1 MEDIA RELEASE Immediate 25 th October 2012 RESTAURANT & CATERING ANNOUNCES BEST OF THE BEST FROM ACROSS THE NATION ON MONDAY The Restaurant & Catering Industry is eagerly awaiting the announcement of the National Winners of the HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence Program. Next Monday 29 th October businesses from across Australia will come together for the industry night of nights to celebrate and acknowledge these great businesses at the National Awards Finale event that is being held at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. More than 211 restaurants and 68 catering businesses have become National Finalists after the 6 month program has toured the country to establish the best of the best in the delivery of excellence in food and service within each category. The Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Program is the most dependable and authoritative guide to Australia s best restaurants and caterers. With more than 500 trained judges and 1500 entrants, the Awards for Excellence set the national benchmark. They are the most important and respected industry awards, specifically designed to objectively recognise and promote industry best practice. This is the 15th year the Awards for Excellence program has run 9 events across the country recognising over 1400 businesses from 14 metropolitan and regional areas to announce the finalists and winners and celebrate the outstanding achievements of restaurants and caterers in this vibrant and hardworking industry. The Awards for Excellence are judged by a team of trained judges under the RACES Evaluation System who anonymously visit and dine at each of the venues to determine the winners. The Restaurant and Catering Evaluation System (RACES) consists of two divisions with 66 criteria in the Fine Dining division and 55 criteria in the Informal and Casual Dining division. Each venue is critiqued on each criteria to establish a score for the program that sets a national benchmark and standards for businesses to be successful in the program. The overall weighted total is used to compare establishments and determine winners. Winners are named across over 35 awards categories including the Consumer Vote Award, Restaurant of the Year and Caterer of the Year in state by region and then overall as National Winner.

From the scores received in the Awards program businesses receive a Savour Australia Plate Rating which is illustrated by plate icons one (1) to five (5) out of a possible five, mathematically derived from their scores. Every finalist in the program that receives a plate rating also receives Tourism Australia's T-QUAL accreditation. Both of these are also key tools to show the great standard of these well deserving businesses and both these are a valuable endorsement that helps consumers make more informed choices when selecting tourism products and creates a competitive point of difference for businesses.
