This audit process is used for all accommodation, excursions and transport providers. Financial Security - As part of the world s largest leisure company, TUI Travel PLC, Travelbound provides financial protection to all school groups and further, we are fully ATOL bonded. Worldwide offices, global reach UK, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Middle East and USA Responsible travel It is our responsibility as an educational tour operator to consider the environment, economy and culture of our destinations as of paramount importance, and our very own eco-tourism specialist is dedicated to help reduce our impact. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT This tour is a mini-project, and to give this project the best chance of success: 1. Take 10-minutes to review this itinerary and let us know of any amendments (or ideas!) to improve it. 2. Confirm an Itinerary and provisional Departure Date to allow the opportunity for Travelbound to create a customized quote that fits your school criteria. 3. Money matters so build in a buffer between the amount per student and your final number (Use this to buy additional meals, pay for public transport or shout the students a special treat in-country!). 4. Raise interest with students and families allowing maximum time for families to get on board. 5. Confirm your booking: Contact us to confirm student interest with completed booking forms and provisional deposits to lock in your quoted amount. 6. Coordinate the tour: Your tour coordinator will be your main point of contact to discuss the finer details of your trip. They will forward a confirmation pack and book all the components of your tour ensuring a trip of a lifetime.
ITINERARY- Europe (World War 1 and World War 2) Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Lunch AUCKLAND PARIS Depart Auckland for Paris Overnight Travelling PARIS Arrive in Paris Meet and greet at Paris airport Meet coach and transfer to Paris hotel Bateaux Mouches: This is a great way to view the sites of Paris from a different perspective. The glass covered decks make it possible to see the Eiffel tower, Notre dame and the Louvre while you cruise along the River Seine in comfort. at the Hotel Overnight Paris PARIS CHATEAU DU MOLAY (Normandy) at Hotel Eiffel Tower (not included in tour price, to be paid on arrival): This huge iron monument is named after its architect Gustave Eiffel and has become an icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. This is a must do for first time visitors to Paris. Coach transfer to the Chateau Chateau Du Molay: Travelbounds very own 18 th century French Chateau set within 38 acres of private parkland, offers students the opportunity to be a part of educational activities, and language learning classes. Tonight they can be a part of a French Cinema night and enjoy some free time swimming or playing sports in the recreational areas. Traditional French Cuisine: Students can participate in a crepe and apple cider night run by the Chateau Chef. Overnight Chateau Du Molay CHATEAU DU MOLAY (Normandy) at Chateau and pick up packed lunch Memorial de Caen Museum- Students discover major events of the 20th century, from the end of World War I to the fall of the Berlin Wall via exhibits in this large museum dedicated to peace. The Memorial is a rich teaching aid to help students study our shared past and introduces emotion and memory, using dynamic and diverse educational activities. Pegasus Bridge and Museum- Pegasus Bridge was captured by British forces on the night of 5-6 June 1944 in order to protect the eastern flank of the landing operations at Sword Beach. At the Pegasus Bridge Museum, students can learn about the events of its capture and the forces that carried it out via displays of historic items such as weapons and gliders, documents and photographs. at the Chateau Overnight Chateau Du Molay
Day 5 Lunch Day 6 Lunch Day 7 CHATEAU DU MOLAY (Normandy) at Chateau and pick up packed lunch Omaha Beach, US Cemetery: The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial covers acres and contains the graves of 9,387 military dead, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings and ensuing operations. The memorial, set around a bronze statue, shows maps and narratives of the military operations. Centre staff are available to answer students questions. Arromanches 360 degree cinema-the new Arromanches 360 film cofinanced by the Region Basse-Normandie and the Memorial de Caen was produced by the authors of the hugely successful French television series, Apocalypse. This film is projected in High Definition on 9 screens and tells the story of the terrible Battle of Normandy thanks to archive images