1 CV of Dr Sue Pillans Profile I am a marine ecologist, artist, writer and graphic recorder with over 15 years experience working in research and development, natural resource management, conservation planning and program management. Over an eight-year period I worked for the Queensland Government and have experience in Marine Park planning and management, natural resource management, industry development, regional economic development, skills and workforce development, strategy and business planning, stakeholder engagement, Government policy development and public sector management and leadership. Through the various Program Manager roles I have held at Universities and Research organisations I also have experience in managing research programs across multiple sectors at the local, National and International levels. Since 2015 I have run my own Brisbanebased business where I Picture your ideas. I utilise my strategic, policy and research background with my creative skills as an artist to help people, teams and organisations to see the big picture, through visual storytelling. As a graphic recorder I work with a wide range of stakeholders to visually capture and convey ideas, key messages and discussions. I also work in schools and with educators as my alter ego, Dr Suzie Starfish, bringing the art of marine science and storytelling into classrooms using visual and creative marine science. As Dr Suzie Starfish I am also writing and illustrating a series of kids picture books about the wonders of the underwater world, bringing our Living Oceans indoors, into classrooms and into the hearts and minds of readers. I find such joy in helping people to picture their ideas as Henri Matisse says Drawing is putting a line around an idea.
