Feeling safer because she doesn t have to worry about falling on her walk to the bus stop because Via provides her with door-to-door service Meet Esther, Age 87