gathered from around the world. This film is a tribute to soldiers from all countries and to the 20,000 civilians who were killed during this battle for the liberation of Europe, a battle which gave rise to so much hope. D-Day Museum, Arromanches- In the heart of the D-Day beaches, Arromanches is renowned for its Mulberry artificial Harbour. Its remains speak of the remarkable technical feat of taking 600,000 tonnes of concrete and equipment across the Channel in wartime to serve as a base for Allied troops. The museum uses models, videos and a diorama that movingly bring life to the displays. Traditional French Cuisine: On the list of things to do in France, trying frogs legs and snails is near the top. After a long day the students and staff can opt for traditional frogs legs and snails as an accompaniment to an evening meal. This allows the adventurous students a chance to taste a traditional French delicacy. Overnight Chateau Du Molay CHATEAU DU MOLAY SOMME at Chateau and pick up packed lunch Coach Transfer to Somme accommodation Beaumont Hamel- The village was one of the fortress holds situated behind the German lines on the first of July The attack by the Newfoundland Regiment on this day is commemorated in the Newfoundland Park along with preserved trenches and a striking Caribou memorial, the regiment s emblem. After leaving their trenches the regiment was trapped by German machine gun fire. There were only 68 survivors making this one of the bloodiest battles of The Somme. Ulster Tower- This is a Somme battlefield memorial to the men of the 36th Division who suffered horrendous losses on the first of July The Ulster Tower is a replica of St Helen s Tower, which sits in the grounds of the Clandeboye Estate in Northern Ireland where much of the division trained. Overnight Somme SOMME YPRES at Hotel Wellington Quarry-Arras- This underground museum is an affecting commemoration to the thousands of British Army and Dominion Forces soldiers who survived under Arras during the war. Students can go 20m down into the network of World War I tunnels that connect to tunnels and quarries of the middle ages. Guided tours include a descent in a glass lift that reveals the fascinating rock strata. Coach Transfer to Ypres
Tyne Cot Military Cemetery- This is the largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world with around 11,954 soldiers resting here. The British Army captured the ridge where it is set in 1917, with a German blockhouse turned into an Advanced Dressing Station thus necessitating the burial ground. Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 Overnight Ypres YPRES at Hotel In Flanders Fields Museum- This outstanding museum aims to preserve our connection with World War I through character-led experience and the story of the land. Exhibitions blend interactive installations with relics allowing students to explore history on a peer-related level. A permanent exhibit traces the invasion of Belgium with educational programs to delve deeper into the war past. Yorkshire Trench and Dugout- This British trench wasn t discovered until 1992 by a group of archaeologists who went on to excavate tunneled dugouts and soldier remains. One of the few sites with original trenches on the Ypres Salient, the location exhibits very narrow networks with recreated fire steps and loopholes. Students can get a real sense of the space the soldiers occupied. Menin Gate and The Last Post Ceremony-This moving tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who fell defending their town is an imperative experience for students connecting with WWI. Each night at 8pm the traffic stops around the Menin Gate memorial six buglers from the fire brigade play the Last Post, Reveille and silence is upheld Overnight Ypres YPRES AMSTERDAM at Hotel before Coach transfer to Amsterdam Arrive at Hotel to check in/drop bags Anne Frank House- The building where Anne Frank hid from Nazi persecution sits on the Prinsengracht canal. As well as the preservation of the hiding place and an exhibition on the life and times of Anne Frank, the museum acts as an exhibition space to highlight all forms of persecution and discrimination. Canal Cruise- A cruise through Amsterdam s canals is a pretty and peaceful way to see some of the city's most beautiful spots. Gliding through the old centre, the view encompasses elegant merchants mansions, carilloncrowned churches and warehouses with their rich history from Holland's Golden Age. Overnight Amsterdam AMSTERDAM--BERLIN at Hotel before coach transfer to Berlin Arrive at Hotel to check in City walking tour- Explore Berlin's rich culture and history on foot by taking a walking tour. The must see sights are the Brandenburg Gate (a former city gate, rebuilt in the late 18th century as a neoclassical triumphal arch), the Reichstag, Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe and Unter den Linden - the most well-known and grandest street in Berlin. Overnight Berlin
Day 11 Day 12 Day 13 BERLIN at Hotel East Side Gallery- East Berliners breached the Wall on 9 November 1989, and between February and June of 1990, 118 artists created unique works of art on its longest-remaining section. This open-air gallery serves as a memorial for freedom. One of the best-known works, by Russian artist Dmitri Vrubel, depicts Brezhnev and Honnecker (the former East German leader) kissing. Checkpoint Charlie Museum- Checkpoint Charlie, the most well-known of the border crossings between East and West, is now one of Berlin s most popular tourist attractions. At the Checkpoint Charlie Museum unique artefacts including many of the contraptions used by those who tried to cross illegally, and works inspired by the division, will vividly bring the past to life for your students. Black Box- Documenting the history of Berlin s most famous border crossing, the Black Box at Checkpoint Charlie also highlights the symbolic significance of the Wall in the division between Germany and the rest of Europe. Through the use of photographs and media stations, students will be able to interpret events, emotions and public reaction to life inside East Germany. The Holocaust Memorial- Located in the heart of Berlin, this memorial serves as a reminder of the many lives lost during the Holocaust. 2,711 concrete pillars make up the memorial with underground information centres providing students with an insight into this horrific event as well as listing the names of all known Jewish Holocaust victims. Overnight Berlin BERLIN at Hotel Hohenschönhausen Memorial Centre (Stasi prison museum) - Between 1951 and 1989 the Stasi secret police used this site as a detention centre for un-sentenced suspects. Holding mainly political prisoners, it was infamous for its regime of physical and psychological torture meted out to inmates. It is now a memorial museum with rooms, surveillance technology and interiors as they were before the fall of Communism. Olympic Stadium- A guide will tell your group all about the German architectural and sports history of the Olympia stadium, built for the 1936 Summer Olympics, and Olympia Park. Enjoy the view from the top of the Glockenturn bell tower and browse the exhibition at the Langemarckhall. Free Afternoon/Evening Coach transfer back to Hotel Overnight Berlin BERLIN KRAKOW at Hotel Coach Transfer to Airport Depart on flight to Krakow Arrive in Krakow Transfer to Hotel for Check in Overnight Krakow
Day 14 Day 15 Day 16 Day 17 KRAKOW at Hotel Kazimierz Jewish Quarter- This historic district of Krakow was home to a large Jewish community from the 14th century until World War II when its Jewish inhabitants were relocated by force to other parts of Poland and in 1941 many thousands were sent to the Krakow Ghetto in Podgórze. The synagogues of Kazimierz that were damaged during World War II have since been restored and the Galicia Jewish museum provides students with some context. Stephen Spielberg used Kazimierz as the backdrop to his 1993 film Schindler s List and it is now one of the major tourist attractions of Krakow and a cultural centre. Schindler's Factory- Visit the factory where Oscar Schindler employed hundreds of Jewish people to protect them during the Holocaust. Krakow's past has been recreated here in an evocative way, presenting the tragedy of World War II as well as everyday life of the city. Exhibits include a recreated hairdresser's salon, stereoscopic studio and typical basement apartment. Overnight Krakow KRAKOW at Hotel Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp- A visit to the largest Nazi concentration camp of World War II is a chilling and truly memorable experience. More than 1.1 million men, women, and children lost their lives here. Much of the camp remains as a memorial and museum. Guided walking tour of Krakow old Town- A half day guides tour of Krakow old town will give an overview of Krakow s rich history and included the largest medieval market square in Europe and the renaissance Cloth Hall. You will then see the unique carves wooden altar of St Mary s Church. Then onto Wawel cathedral with the Royal Tombs and Sigismond s bell. This tour is available with or without entrance fees for St Mary s Church, the Royal Tombs and Sigismond s bell. Folklore Show- at Michalik's Cave, once a favorite bohemian hangout among Krakow s creative crowd, start with a folk music concert and dance show followed by a traditional Polish dinner.
